  1. I am pretty sure that protman.dos is actually one of the driver files. Possibly that release of drivers is bad? If it is in fact something that should come off of the Windows 98 cd, then it would be in *:Win98*.cab. Just use the search function in Windows and make sure it is set to search cab files.
  2. VanBuren, since you have a kick ass connection, and sorta a wimpy computer, you should start a list of all of those that have more processing power than you
  3. Wait for Longhorn? Why wait for another expensive MS product when you can use a free OS right now? I use linux on a regular basis at home. My main system is windows, bu thtat's just because some of the programs that I use don't run under WINE.
  4. How fast do radio signals travel through air? If they can get a signal all the way around the world in 380 ms, why can't I get one from my house, to space, to the NOC in maryland in less than 1000 with Direcway!?
  5. Also in doing that, you tend to get an innacurate ping rate, as you also have to factor in other people's connections, which are usually residential for small game servers.
  6. Try to access it with annoymizer or some other proxy. Make sure you have permission for it, as this is a fireable offense in some companies (circumventing company blocking that is)
  7. Shanee, your speeds down really, really don't matter. You are advertising your personal connection on a very busy site. You will be hammered, and possibly attacked by those that don't like you (yes, DDOS), and then Verizon will shut you down. Get a business class connection. There is no sense even giving out your "web site" if you can't upload any faster than a single mbps!
  8. Try the FC3 DVD i386 ISO. I know that many people are downloading that all the time, since it's new. http://torrent.linux.duke.edu/
  9. You could start a peer to peer type thing. I'm sure everyone that is on the forums here could get together an create at least 50mbps of upload bandwidth. I can kick in 20kbps! I love my Direcway conn! (yes, kilobits, not bytes)
  10. ww1.testmy.net, ww2.testmy.net... ww160.testmy.net lol CA3LE, you're screwed for hosting with that rate of growth
  11. I don't get any with Direcway I wouldn't want it any way. Most ISP's hosting is too slow.
  12. So try again!? CA3LE just told you not to post stuff like this. You should be editing your posts to remove the links! Not telling people to try it again! Your line is residential, you will eventually get in trouble for hosting servers. Also, there is no way that any one can reliably test the speed of their connections to your server. It is likely that the upload test result will be accurate for most, as you will have a large download cap, but your upload cap is much lower than most people's download caps. If I were you, and I had been threatened with an IP-ban, I would be removing links right now...
  13. Just don't change your avatar, or we will all be confuzled.
  14. http://download.visualware.com/ -- You have to run the test on a real server to get any where near accurate results. This is not accurate however: This is hosted on a 100/100 mbps server. I am using a connection here, to test the applet, which I have tested much faster on testmy.net with and download much faster with, than what that test shows. The path on my server is grayed out, because I don't want to disrespect CA3LE.

  16. Look at this: https://testmy.net/forumz/viewtopic.php?t=605
  17. Yes, I know. But would the directional antenna on my end alone be powerful enough to get to two miles away through some trees? Or would both ends need one lined up to each other to get enough signal strength?
  18. I use bittorrent for everything. I would rather use other's unused upload bandwidth, than take more bandwidth from over worked mirrors. I have 6881-6999 port forwarded to the machine that I use bittorrent on. The ports are used as one per machine that is downloading from you. I usually only have 20-30 machines downloading from me, but I leave this broad port range opened any ways. It is possible that your ISP blocks these out going ports. Some do due to excessive use of bittorrent uploads. If your outgoing ports are blocked, the main seeder machine will see that you are not uploading at all, and there fore you will get very little download bandwidth. This is because the whole idea is built around the sharing of bandwidth. What client are you using? Also, are you using Windows or Linux?
  19. It would be sweet if you could find it! When you say it's directional; does the person on the other end also have to have a directional antena? If this actually works out, I would just put one of those wireless bridges in and put the ethernet port to the WAN port on a router. That would be sweet!
  20. I think the wireless that you are looking into is not 802.11. I can't remember the exact standard, but I think it might be 802.16. This is used because it is better for a line of sight signal. The omi-directional antena that Swimmer posted may work, but I don't know. You can build an antenna with a pretty high gain with a Pringles can
  21. Can't you just manually select the text, right click, and select copy? Or does that not work also?
  22. I don't doubt that PCI-E is better than AGP from a raw bandwidth stand point. The thing is that most video cards rarely even use up the entire AGP 8x bus. There are other bottle necks in the way. Also, you say that PIC-E will replace Gigabit ethernet, firewire, usb2, etc. I don't agree. Those interfaces will still exist. They will just be in the form of PCI-E addon cards (or built into the mobo) rather than PCI cards. It just doen't make sense to use PCI-E (not hot-swappable) over USB2 (hot-swappable). I can see possibly some new specs coming out with more bandwidth now that they can use it (thanks to PCI-E). If I misunderstood what you said about PCI-E replacing all of those things, please ignore me as usual. I think that those that are in the market for new video cards at this time should probably research the card on its own merits rather than whether or not it has PCI-E. That is, unless of course, you want to upgrade your mobo at the same time. Then I would go with PCI-E for compatability's sake. Even if you get a video card that runs on PCI-E16, I'm sure it will run on PCI-E32 although it might not be as fast as the spiffy new PCI-E32 card.
  23. Don't you have to retain an ip address to keep the same computer ID on testmy? Do you have a static IP, barleywine?
  24. Nice speeds and welcome to the forum! Is this more than you get with a wget download or mozilla?
