    IE7 problem

I went to CNN opened several windows ,had two videos running at the same time.No problems or browser close. I would give the safe mode install a try. If that doesn't work DL IE7 again from the IE site coule be you got a corrupt copy for some reason.

    IE7 problem

First Uninstall in normal mode the like dlewis23 posted reinstall in safe mode. It's probably some setting in Internet Options in the Security or Advanced tab. I have Vista & I usually don't go to CNN but I will surf it & see if my IE7 acts up. I do have some of the Vista "features" turned off.In Security Center &UAC.So I might not get any errors
  4. Thanks for the replies.I will explain more.He has a Home/Office that he runs a small business from.He uses a Mozilla(not Firefox) browser mostly with it's e-mail account but I think it's called Mozilla Mail (not Thunderbird). This is what he uses for the business e-mail account with 3 e-mail addresses.Mozilla Mail has a left sidebar with a tree list so he can just select between them.He wants to keep this for his business. He uses OE for his families personal e-mail he has 3 folders but all the email comes into the main account & has to be separated.I think there is a way to separate the mail I found but it still requires the switching Identities from the pulldown. He would like OE to have the side bar with an account tree.I thought there might be a registry hack or 2 that might add the sidebar.I know I have added radio buttons & added to lists in other Windows programs I just thought there might be a way to do this with OE.
  5. I am trying to help a friend make Outlook Express work like his Mozilla mail at least this one thing. He has 3 e-mail accounts from the same ISP in Mozilla there is a sidebar that shows all 3 accounts. In OE there is no such sidebar for identities. The way you have to change it is File(pulldown) click Switch Identity then select the Identity from that window then OK.He just wants it simpler. He is using IE6 &OE6 .With Windows 98SE .So anyone know how to do add an Identity sidebar to OE?
  6. Here is some information I posted in another topic http://www.testmy.net/t-20201 Try these netsh int tcp set global ? (This will list the setting options) netsh int tcp set global autotuninglevel=normal (This is an example ) netsh int tcp set global ? will show you the available changes netsh int tcp set global autotuninglevel=normal is probably the way it is now. Try experimental then disabled if experimental doesn't help. On the others set to disabled or none then try default one at a time & check to see if you get a speed increase .Unfortunately you have to experiment for the right combination.& you might want to reboot in between changes. netsh int tcp show global will show your current changes These are put in the command prompt run as administrator This is about all I have found .

What kind of movie video are you looking at? I explored a couple of mine & all they have are.vob , .ifo ,& .bup files. Here is a link to daemon-tools kamil234 posted .It seems there is a freeware older version & a pro version that's frre if you take it with adware or if you buy it you get it without the adware. http://www.daemon-tools.cc/dtcc/announcements.php If the link above is too close to advertising please remove it.
  8. wo I guess that depends on whether both are running with the fox or the hounds . or one with the fox & the other with the hounds. Both seem to be on the side that fits the occasion so both real politicians. That's where I see the common bond. To bad about the tea but that was out of the USA's control.Just because we wouldn't give the UK navy slave labor by letting them conscript US citizens off ships.
  9. I'm not sure how much the compression programs compress dial-up data. That could be the reason for a faster speed than the 53.3kbps. I think the acceleration programs use some form of compression to get the faster speed. I've wondered if a zip file of some kind could be use to send all dial-up data. With a fast computer to unzip the received files & create zip files from data being sent automatically that might give some speed gain to dial-up.Since they can't allow greater than 53.3 & maintain voice quality then something like that could give more speed.
  10. You can select no page file in Vista.I do this about once a week just to clear the page file. Then I go back to manage custom size.I have been usin the recommended min & max at the bottom of that window. So far no problems with doing it that way.
  11. In other words Brown is talking out both sides of his mouth or two-faced,That makes him a politician he should fit right in with Bush, I don't think there will be much of a separation if the Revolution or War of 1812 didn't separate the USA & UK I doubt if a couple of two-faced politicians will. We do have a couple of WW's as allies as well as in other fights they don't want to call wars.
  12. I think it is an American expression.Without T's I would have to go bareback.
  13. Thanks FallowEarth I had used that test before.I reads the receive window but not the send window. I think on XP most of these tests read the TcpWindowSize this is in the registry at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetServicesTcpipParameters They don't detect the real setting DefaultReceiveWindow in the registry at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetServicesAFDParameters Vista doesn't have either of these settings in the registry & when Cablenut puts them in they have no effect. This link http://www.testmy.net/t-18907.msg214387#msg214387 said that the netsh int tcp set global commands could be used & Cablenut would set the DefaultSendWindow I tried this & I couldn't tell it made any difference in upload speed even with some ridiculous settings.I just wanted to find a test that would detect the send window to see what Vista was really setting it at.Hope that explains it.I'm just trying to find a way to tweak Vista with some XP settings but it resists this.
