  1. What kind and version linksys router you have? Are you using a HyperWrt Firmware? Also, have you tried to uninstall your NIC driver and reboot. Also, are you on half or full duplex?

    Many Problems

Pacer Fan, Have you taken look at your Error logs? If you have WinXP go to the below link: http://www.testmy.net/forum/t-8087.0 I hope this helps, Compuworm P.S. Have you also tried to uninstall and reinstall your NIC driver? Also, make sure you are at 10 full duplex once the driver is reinstalled. Even if this is not the problem it should increase your speed, I hope?

    Many Problems

Take alook at the below link I know you have this program but there is another website associated with this utility that allows you to paste the copied log file of Hijackthis into the form at: hjt.iamnotageek.com. I hope it helps. compuworm http://www.testmy.net/forum/t-8306.0
  5. During a phone conversation with Linksys technical they inquired what my DNS values were and they were what you stated you are currently using. They told me they where public DNS values and I should use Comcast DNS values: Primary: 63.240.76.4 and Secondary: 204.127.198.4. Yes, I did see a speed increase but I am still wondering exactly how different DNS values help. Further, what do you know about the mentioned, TreeWalk program?? Thanks, Compuworm
  6. OK, first I should admit right off I am a noob at this stuff but I can't seem to stop myself from wanting to make my system put out like a broken candy machine. Anyway, I found these links and though others might find some useful information. I use comcast as my ISP and although there are some damn good links in the Testmy.net forums regarding comcast I haven't seen anything regarding DNS problems and comcast (probably didn't look hard enough). Specifically, I mean how is DNS linked to speed? Is comcast's DNS server numbers better than, lets say, public DNS severs numbers? How do I find those DNS values that work best for me? Further, how many here are using TreeWalk (TreeWalk is a "free personal use", automatically installed DNS name caching only server which is similar to, but more efficient than using your default ISP's DNS servers)? Anyway below is some links take a look and let me know your thoughts or just tell me to shut up. 7. I pasted your hijackthis results and go to this site to see your Log File Analysis results: I hope this helps, compuworm http://www.hijackthis.de/index.php#anl Also, see this link: http://www.testmy.net/forum/index.php?topic=8305.0
  8. Additionally look here: http://www.intel.com/business/bss/products/hyperthreading/overview.htm Essentially, Hyper-Threading Technology presents itself to modern operating systems and applications as two virtual processors. The processor can work on two sets of tasks simultaneously, use resources that otherwise would sit idle, and get more work done in the same amount of time. Sincerely, compuworm
  9. Hey just wondering is your NIC set to 10 Full duplex, 100 full duplex, autosense, what? IF you have it set to 100 full duplex set it back to 10 full duplex and reboot and this might fix your download test hangs. Thanks, Compuworm P.S. I know you are a noob and really so am I but you shouldn't make blanket statements about a program like Cablenut that has helped so many others. It is well known this is a great program and has been nothing but a pure benefit to others. Rather, you should have just stated your problems and asked for help rather than blacken the name of a good program. The most likely scenario is that YOU screwed up your speed.
  10. This is what these Forums are all about, I love it? Thanks everyone for your contributions.
  11. The advent of the second web site is suppose to reduce that possibility. You must have been one of those ppl who clicked all the boxes, come on now you know you did!! Thanks for your reply. Sincerely, compuworm

