  1. Now I scaned and it showed nothing !! Its gone. Does work well. Mod will have to delete it. I can't seem to. Can someone else confirm there getting the trojan warning? Seems odd not only did it pass avg it passed webroot as well?? BIg time sorry. I really did scan it. Hope its just another avg false positive. Avg has been bad about that of late. Not sure how it can be a trojan when you install nothing ?? Strange. Mods delete the file please.
  2. I really don't use firefox. I did however trip across this handy free program. Just click on it and it will show next to your system clock. Run firefox. This will force firefox to stop using so much memory. Does seem to work. Someone will have to give it a shot and see what they think.
  3. This may be off topic, unsure ?? The whole legal vs illegal. The only ones makeing any money off this topic is the riaa or whatever its called. I did see someone did countersue and I can see that going on in the future. They just offer a settlement type payment. People get scared. Rather pay then try to defend themselfs. I am sure some do it because they simply can not afford a lawyer. Does make me kinda bummed. All this file sharing has killed the music industry. Along with apples pay per song, and lots of other places offer it as well. Record shops are a thing of the past. New bands really don't stand a chance and getting a deal anymore. In the end we all loose. Tons of music we will never hear. The net is forsure a doubble edged sword. Just wonder with all the bad the internet is doing and becoming if the good is worth it anymore. What really blows as well as scalpers buying up tickets to shows and selling them for huge amounts of money. I can see congress stepping in and trying to stop it. Some states already have laws in place. There will be more. I can see that comming to a stop in 5 years or so. Atleast I sure hope so.
  4. Just started the pc version. Not bad. Still unable to figure out how to switch to diffrent player though. May be more fun once that is figured out.
  5. Thought this thread may or may not be useful to share your tips and tricks to back up data and windows os. 1.To back up and restore my drivers I use drivemax. http://www.innovative-sol.com/drivermax/index.htm . Its free. The only thing is they want a e-mail address to send your key. Use a account and expect some spam. Or pm me I will provide you with a key. Its not stealing or pirate stuff. Its a free program and this will stop the spam. 2.I use gdrive and gmail to back up smaller files and programs. Handy and always there if you want. 3. I partiton both my harddrives, and use the partions I made to back up programs and I use norton ghost 2003 which imho is the best to back up your current windows install. I keep a ghost image of c drive on d drive and d drive on c drive. 4.As I find useful programs, and as well as notes I keep on stuff, I place them on my partion I use only for data. In time I burn it all to dvd. Do this about once every 5 or 6 months or sooner if I get more programs I really want to save. Throw out the old dvd software backup and burn a new current software backup to dvd. 5. I keep a ghost image on dvd as well. I really like nortons ghost 2003. My ghost image is only of xp with all the updates and nothing else. That way I have a clean backup copy of xp and reinstall the software I want from my dvd backup. Got any other back up tips or ideas, sure love to see them.
  6. I have that card. The guys here reconmended it. I am supper happy with it. Preforms well. Plays all the latest games just fine. The price was great. It really is a nice card.
  7. I have seen others use toothpaste to remove light scratches from a cd. Seems to work. Just use a decent brand. LIke the other suggestion. Try in a hidden spot first.
  8. Been thinking of changing the sounds of my windows xp. I have xp sounds and vista sounds, I know how to do it, just need to know where to download some new sounds. Maybe something homer simpson type funny, not sure. Any leads guys and gals??
  9. Do you need to worry about getting lost or maps or is this a pretty strait forward game and it leads you wear you need to go ?? One other question. Is it just a shooter game or is there a bit of strategy involved, maybe some puzzles as well??
  10. Has anyone started playing it yet? I have seen the reviews and the trailers. Be cool to find out how good it is from a gamer. Lets face it reviews are reviews. I did hear its a rather short game 12 hours playing time and thats it.
  11. That is one sweet looking os. Wonder how long it will be before someone figures out a way to put it on a reqular pc.
  12. Just hope you guys offer some screen shots. That would be apreciated
  13. Hey cool. Leopard will be out soon. So I guess we will have a better idea of what the next microsoft release will look like now in a few years.