  14. Here are some Run commands some work for XP & some are for Vista .Some do not work in Vista Home or Home Premium. [table][tr][td] To Access
  15. There is a freeware DVD compresser that might help you.I haven't used it for game files since I don't have any but it compresses DVD files from movie DVDs.It takes 3 different programs of freeware to compress a movie. The freeware has to change it to an .iso file for the burner to work. With shareware 2 programs.I guess this might work for games. This program does not decrypt so you may need a decrypter program. Anyway the program is DVD Shrink 3.2.0.15 at least those are the numbers from mine there might be an updated version.
  16. Mine may have already been formated NTFS since it required no formatting.I agree on this.My old 98se is formatted FAT32 & the flashdrive has no problem transfering files from my Vista to it.Usually pics or .txt files. I tried it in a freinds 98se computer & since it was not upgraded to USB 2.0 it would not detect the drive. This fixed my 98se when it would not detect the flash drive. nusb31e.exe Link to download site http://www.technical-assistance.co.uk/kb/usbmsd98.php I think other sites have it too if you want another site. I had already installed some newer & matched ASPI files & these may have also helped the detection. No way to know since they were installed before I got the new flashdrive.
  17. I haven't tried these but I think you will need to DL something simular to this. http://radialfx.wincustomize.com/skins.aspx?skinid=1775&libid=25 Your Vista also needs to be Aero capable too I think.I am not using Aero on my Vista.
  18. I have a Sandisk Cruzer 2GB with ReadyBoost I just copyed the files it had for other programs on it into a folder & put it in Documents .Incase I ever needed them. Then I deleted everything.I did not format it it still works when plugged in even the ReadyBoost. This freed up about another 1/8th gig. I really didn't notice the ReadyBoost feature improved Vista any so I usually don't use the flashdrive for that. The only time you might have a problem in Windows 98se & older won't detect the flash drive. One reason is those OS's use USB 1.0 & newer uses USB 2.0 . I found a fix for that on the web but it should be used with caution .The reason it wants you to uninstall any other USB program on your PC if possible. I used it on my old computer with 98SE & it now detects the drive with no problem.
  19. Frankydp if you have XP or earlier Cablenut does a good job of making the registry entries for you .If you select show paths in CN options it shows you where the registry setting goes. This will work even if you don't make any settings in CN.If you want to make them manually or research them first. Search some of VanBurens posts on AFD parameters & recieve & send windows in XP. If you have Vista CN is pretty much useless.
  20. I don't think the 53.3Kbps is set by the modem but by the phone company. They are required by the FCC to do this.Mostly because higher speeds from dial-up in the frequency range dial-up works in interferes with voice quality. If not for this a new type dial up modem(not currently manufactured ) could do DSL speed but the telephone users on the line would hear a high pitched squeal on their telephones. This would not be just on the modem users line. Then multiply that by all the dial-up modems & you would not be able to communicate on or to a land line. The different frequency DSL uses is the reason it can get the speed it does over the same phone line.It is also why you can use DSL & the phone at the same time. That's my understanding anyway.
  21. It can be your OS.I found in Vista a lot is automatic & setting a RWIN like in XP has no effect.
  22. I still would like an expert to come up with some settings for the netsh int.I think this is the way to tweak Vista for better performance speed wise. Here's a tweak some might need: This is for those using the Windows Firewall. If you use some other firewall then you need to find it's setting to allow ICMP Echo Request .& have already disabled Windows Firewall. How to become pingable: For Windows Vista follow these steps: 1.From the Start menu choose the Control Panel I prefer "Classic View" you can temporarily enable it to make the changes. 2.Choose Administrative Tools 3.Choose Windows Firewall with Advanced Security 4.Click on Inbound Rules then right click on it and choose New Rule 5.Click on the Custom radio button and click Next 6.Click on All programs radio button and click Next 7.Click Protocol & Ports 8.Set the Protocol Type to ICMPv4 and click the Customize button 9.Select Specific ICMP types, enable Echo Request and click on the OK button 10.Click on the Next button in the Protocol & Ports window 11.Under Steps: with Scope highlighted. Verify if Any IP addresses is selected two times and click on the Next button 12.Verify if the Allow the connection radio button is selected and click Next 13.Verify that all three rules are enabled and click Next 14.Specify a Name I use:"Allow ICMP Echo Request" click Finish 15.Verify if this new rule now is Enabled and close all open windows 16.I'm not sure you need to restart I did just to make sure the rule was fully in my OS. 17.If you only want to be pingable temporarily then follow steps 1 through 4 except for right clicking & choosing a New Rule. Then highlight the Allow ICMP Echo Request rule you created above from the right panelchoose Delete,
  23. I think you need to read your lease. It will probably say all such repairs are to go through the building suprintendent even if you are willing to hire a professional electrician & pay for it yourself.Even if you get permission get it in writing . You could probably check a few things yourself if you know what you are doing just don't tell the super.Turn off the circuit breaker to the closest plugin. You need to have a multimeter(A cheap Walmart one will do.) remove the plugin plate, then the plugin.I think you will find an electric cable with 3 wires.A white wire(common).a black wire (hot) & a ground wire.It probably won't be insulated(with plastic).I bet they just used the cheap ungrounded plugin & a ground wire is actually available. If this is what you find set the multimeter to ohms to check continuity between the white wire & the ground wire if it has continuity then you have a ground wire. You just need to get the super to install the correct plugins(don't tell him you know the ground wire is there. If you are more experienced then turn the current back on & check the voltage between the black & white wire setting the multimeter to read AC current. It should be between 115 &125V. Then check between the black wire & the ground wire it should read the same. If you only have 2 wire electric cable you are out of luck.Unless the building is really old I can't imagine it has only 2 wire.If it does it is probably a building code violation & should be reported to code enforcement. This can usually be done anomously.
