  1. after some more research i found out my motherboard uses a different realtek driver along with an nvidia package. finally got it working, thanks for your suggestions!
  2. hmm, i installed a bunch of nvidia drivers according to my mobo, but the sound still doesn't work.
  3. ah, someone sent me a nifty program CPU-Z. i have an NVIDIA nForce 590 SLI motherboard. the computer is a custom build. thanks for the help!
  4. Hello, I recently reformatted my computer and I'm missing a bunch of drivers, like my sound card driver ( i never bought a sound card, i think it came with my motherboard, yet i have no idea what model the motherboard is ) and i can't play music. is there a FREE program or place that can scan my computer for all the driver updates? i did a web search but found nothing but programs trying to sell themselves.
  5. damn. i can't find my windows XP cd to reformat. this sucks.
  6. after a few restarts it loaded up like normal but then froze a few times. someone advised me that since my hard drive is still working, then my OS is corrupted and to reformat. i also can't have the DX10 driver, i just had the latest ATI drivers and thought it was DX10.. i'm using windows xp.
  7. well, i downloaded the drivers you gave me, and now the computer don't work lol. i'm on my laptop now.. when i restarted my computer it said something like IDE drive failure, and then it kept trying to load some sort of NVIDIA thing and it kept failing. it never got to windows, now the computer says DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISC AND PRESS ENTER omgwtfbbq! what do i dO?
  8. i recently downloaded a directx10 video driver. come to think of it, that's just about the same time the problem started.
  9. i used a system restore and it was cool for a week but then froze again. i think it might be a hardware problem.
  10. i have just used a system restore to a few months back, before i started having the problems. if it still persists, then i will be 100% sure that it's a hardware problem.
  11. but i'm not sure what it is. my computer is freezing up randomly, but not a complete freeze. first the program i'm running at athe time will freeze, either my browser, adobe photoshop, whatever. then when i minimize that and try to open something else, the rest freezes, ctrl alt delete does nothing and i end up having to reboot. sometimes it freezes twice in a row within 10 minutes, other times it freezes twice a week. people have told me it could be my video card, but i'm not sure how to test the video card. i can't take it out because my monitor plugs into my video card. other people have told me it could be the RAM or the hard drive, or even the processor. i'm just looking for another professional opinion before i try to play around with it. i think i may have damaged something when i messed with my video card a few months back. i got shocked a few times because i didn't ground myself properly
  12. thank you everyone for your help! i ran all my virus scans in safe mode, and even though they found nothing it has not frozen up since. i'll keep you guys updated if it happens again.
  13. my god, svchost.exe is copying itself like crazy, now there's 6! oh noes, what do i do?!
  14. i also had 3 different CLI.exe's running, and i have 4 svchost.exe's running..
  15. once again i am in need of guidance. i think i've been infected with a virus, because my computer has been randomly freezing up on me. i've run AVAST! AD-AWARE SPYBOT multiple times and one of them deleted a trojan, but the problem still persists. i opened up my list of processes and started googling them one by one, and noticed that i had three instances of svchost.exe running...i thought this was kind of suspicious, so i shut down a few of them. apparently it's a critical system process and it gave me a 30 second countdown and restarted my computer, lol. i'm running windows xp professional. anyone have any ideas?
  16. i got it to boot again after pushing all the plugs and such in..something must be coming loose a lot.
  17. now it won't boot again. it flashes CO, 23, 45 over and over.
