Depending on your setup. I myself partitioned one of my 2 harddrives and use that partiion to hold my backup files and things. I allowed for 30 gig and it seems to work well. I keep to folders on that partion. One for my games and stuff, and one for backup. I also keep on hand 2 dvd's that can be erased and written over. I keep the backup folder up to date of stuff I really don't wanna loose. Then from time to time i burn it to dvd. I have a 2 seperate dvd's of the same backup. A backup of my backup as it were. That way if my hard drive or whatever goes bad Im coverd. After loosing my stuff a time or 2 due to harddrive issues or whatever I have become a backup freak.

So how much does a a person save with lynix laptop compared to windows laptop? Huh. Never really thought about that. I just assumed the price would be the same. Does make sense a lynix laptop should be cheeper.

Respect what your saying. Just firmly disagree with it. But like I said. Can only hope microsofts new os release is better. I am trying hard to like vista. Use it all I can. Just nothing overly impressed with considering the cost of it.

I really was not that way until vista hit the market. I just really think gates really put it to your average user with this release. For 50 bucks I can turn xp into vista. Winowblinds and several free aplications and you would never know the diffrence. As far as securiy of vista. People are already turning off uac. Everyone hates thoes nag screens. Lets just hope with microsofts next release they can redeem themeselfs.

Said product to launch at midnight. Said product to become infected with virus by 12:10 and crash by 12:20. Updated by 12:30 with 20 patches, then rereleased by 1 am with a new improved design that will cost 3 times as much and be just about as useful.

They are not condoning same sex marrage. They are simply teaching tollerance. Myself I care less if bob and tom down the street wanna get married. Not my job to judge. Not 100 percent sure but think microsoft offers insurance to same sex couples.

I would have my doubts about someone wanting linux pre loaded. The linux geeks will already have there own fav flavor of linux ready to load. Average users are still a bit intimidated about linux. Linux can a bit of peta at times. Most are to just used to windows. In time llnux will apeal to the masses. Just my huble opinion.

I agree with you eversman. I am still surpised as well. Seems ok so far. The only gripe is the whole "search" thing. I find it a bit cumbersome at times. I did the whole "unhide folders and such" thing. Finding my opera profile in vista seemed a bit of a task. Still playing with it. Learning and such With xp I always kept things organized. My downloads went strait to my desktop. I had a folder just for it. Up to this point I can find things in xp much faster than vista. But again. Im still learning and playing. Up to this point vista has been a surprise. Not ready to use it full time. Still use it as a learning tool. In time that may change.

Good for her. So many wanna use time outs and medicine and blame everyone and everything for there kids messing up. I used spankings for my kids when they were little. Maybe twice a year dad had to put them over the ol knee. Just enough so they knew dad was not messing around. Now my kids are young adults I asked them how they felt about it. They all 3 said it would probally be the same thing they do with there kids. If done right, it is effective, and the issue was fixed and over in no time. Seeing what this woman did to her son. That is what being a mom and a parent is all about. She loves her son. She cares. Good for her. Props to ya mom. Good Job.

I am probally got get blasted for this one Its just my humble opinion that intel being faster than amd or vice versa is over rated. You put them both head to head and you will not notice a diffrence. Ok sure if you wanna run a benchmark depending on which one you use this one may claim to be faster. On a computer no big diffrence. Sure dual core is a big diffrence. I can burn and surf and my computer dosent lag. My dual core which is a amd 4200 can run vista premium full tilt with no video card. Dual core is great for multi tasking. But I would put this 2.2 up against a 3.0 dual core anyday. You will never notice the diffrence. Its all in the bragging rights. Nothing more.

Well with the tax does that include anything? You can forsure say most americans pay a yearly tax for there t.v. Its called a cable or satalite dish bill. Our tax dollars put the satilites up there. Now we have to pay a monthly fee to use them.

Has anyone beside Kelly Clarkson really done anything much after idol? While I am not a fan of the show. I just don't watch that much t.v., I do gotta wonder what became the winners of the past idol's. Not to change the subject but american inventor. That was one show I kinda watched. Never did see who won and what they invented.

One thing to always rember and I always try to impress upon people. Is the possibility of it comming up missing. While I will be the first to admit I really don't know that much about it as yet. I would think there would be a program you could install that would act like a gps. That way if it does come up missing, tracking it down would be rather simple I would think. I am not so sure I would password protect it. I tell you why. If someone does take it you want it back. If they find they can not use it, it could end up in the trash or dumpster or destroyed. While I am almost sure you are aware of all this. It never hurts to be reminded. Sometimes we forget the simple things. Myself included.

