My first video editing project. Using windows vista
ninjageek replied to MttFrog13's topic in General Discussion
Really nice job. Hope you do another. Lots of useful things going on there. -
Just started playing with the dreamscenes. Got some themes. Diffrent. I reckon. Jury is still out on it though. I just hope while there are a few programs that can fix either vista or xp, I hope someone comes up with a way to fix both at the same time so dual booting will not be such a pain. Running 2 gig of dual ram seems like enough. The dreamscenes don't take much on the resource end. Forusure agree on the lynix thing. That may be my next tackle. Just wish there were not so many choices. Here and there have seen a few examples of some killer stuff visual wise. Not sure how they do it but I will figure it out.

Not sure how you got that from what I wrote but thats cool. I have dual hard drives. Vista on the master and xp on the slave.

I finally gave in and put it on my computer to stay. Tell you what its a moody thing with the booting. Its real easy to screw it up and getting it to play nice with xp on the slave drive can be tough. Hope gates fixes that or someone comes up with a program to deal with it. With vista boot pro and the other popular one. You can fix either vista or xp. Not both at the same time. I just can not see how vista is gonna be friendly to the average user. You either disable uac or it drives you crazy. Changing it around to make it a bit easier to see is kinda hard to. Gotta change the dpi. Vista is ok fine for the geek. But for the average user I can see them getting rid of it and going to xp. First time they install a program that has to start with vista and vista dosent wanna boot up they are gonna go nuts. I do give vista props for the backing up ability. Backing up is more geek than average user. Geeks know back it up cause it will fail at times. Average users will not bother with it.

I can say in all honesty. If I ever get the chance and I probally will, I will personally tell one of the guys that was in the movie what I thought. The guy that played the editor of the newspaper that toby worked for. I know him. His name is jk simmions. When we were kids we just called him kim. Last time I saw him was at my dad's funeral. Nice guy. Really dosen't take himself to serious. Me and my brother gave him some crap about his big fan club. All 5 of them. He just laughed and said yea and 4 of them are on his payroll. Will say I was shocked. He did say there was no way he could retire forever soon. After taxes and everyone was paid he did not make as much as people would think. He has been in quite a few movies. Did allot of law and order stuff. For awhile he was always eating something in every sceen. He claims he gained 30 pounds because of it. True story.

If you ever wanna teach someone the value of never assuming. That would be the story to tell. Cause what happens when we assume. ? All together now.

Yea I agree swimmer. There are just so many people saying so many things. Who is right and who is wrong. Who knows. If you have vista and love it and works ok. Stay with it. If your unsure. Buy a copy, I am not sure of the prices around yet. Anyway buy a copy of it. See what you think. See which versions and such you can use it for so many days without activating. I myself found modding xp into a vista clone is really becoming popular. Its pretty easy to do. I gave my xp a major facelift I do like the looks. Im not useing a vista look. But do have the glass borders and such. So I really think that if your just wanting the looks of vista, turn your xp into a vista clone.

I stand corrected. Thanks for catching that mistake. I just missed the pre installed part. My bad. Just don't know that much about vista. Just the stuff I read. It really bothers me lots of people are comparing vista to windows me. Its a short lived os that will be updated in a huge way with the next microsoft os release. Give it time. See what happens. But make no mistake. There are people who like and use windows me. Its a matter of taste. To each there own.

Not trying to change the subject but what are your thoughts on all the camers in england. I hear its almost like big brother watching you. They are every where. I would think it would kinda creep me out. Then again the streets would be a bit safer at night.

Im almost sure vista does not install like xp. Vista saves all your files and puts them in there own folder. Xp would delete everything. Vista saves it all. I am almost sure about this the file is called windows old. No im not being a smarty pants. Please make sure you back up everything. Vista is killer on a lap top in my humble oppinion. Just not real great on a desktop as of yet. You may not be happy with it. So go with the side of caution incase you want to revert back to xp. Best of luck. I am almost sure you have 30 days to play with it. I would suggest play with it for 28 days see if you like it. If not get rid of it and you can install it again on another computer someplace down the road. I would use nortons ghost or something simular and hide it on its own partion.

