Please help with Bulldog ADSL Download speed
VanBuren replied to Fudrake's topic in Make it Faster...
phone extensions wires can really mess up the signal and your modem will loose sync and give you packetloss. I suggest you plugging in the modem in the main phone socket and leave your router next to modem and from that you can wire your PC -
adsl is alot harder to tweak then cable, but i can see your very close to optimal settings now a good value to use for calculating is 150 to 300 ms for all connections, in my version 7 of my tweaks i choosed to set TcpWindowSize and GlobalMaxTcpwindowsize to 44 x MSS thats 64240 for a MTU of 1500. that seems to work very well. I dont know what version of my tweaks your using, but i suggest you test the OOL 10000 / 1000 file and only adjust DefaultReceiveWindow. As a tumb rule it should be 1024 x your cap in KB/s for you thats (12000 / 8 ) x 1024 = 1536000 thats a very large RWIN, and if you have packetloss your speed will be very inconsistant. when i had a 10 Mbps cap i was using 384000 and that was optimal for me, you can try that aswell. for determing the latency, look here http://thegamer.serveftp.com/FAQ.htm but its many times better just to test, the measurment of a latency is almost impossible. i think you need to call your ISP and let them check modem signals VanBuren

you probl need a cablenut tweak to fix that upload download the settings here http://www.testmy.net/forum/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=1013.0;attach=2784 and use this path VanBurens_cablenut_settings_version_7_ALL_WIN_OS_AND_SATCABLE_DSL_FIBER_DIAL-UPWinXP_2K_CABLE_DSLMSS1460 dubbleclick on the file thats close to your cap and after that click save to registry now reboot test speed again VanBuren -
not bad upload, what is the cap? well one diff is the MTU, for PPPoE the MTU is 1492 and for DHCP, PPPoA its usally 1500 your first hop ping is 8 to 10 ms thats acceptable, some dsl providers using a error correction that add approx 30 ms to your first hop. But your DSL provider dosent use that, they using Fastpath, atleast thats what its look like. So there is nothing more to do VanBuren
-
hey nguyenlol and welcome to the forum thats very nice score overseas, is that cable or DSL? VanBuren
-
DHCP stands for "Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol". your ping seems normal to me VanBuren
-
hey Sakura and welcome to the forum i think your maxed out, you need to add TCP overhead on that score and i know almost none DSL user go above cap. TCP overhaead is around 10% that makes your true speed 1295 x 1,1 = 1424,5 Kbps be happy thats 1424,5/1500 = 0,94966666666666666666666666666667 = 95% of your advertised speed hows the upload? that hop 5 probl block ICMP traffic VanBuren

i think you should have the guys at http://www.solwiseforum.co.uk/ looking at your router config. with that RWIN you should ba able to pull atleast 5 Mbps from the Swedish servers and maybe around 3.5 from the main servers. Since your cap is 8 Mbps your not even close now VanBuren -

sorry but i dont think i can help you setup that router, change back to 1500 as MTU in router and make a post in http://www.solwiseforum.co.uk/ why your MTU is off also open Dr.Tcp and set your TcpReceiveWindow to 64240 and click save and reboot come back and let us know what the problem was good luck VanBuren -

says your Max packet sent (MTU): 1492 Max packet recd (MTU): 1492 what are your current MTU in router? that looks like a MTU for PPPoE if your current MTU is above 1492 in router, try setting MTU to 1492 in router aswell and make a new tweaktest VanBuren -
no problem, good luck click here http://www.testmy.net/forum/index.php?action=pm;sa=send;u=1010 VanBuren

oh my bad i missed the part where you said your using a 33.6 k modem i dont think you will go any faster then this on that modem on this score 29 Kbps you need to add TCP overhead thats around 10% so your real speed is 29 x 1.1 = 31.9 Kbps the reason you sometimes score more eg on that adslguide can be that test is not 100% accurate like i said, you can PM "cholla" and see if he can bring up speed any more, but i daubt it will go any faster VanBuren

also make a new tweaktest with windows default settings open cablenut, click delete cablenut tweaks and click save to registry now download Dr.Tcp http://www.dslreports.com/front/DRTCP021.exe open it and make sure all MTU fileds is blanked out for all adapters ( you need to scroll if you have several ) should look like this, now click save and reboot your PC VanBuren -

hey Fudrake and welcome to the forum also test speed here http://www.testmy.net/o-mirror-VanBuren (use the 20MB test) and http://www.testmy.net/d_load.php?ta=1&top=VanBuren&pop=1&ni=1 (use the 20MB test) that router MTU dosent make sence, what MTU do you have with factory settings on that router? Do you have a manual for the router, perhaps there is a guide how to set it up for PPPoA with a MTU of 1500. Do you see any speed improvement when you force MTU on router to 1540? VanBuren -
try this cablenut file, just unzip it and click on it, then click save to registry and reboot VanBuren

hey ArcticWolf you can try these steps first http://www.testmy.net/forum/t-2097.0 i did a 56k tweakfile for cablenut, try it I havent tested it, if it dosent help PM the member "cholla" i know he has a good setup for 56k VanBuren

hey VictorS and welcome to the forum thats really sweet, right at the cap VanBuren
-
yea its great, but ive decided to go back to 10 Mbps. this is almost twice as expensive and im not hosting any servers due to my slow PC hehe But its been fun to test I think it will take a month or so before im back to 10 Mbps VanBuren
-
yea i have no problem hitting cap in Europe, but that 80-100 ms bump overseas slowing me down alot. The fastest ive gone is around 40 Mbps overseas. VanBuren

RTT max: 1801.9 ms RTT avg: 906.3 ms RTT stdev: 508.4 ms you need to call your ISP and let them check modem signals VanBuren

if you have a router, bypass it connect your PC direct to modem via ethernet also powercycle modem, leave it off for 30 full seconds make a new tweaktest this dosent look good RTT min: 77.6 ms RTT max: 1802.0 ms RTT avg: 906.7 ms VanBuren

still waiting for that ^^^^ VanBuren

CAP = The maximum bandwidth your connection has if your connection can handle 1 Mbps downstream then split it in 8 = 125 KB/s 125 x 1024 = 128000 VanBuren