  13. FYI, I just found this utililty called NTune and DAMN its a good one. Check it out hope it helps to get that little bit of extra speed out of your system.. I ran it on two of my PCs and it improved my overall performance. It wasn't a big performance jump just becasue I really put effort into doing that myself but this little utility helped get that last bit of performace out of my systems. I hope it helps you. This utility can be had at: http://www.nvidia.com/object/sysutility.html
  14. FYI, I just got off the phone with linksys tech support and asked why they were listing Firmware for WRT54GS V2 router that is not compatible with it according to their tech notes (see below): The tech explained v4 Firmware for version 4 WRT54GS router is compatible with a v2 WRT54GS router. When pressed why their tech notes stated otherwise the tech just stated it is compatible and there are more features the v2 wrt54gs router could use in the v4 firmware?. I don't know this left me feeling a little confused and I decided not to download the v4 firmware. I mean why state in the tech notes its not compatible if it is????? I don't know maybe I am just being a bone head. Download the driver at your own risk, if you do and it works fine please post so all will know. Thanks, compuworm Linksys, A division of Cisco Systems, Inc. 15. Trying uninstalling your NIC driver and reboot. Have you looked over your error logs?
  16. I was wondering if I really am getting the 4000kbps from comcast or the 6000kbps download promised upgrade rate. I mean specifically when you do a speed test the, 'Speed Test Results" window appears showing your results. Right below that is the, "Results Comparison" area that shows your results compared to average comcast.net, and other typical averages with result bars. What I would like to know is the number shown for comcast.net which is 4273 kbps as shown in my Results Comparison area of my Test Results page an average for my area, state, and/or Nations, what? I don't want to come off as a duh but I would like to know. Can other please post and let me know what they see for their avg. comcast.net speed. Thanks :::.. 17. Are you experiencing anything as mentioned in the below link: Please look over your error logs and see if you have a program misbehaving. I don't understand why this doesn't get more attention on this forum! This should be one of the first places to look for any sources of errors. If someone would have mentioned it to me years ago I would be living longer without the frustrations I endured. Another thing you can try is to uninstall your NIC drivers and reboot and of course download the latest Firmware if you are behind a router? http://www.testmy.net/forum/t-8087.0
  18. Ok, are u running XP, do you have a router, and who is your ISP provider. Look at the links below and this should help. http://www.testmy.net/forum/t-2097.0 http://www.testmy.net/forum/t-3924.0 http://www.testmy.net/forum/t-8087.0
  19. Did you load VanBuren Cablenut settings V7 is out. If your router is new make sure you uninstall your NIC driver and reboot.. This I have found could greatly help. Who is your ISP provider. Are you running XP what? Take alook at the link below damn good information. Make sure you post your testmy.net test result for download and upload. http://www.testmy.net/forum/t-2097.0
  20. Hey what kind of system do you have. I knew Comcast was planning a speed update and did think we had gotten it already but after speaking with a Comcast Tech I saw on the street he said the upgrade had not be initiated for this area yet but they aren't the brightest bulbs are they? Your download speed is really impressive how did you tweak to get the extra 1240 kbps? P.S. I did look at the site for XLink Kai are you aware of the xbconnect program at www.xbconnect.com? If so which one is better in your opinion. P.P.S. Hey dude thanks for all those GREAT POSTS.
  21. I live in a sub of Chicago located 65 miles due west called Dekalb. I have 4000 kbps down and 384 kbps up from comcast. I have an old Dell Dem. with a P3 800 Mhz processor. 22. Well, are you still having the download test hangs around 18 % or otherwise? How many times does this happen or does it happen with every test? Damn I forgot something, are u using a router? Went back and see u dont use a router. Did you uninstall the NIC drivers and reboot.
  23. I assumed based on your earlier posts comcast has already replaced your cable line? They did replace mine but I still had the download hangs.
  24. OK, you are exactly where I was. Inconsistent downloads speed tests and no reason why. Your Cable Modem setting are right-on. This is a software and/or reg problem. I found an item in my programs that was trying to make a connection with a sever and this was affecting my download rates. My download status bar on testmy.net would normally hang around 18% then hang again at 45% and this cave inconsistent download speed rates as is happening to you. 1. Did you look over the Error logs in the Event Viewer? This definitely told me I had a program misbehaving. Once this program was eliminated, cleaned the Reg, and rebooted I never again had a problem with hanging download tests on Testmy.net. 2.The suspect program was attempting to make contact repeatedly with a sever and this was the source of my problems. My ISP is comcast and I am suppose to get 4000kbps down and 384 up but if you look at my download test results I get nearly 7000 down and 372 up which is damn good. 3. So long story short this is a software issue look again for some program you might not be aware of that might be trying to connect to a remote sever while you are online. You might not be getting any error logs because the program is not committing any.