Just saw spiderman 3. That was horrid. There is 2 hours and 20 bucks I will never see again. Um hello, giant sand man. That was a lame bad guy. Gee how do we fight the bad man made of sand. Maybe the little girl from the movie "signs" could lend a hand. Yes I know it was a commic book. But come on. I even herd a small kid ask his parents during the movie why don't they just poor water on him. Everyone around him laughed. How many countless people know who spiderman really is. Half the city? The bad guys try to kill him the same way the bad guys tired to kill bond. James Bond. God I hated that movie more than vista. Spiderman just jumped the shark. Sad to see him go.

Probally spent a few weeks tracking down the software I wanted. There are so many flipping choices. The way I got the drives to apear like vista was a small free prgram I just kinda triped across. I went with stardock stuff. There object dock and window blinds. As I triped across diffrent Icons I liked I saved them aside. I really like the stop light for the recycle bin. I used touch of glass for window blinds but hated the start button. Took me a few days to figure out how to change it. Now That I have everything together and organized, backed up. To start from square one, I could probally do it in less than a hour. The window blinds I changed the button on is saved as well. I learned long time ago back up. Cause in my quest to become a geek I have hit the microsoft xp oh S#@& button several times. Thats the button that says "are you sure you wanna aply these changes" I hit yep. Oh S#@&!!!! Where is my xp disk. Time to reload windows again. Total cost was 40.00 for windowblinds and object dock. Everything else was free. I myself got a better deal than paying 40.00 bucks. Thats all im saying about that I plead the 5th.

I also have the vista crusors I use and I have the icon set as well as a few others.

While I know a bit about xp I never messed with the looks of it. Well I changed the wallpaper but that was about it. This is not vista. Its xp pro. Sure learned a ton doing this. It was kinda tough to figure out some of the stuff. Yea I got it backed up in a big way don't wanna do this kind of moding again! But I probally will

Now thats funny. My kids seems to think that ol dad may know some about computers he is still a big dork that went to school with fred flinstone. Now that they are ages 21 and 22 I can reply that all may be true. But I did not have to wrap myself in suran wrap every time I wanted to go on a "date". That usually shuts them up. Then of course I also have to remind them they have my dna. Of couse my daughter says her dna came from the ups man, so she is fine. I remind her if thats the case that ups man owes me some back child support I gladly paid. And next time she needs ol dad's wallet she can just go find money at the ups store. That shuts them up.

I may be wrong, but I think he wants it to run in the background. No Icon on the task bar, and only show up when a message is sent. Hide it til a message is recived.

I used to hang in another forum. I got so sick of everytime someone asked a question they either gave a link and or "google it". That just tweaks me out. Just because you "google it" does not mean your gonna find the right information. Just because you click a link is no indication they can understand it. Some of the stuff can get pretty geeky. Think the other that really tweaks me is someone responding "thats a dumb question"! Oh that really gripes me. I just wanna reach through the screen and slap them for that kind comment. For whoever reads this. There is no such thing as a dumb question. Ask anything you wanna know,' I have been asked and taught someone what reboot means and how to do it. What computer wallpaper is and how to find it. Where and what is my desktop. Everyone has to learn sometime. Thoes are NOT dumb questions. If you don't know, ask. Its how we all learned. I promise we were not born geeks. We are not all college students who study computers for a living. We are just normal everyday people that spent years learning this stuff by asking and learning. Sorry. Im ranting. I just hate snooty "thats a silly question google it" people. And for goodness sakes if you dont understand what someone is trying to say, ask again. Myself included have caught myself speeking a bit to geeky. Time to shut up.

Oh opera acts sometimes a bit strage when it comes to replying in this forum. No idea why. Probally ought to back up my settings, take it out and do a clean install.

Its the simple things in life that offer the greatest memories. Good for you. Glad you had a great day.

I just think gates is going the wrong way. Just like the new cars out. Oh sure more bells and whistles, but sure a pain in the ass and cashy to fix. Less can be so much more. Yea windows 2000 was nice. Was a pain when it came to the drivers. 2000 just did not have many drivers. Gotta wonder after vista how big and bad will your computer need to be? What a min of 4 gig? Unless there is a major file system change like windows 98"s fats to xp"s ntfs, I can see tons staying with xp.
