  1. It is true that PCI-E isn't all that impressive for graphics implementations (yet) as AGP 8x seems to be fast enough to not be a bottle neck. However, gigabit ethernet seems to be an interesting implementation of this new interface. The full theoretical bandwidth of a gig connection should all but fill up a regular PCI bus, dragging anything else that is shareing the bandwidth to a crawl.
  2. It is to those who are stuck on dialup/direcway!
  3. Peeps: Who is your ISP? Is you advertised speed as high as your original upload!?
  4. Also, if you wish to just browse the shares on a remote computer do: ipaddress in the run dialogue box, or an explorer address bar.
  5. Did you not look at the doubled upload speed?!?
  6. There is deffinitely room for improvement in the upload, but I agree that the download is to a point where you don't want to mess with it
  7. Have you tweaked? Look at VanBuren's tweak guide in the make it faster forum. Pretty nice. I wish I could get those speeds.
  8. Is that just between the two offices? Or is it a 10mbps WAN connection which runs VPN? If it's just between the two offices, then you most likely will not have 10mbps to the net.
  9. Strange. I've got a friend who I know has a 490 MB file in his gmail account...
  10. Not to discredit RTB but: http://gmail.google.com/gmail/help/more.html#privacy Or more specifically: Privacy is compromised, however, if personal information or private email content is shared with parties other than the sender and intended recipients without their consent. This is not the case when people use Gmail. Google does not share or reveal email content or personal information with third parties. Email messages remain strictly between the sender and intended recipients, even when only one of the parties is a Gmail user.
  11. Good luck building a system like that with any kind of a budget in mind. Also, most of today's OSs really don't support multiple processors that well, that is unless of course you are running multiple resource demanding programs. Then assign one program to a proc and another program to another proc. Just wait until 1st half 2005. The Athlon 64 FX with be Dual Core. That means that a stock Athlon 64 FX will basically be two procs. Get a 4x mobo, and you will have the processing power of 8 procs Not to mention, 64 bit.
  12. Better than what I've got at home. Nice speeds, but have you tweaked at all? Are you within 90% of your advertised cap?
  13. I had a site (back when I didn't have a credit card, and couldn't pay for anything) on a free host. I remember that it was the best thing back then, because it not only had 100 MBs, but it didn't have file size limits. I have looked near and far for that site again. It probably has gone down by now...
  14. I've got 12 invites to give out... RTB, where do you see that it becomes public property?
  15. 60 seconds for a meg. That works out to somewhere around 17 KB/s. Post real results next time, and if you are going to leave out the verify link, at least change all of the speed numbers appropriately.
  16. The average speed if you are thinking theoretically is indeed some where around 25 mbps. Usually the average cable user obtains some where between 2000-6000. This depends on your plan. The rule of thumb is to be within 90% of what you are paying for. I would check out VanBuren's tweak topic in "Make it faster" to see if you can make it faster
  17. Your current sig=11 seconds on dial up, and the new one=17 Your posts are not dial up friendly. Then again, how many dial up users actually want to test their speed?
  18. CA3LE, are you going to test that link that I gave you to test from my server in a PM?
  19. Christopher Reeves died. This really sucks. He and his family was working dilligently on the cause of improving the life of those who are paralyzed through medical research. I just heard it on the radio, and had to check it out. http://www.chrisreevehomepage.com/news.html
  20. You can't pull more than 100,000 kbps from this server. That must be a fake/mistake score.
  21. Am I mistaken, or is ASP pretty much just a Microsoft thing? I'm sure that since Apache is open source, there is something ASP out there. Probably a directive that is already built in, knowing the versatility of Apache. Read your httpd.conf file "if you have a stock install on winblows: c:program filesapacheapache (version #)confhttpd.conf I believe. Good luck.
  22. I used to use it quite frequently when talking to a friend in Tucson. It was better quality than the phone. That company worked out some nice codecs for voice. Problem is, right now it's in beta and it's free. I have no problems with the program being in beta, but I wonder if it will be free after V.1?
  23. With Direcway, you really have to tweak: http://www.dslreports.com/faq/satellite (Only tweak if you have the DW4000, the DW6000 is not effectively tweakable.) Hopefull with a little luck your download speed will increase to about where mine is. (1500-3000 kbps depending on the time of day, and sometimes up to 6000 kbps.) Don't expect your upload speed to increase at all. How are you set up? A single computer? Multiple networked? DW6000 or 4000? OS, specs of all machines? Post back with this info, and I'll try to help more.
  24. lol, every one is so jealous of his speeds, that they don't want to help him. Look at VanBuren's tweaks in the "Make it faster" forum. Follow the advanced directions, and post back.
