try manual force your NIC duplex mode if you connect to a router, use 100 Mbps full duplex if you connect your pc direct to modem, use 10 Mbps half duplex quote from http://dslnuts.com/tips_tricks.shtml "Windows 2000 or XP: to change to half-duplex: * Open Control Panel. * Double-click Network and Dial-up Connections. * Identify the icon for your cable modem connection: usually Local Area Connection. * Right-click that icon and select Properties. * Under the ethernet adapter icon, click the button Configure. * Click the tab Advanced to bring it to the front: * In the Property box, the property name to be selected varies according to model of ethernet card. Examples are: Network Link Selection, Media Type, Connection Type, Duplex Mode, or any similarly-named property which can have Values looking like Auto-Negotiation, or 10BT, or 10BaseT. * In the Value box, select a value which either (a) explicitly says half-duplex or semi-duplex, or ( at least does not say full-duplex [e.g. 10BaseT on its own is OK]. If there is a choice between 10 and 100 with half-duplex, choose the 10. Do not choose 10Base5, 10Base2, or AUI. * Click OK to exit the Adapter settings. * Click OK to exit the Connection properties. determing the latency is very hard, there is no accurate way to get measure the correct latency value when you maxing out your connection, your ping will change alot, you need a average of around 100 pings to get a value start-run-cmd ping -n 100 xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx ( where xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx is your gateway IP) best thing is to test values, try 106 ms or 90 ms, and compare speed i suggest 250ms to start with and work up/down from that VanBuren

hey ToWhateverEnd the Version 3 is good, but i noticed some ppl got alot of retransmissions and slow browsing, so i reduced the TcpWindowSize and GlobalMaxTcpWindowsize. It helped some, but some ppl slowed down like you did. I try to find a file that works best overall, but its hard, so many things impact speed the best thing is to calculate the TcpWindowSize and GlobalMaxTcpWindowsize, but it take some time also test this ccs file generator http://j79zlr.com/cablenutXP2k.php It will build your file similar to Version 3 just change Synattack protect to 0 and use a latency value between 150-300ms VanBuren

5. Under your LAN connection - properties - general tab, uninstall all the protocols there that you do not need. 6. Open Internet Explorer and select tools - internet options - connections - LAN settings, make sure nothing there is checked. 7. Never Connect to modem via USB ! Always connect your modem via ethernet (NIC) and make sure you have the latest drivers for your NIC. Set your NIC duplex mode to 10mb half duplex for Cable, for DSL it depend on the ISP service unless you are using a router, if so then set it to 100mb full duplex for both Cable & DSL. If you are using a router make sure you have the latest firmware. 8. Power cycle your modem, unplug it for atleast 30 seconds. 9. Download and update then do a scan with SpyBot http://beam.to/spybotsd and Ad Aware http://www.lavasoft.com/support/download to remove any spyware 10. ZoneAlarm firewall has known problems with dropping speed, i suggest to uninstall it and compare speed 11. Install Outpost Firewall http://www.agnitum.com or Sygate Firewall http://www.sygate.com/ 12. Scan for viruses with your antivirus app, if you do not have one get one, AVG is great http://www.grisoft.com/us/us_dwnl_free.php 13. Make sure you have ALL of the latest Windows Updates 14. Download and run CCleaner http://www.ccleaner.com/ also install this SP2 fix https://www.speedguide.net/read_articles.php?id=1497 VanBuren

yes, that is packetloss Not much, you can try bypassing your router, sometimes those can cause packetloss 5,5 Mbps of 6 Mbps is 91% of advertised, its not great but acceptable remember Cable is shared so your speed probl, change during the day i suggest you run a linequality test, make sure to use router and allow ICMP traffic http://www.dslreports.com/linequality By the way .... dont assume no one wants to help, just beqause you had to wait for a reply..... this is not a service you pay for, ppl here have other things to do beside instant replying VanBuren