  14. Well I found the solution to the problem. I got this. http://www.innovative-sol.com/drivermax/index.htm and backed up both c and d drive drivers. While this program is free and really works well, I tried it today on a fresh install job, by far the best, be careful. They want your e-mail address to send you a key. I used a "spam acount" and boy did I get nailed with spam. Its just a generic yahoo account I use for forums and this kind of stuff. Been almost 2 days with no sign of my key as of yet. I went in search of one and found one, it works fine, unlocked it. Seems funny had to search the dark side of the net for a key for this free program. Odd.
  15. Looking for generic drivers for xp. The closest I could find is this http://driverpacks.net/DriverPacks/ . Is there even such a thing. A program that would install these generic drivers for xp ?? The link is for slipstreem the drivers into xp. Thanks
  16. As you can see, oppinions will always vary on cpu and cooling and overclocking. I have a 400 watt power supply and all is well with mine. Everything runs fine. My last build I cheated somewhat. I bought a barebones system from cpu slolutions. I got the case, power supply, motherboard and cpu prebuilt, My thoughts were if the cpu or powersupply or motherboard went bad it would be there problem. They could not blame it on a mistake putting it together. From there I just added a bit at a time, I got the ram, hardrives, video card, the dvd burners, and just added it here and there as I found what I wanted at a price I could afford. Its been close to a year now. I got the case, motherboard, cpu, and powersupply plus a copy of xp pro. At the time I paid 600 bucks for it. But the 4200 had just came out, had really great reviews and I believe I paid 190.00 for it. Your power supply should be fine for running all you want.
  17. Before the really fast video cards and cpus hit yea overclocking was needed to run games and such. If you already have a dual core whats the point of overclocking it?? Benchmark and bragging rights? I have the dual core amd 4200 with a video card and my computer is super fast. I can run all the game I want. I can multitask til the cows come home. So overclocking is pointless. Its not gonna improve the speeds of the computer. I am gonna run this dual core, the next build will be the or motherboard replacement will be the twin dual cores. Just not sold on the quads. The ever popular amd vs Intel will continue on forever. Kinda like the ford vs chevy or even better which browser is better. Its just a matter of taste. Both chips are fast. Both are nice chips. Bench Marking imho is overrated. Either the game runs or it dosent. Either its fast or its not. Its just spliting hairs. I will say, that 80mm fans while look nice, are a gonna be a thing of the past. The computer is just running a bit to warm for them. 120mm are the way to go. I have 2 120s front and rear and a 80mm at the top. A 120will not fit up there darn it. Sure droped my temps.
  18. I respect what your saying I really do. But imho, I just disagree, which is cool. Your right the cpu fan could die. But having good air flow would help tons. If your computer runs all the time, or you run it allot, The pump will only last so long. Same principle as a waterpump for a car. Sooner or later it will go out. Overclocking is just a bad Idea. Your pushing the the cpu past what it should normally run. A decent watercooling system is gonna run you well over a hundred bucks. A better cpu will is cheeper. A dual core 4200 amd will run you 75.00 bucks at new egg. I run the 4200 dual core with a decent pci-e video card. My cpu runs at 26 C idle. 45 c full load. Well below the max of what it could run. The max for my cpu is 65 c. Just my 2 cents.
  19. Gotta throw my 2 cents in here if ok. Liquid cool imho not worth the hassle. I mean really you want liquid inside your computer?? As well what happens if the pump on your liquid cooler dies?? Your computer will be down til you get the pump fixed, and hope you catch the fact the liquid cooler quit working before your cpu heat goes through the roof. I mean really do you want to have to watch your temps all the time?? I found replacing my rear exaust with a 120 mm fan that moves 80 cfn (cubic feet a min) Made a huge diffrence. I am gonna replace the fan it the top of my case that is also used for exaust with the same 120 mm fan. I dont have a fan in the side of my case. It has a funny looking plastic tunnel. Tried to replace with a 80 fan and found it rased my temp a few C . My dual core runs at a cool 30 C With the max temp reacing 52 C. So unless your a overclocer (which I DON"T recomend) fan cooling is all you will ever need.
