need help with speeding up lan transfer rates
VanBuren replied to Blunted's topic in Make it Faster...
I would have tested those drivers, you can always manual reinstall them but since it claim to be the latest its probl not going to get any better then this. It might also be a problem in the switch, if you have a TP cable, bypass that switch and connect the both PC -
hey raptors892004 Windows 98 dosent read NTFS and wont find the partitions, however windows XP read em both, so if you need to reinstall windows 98, you need to first convert a partition to FAT32 just put win XP cd in your cdrom, shut of the pc, start the pc up and hit "del" key so you can enter bios, in bios you should be able to change boot sequense, so instead of floppy beeing first boot device you set your cdrom to be it. Save changes and exit, now restart PC and you can start windows XP installer from cd. Just follow instructions and when you see a option where to put XP on the hardrive, choose to delete the partition that you like to convert to FAT 32, now you can see unallocated space there instead, click add partition and make it FAT32. When thats done, just exit or shut off the PC. Now you should be able to find that partition with win 98 OS installer and the command line program. remember when you installed win 98 you cant see the other partitions, so if you want to run both Win 98 and Win XP, then convert all partitions to FAT32 if you wnat to run dual boot, then make sure to install Win 98 first, then win XP installer will fix the boot VanBuren

cant figure out why having a speedtest if its not accurate that 2545 KB file should be accurate for a connection below 3 Mbps VanBuren
-
ok this is almost too large file, i tested another server and this is what file i got :haha: VanBuren
-
just to compare, this is the filesize my ISP using for 100 Mbps testing, imagine in the future when many ppl are on 100Mbps and do all this testing, that will be some traffic/month hehe VanBuren

this shows how important the filesize is when testing a connection id say the test should take around 8 seconds for it to be accurate ill attach a NDT test aswell to compare the oversea transfer VanBuren
-
oh that explains it, it was probl a issue in the ISP net that day when you tested my file and only scored 6 Mbps thanks for the feedback, i need it VanBuren
-
great, thats almost exactly the same settings as my OOL file did Priorityboost and TCPmax data retranmissions give that huge diff in speed? as i remember you was around 6 Mbps with my OOL file VanBuren
-
dern nice speed what are your current cablenut settings? maybe i need to redo that OOL file VanBuren
-
no problem, it might get better when its less traffic aswell VanBuren

VanBuren replied to Blunted's topic in Make it Faster...
hey Blunted how did you measure that speed? Best thing is to use taskmanager and see how many % of 100Mbps your using during the transfer, use a very large file and it will be even more accurate VanBuren -
download and unzip this, dubbleclick on the file, click save to registry and reboot this is version 7 VanBuren

no problem Its impossible to tell, but your ISP said you should pull atleast 4 Mbps and your around 2Mbps, to guess a reason would be that phone extension wire, but you cant be sure. You hit 10 posts thats makes you a "Cool guy" keep us updated how things work out for you VanBuren
