If ya do. And you keep getting that ntrdl finle missing. Let me know how you got it fixed. I even tried putting vista on c drive as well as xp. I dual drives. Yea I tried every combination I could think of. Trying to dual boot it just got the best of me, I cried uncle and took vista off.
-
Problem was the dual booting. For the life of me every time it was the same ntrdl(i think thats right) is missing. Tried vista boot from vista boot pro.org. Also tried Another one. I could either boot into xp or I could boot into vista. Never the both at the same time.

Yea I gave it a "test drive". Really not crazy on the looks of it. Black is forsure not my fav. I have had stardock's windowblinds for sometime. Have a few skins I really like. I also have one monster computer. I use objectdock as well. So looks wise, mine is right up there if not better looking imho than vista. Maybe after a service pack or 2 and when the price comes down maybe. My concern is vista will be like windows 2000. Only out a short time before another os hits. As long is it took for vista that would not shock me. So if another major os is gonna hit within the next couple of years, I will leapfrog vista into the one after that.

I have pretty much done all my ranting and raving about how much I hate vista and believe gates is ripping off people with it. I honestly dont condone pirate software. With vista I forsure make one exception. I hope the hackers get gates good with his "impossible to pirate" vista. Pretty much sure they already have.

uncle billy gates will not be happy.....

Its still ntfs if I am right on that one? They keep talking about the core change. In time vista will no more secure than any other os. Xp was supposed to be faster and more secure. In time and microsoft fixes changed that. My whole complaint is gates took allot of stuff thats been around for a long time in lynix and put it into vista. Now vista on wireless and laptops is forsure better for most users. Just sad that vista could of been so much more than pretty much eye candy. That is what is gonna sell vista. The whole aero thing. When the mods for xp start hitting in a big way lots of people will reconsider vista as a primary os. just my 2 cents. -
For all your porn needs this is a good one. youporn.com . Now all you pervs can go watch and download all you want. This perve already has.

While Im sure he knows. Give it a year and modding xp to vista without cheating and useing "windowblinds and objectdock" Lots of stuff out. Beta stuff. For thoes that think that its not possible. Watch and see. I just feel bad for thoes that made the jump to vista for the looks. Because it wont be long at all before a full fledge mod for xp will be out. With all the same exact features as vista.

Utorrent, isohunt.com and btjunkie.org Love thoes sites the most for all my legal torrent downloads.

Ok im a big dork. The program I wanted to hide has the option not to show the icon. It is just amazing what you can learn when you read the instructions first. Guess its a guy thing. Instructions, I dont need to stinking instructions.
-
Thank you. But thats not what I want. I dont want a couple of them there. I want them completley hidden. I gotta bet with a buddy of mine I can make xp look and act so much like vista he would never know its xp. So I want the icons hidden. But thank you for the responce.

I am looking for software (free if possible) to hide icons so they dont apear in the taskbar when I boot into xp pro. I still want the software to run, I just dont want the icons in the taskbar next to my clock. I have hunted and searched with no luck. Any ideas?

I know allot of you guys play with and use lynix. I know there are probally more than a few that would love to make the switch. I have looked, googled, whatever in hopes of finding a guide to help a new user of lynix. If someone can offer a link to a guide, teach how to dual boot with xp. I really believe there would be more users of lynix.

Think windows vista is a POS? Your not alone.

With people switching to lynix. There are just way to many choices and it can be confusing. I gave lynix a shot and got so frustrated with it I gave up. Tried ubuntu and what a pain in da bottom. They really need to change the lynix inviroment a bit more so it is a bit easier to install and dual boot with xp. I even tried to get help in the forums with not much luck. Lets face it most programs most are used to runs in windows. Until someone can offer a step by step guide for a complete noob not only how to install but how to dual boot then I am just gonna stay away from it. Yes I looked for guides but thoes seemed abit to much. Guess I am just to used to xp. -

