A Brief Examples of the Wonders DirecWay Tech Support
Swimmer replied to NorCalWM's topic in Show off your speed
Hmm... that is really damn annoying!!! The little trick that I try and like it the letter to the president or CEO... With a well constructed letter you can go over just about everyones heads and get the problem resolved most of the time.. Since you have a history you are better off.. just be nice in the letter! -
this is for playstation... My guess is that you have not open the correct ports to be able to play online... How do I get around my Firewall? If your PC or your router has a firewall, the easiest way to circumvent this problem is to run your Ethernet cable directly from the modem to the Network Adaptor. Most routers have a DMZ feature that will allow you to bypass firewall issues. If these options do not work, it is possible to configure your firewall to allow PlayStation 2 online traffic. Configure your firewall to allow information to flow in from the following ports: SOCOM: Amplitude, US Navy Seals, Twisted Metal: Black Online, NFL GameDay 2003 TCP Ports: 10070

yeah... Satelite is plagued with problems from the start.... extremely high pings, poor connection when the sun is producing flares and a bunch more.... My guess it is would be cheaper to get cable or dsl then it would to keep that satelite connection up and running... I mean how cool does it sound when someone asks how you connect to the internet?? When you ask satelite they are shocked and amazed but then you tell them your speed and they run laughing.. -
damn this cox thing is out of hand... Everyone in the nation is going faster...

I highly doubt it is the switch... I have a dss5+ and it should be able to support your type of network... Are you sure that your systems are clean?? it seems that one of them might be infected with something... the second dudes.. you say it is fine but as soon as he hops on it goes down hill... that makes me thing he has some spyware that is eating up bandwidth... try cleaning your sytems.. -

Ok this is fairly painless... Router- This takes the incoming broadband and divides it to other computer... It is mainly used so that you only need to buy one IP address from the ISP. Otherwise you are going to need many... It also provided some what of a firewall assuming that you dont use port forwarding... There are fairly simple to setup and maintain.. The cost is between $50-100 Switches- This is the same thing as a router with out the firewall or the advanced DHCP, the thing that give computers IP addressed.. These are used to expand most of the time.. I have heard stories about people being about to connect more than one computer and only using one IP address. This is illegal and you have your service terminated if you do this. Hubs- Are stupid switches. Switches know were the info came from and where info needs to go. Hubs on the other hand dont... so everytime you request a website the data is sent to every computer regardless if they need it or not... This means that hubs are less efficent and slower... Hope that helps .. let me know if you need anything else...

right... it isnt a real print server... just do what you did to the other computer but use one as the file server and then hook up the printer to that one also... they way you main computer take less of a hit when you are sharing files and printing...
-
I am not going to be a stranger.. Classes havent started yet..
-
my guess is that there will be upgrades in the areas that COX is now located...
-
looks good.. enable printer and file sharing and you should be set!! I would sugeest setting a "server" on your printer server computer... that way you dont have any proformance hits on any of your machines if someones acess a file

Agree... most people dont need it...
-
if you are timing out there is no real fix for that... you can tweak all he wants but he needs to call the ISP and have them check his route