  20. Well over the last few days I sure learned tons. Think I could better offer someone a small bit of advice on cooling. This is what I think about it. 1. Liquid cooling looks cool, but unless you overclock really over kill imho. 2. Overclocking, you will not notice that big of diffrence, By the time you pay for liquid cooling it would be cheeper and better just to upgrage your mobo and cpu. 3. If and when the pump goes out of your liquid cooling, you will not notice unless you pay attention to your temps mostly. And really, it is liquid, do you want that Inside your computer?? I don't. 4. To drop the temps for your cpu. Clean out the dust from the heatsink. DONOT remove the heatsind from the cpu. Use old toothbrush to clean the fans and heatsink, air will just force the dust further down the heatsink. 5. Put a nice 120 mm fan for exaust in the back of your case. Doing this droped my temps 10 C. Pick up a nice one for 15.00 and you want the cfm of the fan (cubic feet a minute) around 80. Put another one in the very top of your case. Heat rises. This will remove even more heat from the tower. 6. 80 mm fans are nice but really just look cool imho, Replace when you can with the 120 mm. Thoes bad boys move some air and pretty quiet. 7. Replacing the heatsink and fan, unless your fan died, really not necessiary. Clean out the heatsink, put the 120s one in the back one in the top of your tower. 30.00 bucks and a bit of effort, is your best bet. Just my 2 cents from my own personal experience and LOTS of googling.
  21. I at first was using my temp guage that is on my computer tower to mesure tempature. I went ahead and downloaded pc probe. Both are pretty close to the same when showing temp plus or minus 5 c points. I also gave another program I believe called fan speed a shot. Both programs showed the exact same temp. So I just kept pc probe. I prefer that program. WIth using my guage on my tower as a guide. WIth the 120 mm fan installed. And replacing the plastic cone with a 80 mm fan, I am getting roughfly a 10 celcius cooler. I have another Idea or 2 I want to try, See what kind of cooling affect it has either positive or negitive. It apears that all is well for cooling. So I am forsure gonna leave my cpu heat sink and fan alone. I thank all you guys and gals for your help and imput much apreciated.
  22. Well this is what I did. I went and bought a 120 mm fan for exaust in the back. I have a aspire case and I took off that plastic tunnel and put the 80 mm fan in its place. At idle, 30 c with a load (playing half life 2) About 45 c. Considering what I had before thats a drop of about 10 c. So it apears unless someone else speaks up, that new paste for the cpu is not gonna be needed. I have googled the heck out of it. Amd says with my processor amd64 4200 the max is 72 c for heat. Honestly, I just don't know what is considerd norm for this processor? I have hunted and searched and found nothing. Anyone give me a clue with stock cooling what the norm should be? Thank you very much guys and gals.
  23. Ok, thermal pad?? Does that mean no grease needed?? Sorry when it comes to this im clueless. If I decide NOT to replace the fan and heat sink can I get a thermal pad for what I already have??
  24. I have not yet bought any parts. Just pokeing around looking, thinking. This is what my current game plan is. Gonna replace my 80 mm rear fan with 120mm fan. I may open the back up more to allow for greater air flow. Cut a hole in the back and put it there. Use a whole saw to get a wide open hole, again greater air flow. Use the 80 mm fan I am replacing and put it in the front of the tower. THINKING about replacing my cpu fan and heat sink. I may put in the 120 mm fan, Put the 80mm in the front and see how my temps are. Just not real sure a new cpu fan and heat sink is needed and may be a bit of overkill. Thought about luquid cooling my system, I am just not sold on that. I don't overclock so I just dont think its needed. Stay tuned and I will let you guys know how this turned out and how much my temps droped.
  25. Getting ready to replace my heat sink and fan for my cpu. Not sure how to aply the thermal paste, how much to use, how to clean the old off before aplying the new. Replacing to see if it helps with cooling issues. Here is the thermal paste....http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&DEPA=0&Description=arctic+silver+5+thermal+compound.&x=14&y=36 Here is the fan......http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835185125 I know the fan will fit my setup, have a dual core atholon with a asus motherboard. Thank you kindly in advance.