The problem with most is the cost of the os. Then you have issues with drivers. Gammers last I knew could not use it. You can download lynix, make it look, feel and act like vista without having to have a monster computer. The cost of doing this is 0 dollars. Gates is putting it to computer users in a big way. 300 or 400 bucks for vista? Thats abit outlandish imho. Everything vista has to offer can be done with 3rd party software. While lynix is not yet ready for your average user yet it gets closer and closer every day. Gates just took alot of popular 3rd party software, bundled into a os and shipped it out and is laughing all the way to the bank. -

And thats my point. Its supposed to be more secure. Most will just hit yes anyway. There goes the security. If you want a secure system. Then knowledge is the key. That can be found free. If you want a totally secure window inviroment? Then unplug from the internet. Place your computer in a box in a closet. No worries about security. Hackers have pretty much declared war on microsoft again. There are already countless releases of vista one could download and use for free. The latest is the custom built vista that is perminatly activated. I don't condone it. But for the cost gates wants for vista, I don't blame them either. -

Yea I would love to mess with lynix but not sure about it. I have seen some claim some lynix programs are getting closer to a windows inviroment. In time im sure I will make the plunge. -

While I kinda went of on a tanget abot vista in another thread I think it boils down to time will tell. Will vista be like windows 200 pro? Only out a short time before another major release? I just think gates is way to worried about eye candy. He wants everyone to have more. Someone needs to remind him sometimes less is more. Put a os out there that dosen't require a major computer that your average user really has no need for. Put something out there that will improve computer stability not make it worse. Take the useful programs for vista, drop all the eye candy, and continue down that path. There are tons of free programs that will give you all the eye candy you could want or need. I should say yes I have had and tried vista. Hated it so bad. I took it off my computer. Just think its such a rip off. 200 bucks just is not getting you much in useful programs. -
Imho Im just not sold on the more secure thing. I believe its just like a firewall. Sure good idea to have one, but if you don't make the effort to understand some of the stuff it can be useless. Most average users will see the message "this or that program is trying to access the internet do you want to allow?" Most users will simply hit yes. I just believe vista is trying way to hard to "protect" the average user. They are makeing it tough for even some geeks to fix there own issues. Had someone with the problem dual booting vista and xp. I found a program for them, vista will not let you edit the boot file. Have seen some claim that vista will be like windows 2000. Will only be out a year or 2 before a new os hits the market. Could only be a rumor. Who knows. I just personllay think gates droped the ball on this release. There is always hope for the next new release. God only knows how big and bad your computer will have to be to run that os. Sad that the new machines that claim can run vista really can only run it at its minium default settings. Most of you have seen the lawsuit on that one. I just am grateful I am able to put together my own system and run whatever os I want and not be forced into it by buying another machine. Just hope im not comming off wrong on this. Just enjoying a friendly debate. I am NOT trying to slam or flame anyone. I am NOT trying to tell you your wrong and Im right. Just enjoying the debate and everyones imput. While I may not agree, I do respect your thoughts and such.

To much information in the news ya think??
ninjageek replied to ninjageek's topic in General Discussion
We need someone from canada to chrip in on this one. They have guns, but not near the problems we have. Or so I think? Is there news diffrent. Or do they have the attitude "we refuse to become like americans are " -
Paying 200 bucks for "eye candy" when the same can be done with "window blinds" for 40.00. Probally take lots less resorces as well. More and more 3rd party software allot of it free already out to make xp look like vista. I have used msstyles (free) Glass 2k (free) And of course this one. http://www.windowsxlive.net/?page_id=15. (FREE) All free and work fine with xp. My self If I want eye candy I will head to the beach, if I need to get computer work done I will fire up xp.

Seems like after columbine hit the news, shootings in schools started to get worse. Now we have this current shooting. I wonder if it just gives sickos another way to get the attention they want. I fear we are gonna see more and more of it.

Update. Fixed it. Just dumb luck I guess. Ran xp pro in safe mode. Ran the patch, worked fine. Rebooted and it worked then. No idea what the deal is? Oh well.

Had no idea on that one. Thought vista was supposed to be so much more secure. Sorry. I am being a smarty pants. Vista is turning into such a joke. One more reason to stay away from it.
