  1. That is some what true.... IE is still the grandfather of the browsing world but it seems that most hard core/power users are making the switch to Firefox... After all it is less likely to get highjacked and doesnt have the security holes that IE does Now we wait for SP2
  2. Hey I know that just about everyone on this forum hates swimming and thinks that the world would be a better place with out it... BUT if you have not been watching the olympic trials on NBC you are really missing out on something historic... Michael Phelps is attempting to qualify in 7 events and break the long standing record of Mark Spitz.. the dude who has won the most individual medals in an olympic games... The next time that the trials are going to be on TV is tomorrow at 8 Eastern on NBC... He will be swimming one of the events that he holds the American and World Record in tomorrow night...
  3. The system shouldnt do that if so many people are on at one time... I mean you might see like a 200 to 500 kbs drop under heavy volume but no from 3000 to 30kbs... That is retarted... Seems like you are running fine... I would still scan your computer for spyware... It is also highly unlikely that it was on the server side.... CA3LE has this site on one hell of a backbone and some really kick ass hardware to keep this site pumping, ALL HAIL CA3LE ... Just keep testing and if you run into more problems just post again!
  4. Hey CA3LE just a thought.... It seems like alot of people are posting regarding speed issues... I think it would be cool if we made a post or a pdf that people could check before they make a post regarding their situtation... It seems that the same issues keep popping up... SPYWARE and other hard ware issues( bad line filters) Just a thought I love to help people but saying the same thing get old after a while... I think the site is growing again... Tons of people are here and posting!!
  5. ok tv splitters dont really effect the speed of the cable internet access... I have a few on the line that I am currently on and doesnt make a difference... Being on a wireless router means that you are going to get some interference from microwaves, telephones, and other wireless networks... I have 4 neighbors that are currently running broadband internet access on 802.11b/g routers... The thing to do in this situtation is to change the channel from the default of 6.... This will eliminate any interference from other routers in the area cause most people dont do anything to the routers to begin with other than plug them in. Also you might want to get some protection on that router... At least use 128bit WEP on your network so that some dude who is driving past your house doesnt steal your internet and look or do something illegal... That would be bad!! I am running about 3200kbs which is about 1000kbs slower than if I have my laptop on the ethernet connection... Now that does change depending on where I am in the house... If you dont know by now there is a thing called spyware... I hate this s*** and the people who develop it should be put in prison with a dude named bubba who makes people his B*****es when they drop the soap... There is a great program out there called Spy sweeper. It is made by webroot and is free to download... It also comes with one update before you have to buy the product... http://www.webroot.com/wb/products/spysweeper/index.php Also make sure that you are running an anti virus program... I can not tell you how many people I have talked/helped fix their connection because some dumbass virus is using/slowing down their connection to the point that they are complaining Try those steps and see what happens... There shouldnt be that big of a difference in the wireless/wired speeds.
  6. to answer your question about the speed of the dsl as it gets farther from the central office, yes it does... Most of the time you need to be within 15000 ft to even get the service... What is your service rated at speed wise... You also might want to check both computers for spyware but if both the mac and the intel are getting about the same speed I dont think that removing anything is going to improve the speed... Some one else had problems with his dsl and it turned out to be the filter on the line that the modem is plugged into...
  7. Ok here are the pics...
  8. Well with a t1 you can get fractional t1 which means you dont have to buy the full 1.5 up and down... you can get like 512kbs up/down... The other thing that might be happening is that your switches/routers are setup to limit the maximum amout of bandwidth per rj45 jack. So you can have your servers setup to have more bandwidth than the rest of your network. My guess is that there is something limiting the office employees from enjoying the full speed of the t1 line... But if you are only testing at 500kbs it could be that your company has a fractional t1 line
  9. that would be very nice!! It would be the beta version but hey that is better than nothing...
  10. try downloading new drivers for your nic... That might help with the refresh... When the error occures run an ipconfig /all and see what the ip address is..
  11. I would agree with that totally!! I use to run w2k until I discovered windows xp pro... Let me tell you it does everything plus more that w2k does... You can monitor your network from the os itself!! I am still looking... UPDATE: Ok here is some of the security end of things for the SP2 release.. http://www.microsoft.com/technet/community/columns/cableguy/cg0104.mspx as fars as individual fixes i think that it is going to be just about impossible to see each one... There are going to be some many due to the fact that so many things have been exploited on this os... My guess is that most of the networking will have a fresh face and have some new toys that everyone can use. It looks like the official release date for SP2 is going to be July 21st 2004... This doesnt mean that it is going to be that day though... Expect slow servers and long lines when this one comes out... This patch has been in beta testing for some time now so it should be really close to perfect... At least microsoft is trying to get it right I hope PCMAG puts out a special edition so that I dont have to download it... I dont think I can stand downloading something at less than 50kbs... Think about it like <75% of the world uses microsoft products. And i would guess that most have windows xp.. Atleast 90% of the computer shipped in the past 3 years have had xp on them so every single one of those people is going to want to get this file on their computer... hey maybe cable would be cool enough to download the file and host it so that we can get premium access and not have to wait in long lines... That would be sweet as hell... I guess only time will tell how this is all going to work out...
  12. If this is an error it could be over written in the next sp update for window xp... I believe the update should be out soon... Like any day now.. I will check this information and get back to you in a while
  13. Yah... it might be that you router is reassigning the ip addresses and the computer is not refreshing it... If you have a dlink router this setting is under DHCP... Make it so that the lease time is 1 week and you shouldnt have any more problems... 8 times in a day... so like ever 2 hours... that could be the problem.. Good luck!