Won't be all that long before the monsters of today will get the same reaction. What?? Only 2 gig of ram?? I so rember running 64 megs of ram and at that time. That was pretty fast. Of course windows 98.

I just ran across a video that seemed so "different" It was phil collins playing drums behind ozzy osborne doing "crazy train" Another strange one was the half time super bowl show when britney spears and nsync singing "walk this way" with aerosmith. Those kind things just make you go HUH?? This may sound wrong and not my intetion, somethings just dont belong together in my humble opinion. Now that I have had to fight for a 2nd time vista boot issues I need to know how to fix this. I tried both vistabootpro and one other, the name escapes me. vistabootpro did fine fixing vista bootup. The problem is xp booting up to that stupid /ntrdl missing file. 1.So to fix it. I know I need to copy and replace a couple of fliles from xp. 2. I know they have to go back into the xp directory, i326 I believe thats the right number for it. 3. I am pretty sure if you do a repair job on xp. Boot it and type in fixboot, I think? It has to go to C drive, that would be the one vista is on. So how do I fix it, and what is the best way to go about it. I really want to learn how to do it. I have googled it to death and most of it makes not allot of sense. My setup works fine. Sooner or later My phone is gonna ring with "help"!! I will be so glad when some smart person (probally a 13 year old kid) comes up with a program to fix it automatically.

It forsure taught me something. It just shocks me how xp and probally vista can run with so many issues. Im not so sure if thats a good thing or not. No idea if the average user is just lazy, or feel like they are not smart enough or what the deal is with so many issues. Guess they figure they will just use the computer and take it to the shop when it breaks down. Or maybe all the work and experience I have and being a geek it just looks easier that what it really is. Its a paridox.

Ya know. I may someday soon replace one of my older harddrives. I think it may be fun just to see how many nasties I can get on it. Get them removed and still be able to run xp. No firewall, no updates. Just download all the garbage I can. Give it a few days, Give myself just one day to see what I can do. Laugh, then format it and pitch it. If and when I do I will give you all a shout. Should be fun.

Thats what I figured. Its cool. I can just use it from my xp pro on my slave drive. Thank ya.

I have the latest greatest version of gdrive. Can not get it to work with vista. Any ideas?

This looks rather intresting. Checked out the forums and stuff I think I wanna give this a try. Oh when it comes to refering people here. Everytime someone either friend of on the net thinks they have virus or spyware issues I always suggest a speedtest first here at testmy.net. It the first step I always suggest. Of couse plenty more steps after that. So if you would be so kind I would apreciate it. Are you kidding me. I was shocked xp was even running and able to get on the net with just what I found. Wow!!

Working on a friends computer. I used registry mechanic 5.0, hijack this, ad aware all up to date. Had a nasty. Ran mechainc, issues found 750 Ran hijack this, 14 issues found Ran ad aware, 45 nasties. Ran hijack this again in safe mode, no issue Ran ad aware in safe mode, no issues (this is after I ran the above numbers in regualr mode. Still had one nasty that refused to be removed. Had a blue question mark with flashing red circle over it. I don't rember what page it opend. I googled it, found the free tool and got rid of it. Computer owned by 19 year old female (friend of my kid) Her 22 year old boyfriend. While I said nothing to them I just thought to myself, how many porn sites did you hit?? Oh yea can we guess what antivirus program they used?? All together class....NORTONS!! So gave a brief rundown, loaded avg and comondo firewall, got rid of nortons and Told them yes Update your windows!!

Oh the issues booting had. Trying to set it up on the slave drive was almost impossible. In hind sight. I should of just renamed my drives while still just having xp. Switched the drive letters around. Vista wants your c drive. That was some of the problems. Its been awhile and I really don't rember why I had all the issues I did. Just rember having them. Again in hind sight some could be blamed on user error. I just think it was a combination of things. Vista will not let you rename your drive letter from c to d. Unless there is something I just don't know. I do recall useing I think vistabootpro to rename "previous version of windows" And changed it to xp pro. vista refused to boot up. Its well behaved now. I got it backed up. I do rember trying to ghost my d drive. Restoring my d drive (xp pro) caused booting issues as well.
