You might want to buy a 10.99 or cheap brand name pci nic... This might help with the connection issues... There is just no reason for such a slowdown... unless he is taking most of the bandwidth while he downloads...
-
The thing about having 3 clients is that you will not see a huge slow down until all three are operating at full speed... Even then it will be bairly noticable... And the probility of 3 all running at full speed for more than 3 sec is highly unlikely... If you could you might want to hard wire the ps2 and return the game adaptor... It will be more reliable and less likely to get interfered with... But that is up to you... The speed boost is really not going to help that much... But if you have to have the new and great that would be the way to go... Here are the real life speed results from PCWorld.com : WRT54g (what you have) WRT54gs Same router with "Speed boost" So you can see it is going to be faster... but unless you have a connection that is more than 30 mbps you will not see a difference... If you are going to use it to transfer files from a server and use it for other network reliant programs you might want to check it out... I personally have the DI-614+ from Dlink and here is what I get.. One other thing is that I doubt that the WRT54g has the latest firmware on it so it could actually be faster now than when it was tested... The test date was Oct 14, 2003... Now I have a 4.3mbs connection so I am almost approaching the point that I need to replace my router but that is a minor issue.... I have no problems gaming on it or streaming video over the wireless from Videolan... The only time that it gets slow is when i have one client downloading a file from my server and another surfing the web.... You can see/feel the slow down... Other than that I have no problems with my wireless connection... I also have wep enabled so those numbers are a little bit lower that what they are showing in the graphic.... You can see the difference in the speed but most of the people hardly evey push their network to those speeds... And if you are then you might want to spend the extra money and wire your home/office with ethernet or even go gigabyte...

I guess that is cheaper than most of the dial up programs offered.. And you dont need an extra phone line to beable to talk and surf at the same time...
-
start reading some of the tweaking guides on this site... You have a solid connection and I am not sure how much faster you can really get... The really fast connections are mostly from our friends overseas who have fiber optic connection... The US is moving toward that but it is going to take a lot of time.. By the way welcome to the forum and keep posting.. You are going to learn a lot about this stuff in the near future..!

yeah i know it is just funny... With so much crap out on the net these days i dont think i could stand the sound! By the way welcome to the forum!! Keep posting and tell your friends!

I dont think that you are going to see a big difference in the speed....
-
that is because they only make drivers for those os...

If you are having problems connecting you might be experiencing server issues on the other end... I will check and see if they were doing maintaince to day but I am doubting it... When I use to play it would find that the morning had more empty servers and the games were better... Try and see if late at night or early in the morning is better.. Here is what the network status is: Xbox Live is up and running. Users playing EA's NCAA Football 2005 may experience Friends List issues.

Well that sucks... about the router issue... I have never heard of E-Tech and they dont sell their stuff in the United States. I went on their website and none of their pictures work... Normally I wouldnt buy a product that has a website that looks like it is built by 4 year olds.. In the upcoming weeks talk to your dad and see if you can upgrade that router... Go with a brand name... You might see a speed increase, maybe. As far as the speed thing goes as long as your are happy with what you get i guess there is nothing that you can do... It does sound that you are on a busy node but that happens..
-
that really sucks... Why would you get that?? it is just bairly better that dialup... What is the price on something like that?
-
what do you normally test at??
-
You seem to be fairly constant with only a few kbs difference... Who in the hell has a 256kbs download?? I have never hear of such a connection...
-
Great it beeps every time it gets a popup.... So you get music even though you are playing your mp3s while you surf... Beep,Beep,Beep,Beep,Beep,Beep,Beep,Beep,Beep,Beep,Beep,... you get the idea

Unless you have some cisco router you dont have bandwidth throttling... Which allows you choose which rj45 jacks get more bandwidth... If you think that it is throttling the bandwidth then when he isnt arround plug your computer in the first one run a test and see what happens... I know for a fact that Linksys, Dlink, and most other soho routers dont have port throttle. If you have to go on at 5 am to get what you paid for you might want to contact the ISP... You should be atleast close to what you are paying for during the day...

This is going to be one ultra massive game... Hince why you had to by an XT version to get the free rebate for HL2... You are going to need some horse power in the graphics department to get all of the eyecandy... You can try like 800x600 with all of it on...
-
very nice...
-
You are not going to be able to speed up the xbox... you cant change any of the settings for the nic... You are just getting what you cable or dsl modem is going to give you...
-
dont host... It isnt that big of a deal... Join a clan or find someone who has a really fast connection that you can play with
-
Well it is done... except for the fact that the maxtor hard drive was DOA... P.O.S. That is what you get when dont order Western Digial... Actually I have never had a problem with maxtor i guess this one is a quality control issue... Either way hard drive should be in tomorrow... Benchmarks up tomorrow around 7 to 8 pm central time

Ok i did some research into xbox live and what you are going to need to host a 16 player game... That just referenced a dude with a 4000/800 connection... I did however read about some one with a 600 upload playing Counter Strike with no/minimal lag on a home setup... I cant tell you that upgrading your current connection will help anything improve... Try hosting a 6 or 8 player game... You should have the upload for that.
-
so you cant play at all?? If you are trying to host a 16 player game good luck... you are going to need atleast 256kbs upload for every player.... So close to 4mbs upload... The people who tell you that you can host a 14 or 16 player game on a 350kbs upload line are full of shit.... there isnt enough bandwidth in the upstream.... The only way that you can do it is to get a t3 line which run at either 15mbs or 45mbs.... o yea it is $10,000 per month.... If you cant join a game then that is a different story... I just re-read your original post and it is talking about hosting a huge muitplayer game... There are very few people who can actually host a game on a residential service... Most of the time they are hosting on a college campus which has really fast upload/download speeds.... You figure you have 20000+ people on a network you are going to need some serious bandwidth to feed everyones wants and wishes... The sad part is that hardly anyone uses the upload... So when you have tons of download you are going to have all sorts of upload just sitting around... Bingo you have a line that can host 14 or 16 players... with out breaking a sweat...

The offical date for doom 3 is the third... Tomshardware has confermed it... The second system should be able to play the new games... Might not get all the eye candy but they will run quite well..HL2 is a different story... I have seen some "shipping dates" on some of the stores that are offering pre-orders and they are all listing a date in august....
-
Be nice...

Have fun with that graphics card... The mx cards will most likely not play HL2 or doom3