    ?

Hmm... Comcast in Tenn... Not bad. Is this the first time your have ever tested you upload?
  15. Well my stat is really not based on reality... I happen to run a site for my swim team lol go figure.. But it also happens that over half of the people who visit my site dont know how to use adobe acrobat... You should have seen how many problems we had with this one issue... I clearly stated that you need at least 5.0.... I had people call me about it when they didnt read and we still running 3.0... lol So expecting them to download a different browser other than what is installed would be like the earth ending... hmm... I wonder what would happen if I steal their computer and put a distro of linux on them... O well that is what happens i guess
  16. Hell for how much I like it I can stand one call to tech support on the first day... I just do want to ever have to call them again...
  17. I think that we all "grew" up with IE as the standard browser... think about it... that is why microsoft it in the legal trouble right now... What they have done is make it so my generation only really knew about IE and used it... Of course you have the odd people who are using Netscape and other varents but that is really uncommon... my website gets about 99% of its views through IE...
  18. I would agree with what Microwave said... Around any big holiday the spy people decide to make sure you know to buy that extra little something that you dont want and have never heard of... I think that Spy sweeper is one of the best out there that I have ever used... It is really easy to nav and it removes just about everything that I have ever seen... As far as some of the ports being open I think that if you have your router to open the ports when they are pinged then well it will be open when you run those tests... However there are ways to close those ports for ever or just when you are not using them..
  19. The build should be complete this weekend hopefully... I am waiting on the kid to get back home from florida.. I guess he didnt have the parts shipped to my house so that I could start the build process. To bad he could have had a really nice coming home present...
  20. Well day one didnt go so well.... I had problems with my intel wireless card... It turns out that dell installed the wrong drivers for the card when they build the system.... That only took me about 90min to find out... and i got to talk to me best new friend in India... Damn outsourcing... But once I got to talk to a "network" specialist it was smooth sailing I got the driver.. upgraded my firmware on my router and now we are back in business... I will tell you guys one thing... Dell make solid machines spec wise.. but they do some really stupid stuff when it comes to support...I dont know of any Americans that enjoy calling India for tech support... The best part of the entire adventure was that the network guy was in Texas... Anyways... I have to wait for my camera batteries to charge... I will have pics soon!
  21. well i got me new toy today... I love it! It is really nice and so far so good... I dont think that i am going to have any problems... But we will see. I will post some pics tomorrow and some benchmark results also...

  25. So I hope that most of you know what Wimbledon is... If not you need to get out more often... Either way one of the largest upsets occured this past weekend... S. Williams was beat by Maria Sharapova, a Russian teen. Well after the match this it what happened: Now if that doesnt get some type of response in the cell phone world I dont know what will... think about it... It was a free plug worth millions and the cell phone failed!! Hell that moment could have been used in tv commercials to move product... O well maybe the cell phone giants will wake up and make sure that none of us ever have this problem again! Could you imagine on of our pro athletes making a call after a championship during the award presentation and have the call not go through?? It would be madness...