  24. I found this site looking for some Vista tweaks. Search led me to this topic http://www.testmy.net/t-18907.msg214387#msg214387 It was locked so I'm starting a topic .I hope this is the correct way to do it.I've used Cablenut in other Windows OS's & it worked.I believe the Vista TCP/IP stack is supposed to be different than even XP.I don't believe the place Cablenut puts the DefaultSendWindow in the registry at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetServicesAFDParameters changes the Vista Send Window.I haven't seen any speed increase or decrease I think it just isn't recognized as a valid registry setting. If anyone knows a test that shows that Cablenut is adjusting the send window I would like to take it. Maybe someone can set me strait on this with Vista Since my Vista has 4 CurrentControlSet's in the registry I think it takes 4 restarts to get a new registry setting in all of them.I know one of them is for "Last known good start". The Web100 based Network Diagnostic Tool (NDT) http://nitro.ucsc.edu/ might I'm just not sure what that test calls the Send Window. Here are some things I have found for Vista:( They are made in the command prompt & Run as administrator) netsh int tcp show global(This one shows the current settings) netsh int tcp set global ? (This will list the setting options) netsh int tcp set global autotuninglevel=normal (This is an example ) The one below is supposed to change the MTU if necessary but I think PMTU discovery will override it. netsh interface ipv4 set subinterface "Local Area Connection" mtu=1500 store=persistent This one is interesting. netsh interface ipv4 set ? The following commands are available: Commands in this context: set address - Sets the IP address or default gatewa set compartment - Modifies compartment configuration p set dnsserver - Sets DNS server mode and addresses. set dynamicportrange - Modifies the range of ports use ent. set global - Modifies global configuration general set interface - Modifies interface configuration para set neighbors - Sets a neighbor address. set route - Modifies route parameters. set subinterface - Modifies subinterface configuration set winsserver - Sets WINS server mode and addresses These are the settings for address .You can do the same for each with the ? netsh interface ipv4 set address ? Usage: set address [name=]<string> [[source=]dhcp|static] [[address=]<IPv4 address>[/<integer>] [[mask=]<IPv4 mask>] [[gateway=]<IPv4 address>|none [gwmetric=]<integer>] [[type=]unicast|anycast] [[subinterface=]<string>] [[store=]active|persistent] Parameters: Tag Value name - Interface name or index. source - One of the following values: dhcp: Enables DHCP for configuring IP addresses for the specified interface. static: Disables DHCP for configuring IP addresses fo the specified interface. address - IPv4 address to add or modify, optionally followed by the subnet prefix length. mask - The IP subnet mask for the specified IP address. gateway - One of the following values: <IPv4 address>: A specific default gateway for the static IP address you are setting. none: No default gateways are set. This is the defau gwmetric - The metric for the default gateway. This field should be set only if gateway is specified. type - One of the following values: unicast: Marks the address as a unicast address. This is the default. anycast: Marks the address as an anycast address. subinterface - LUID of the subinterface on which the default gateway exists. This parameter is only needed on interfaces with multiple subinterfaces. store - One of the following values: active: Set only lasts until next boot. persistent: Set is persistent. This is the default. Remarks: Used to enabled or disable DHCP for IP address configuration. Also removes any previous static IP addresses and default gateways and can add a new static IP address and default gateway. I would like to see an expert go through them all & come up with some tweaks.
