  1. i got it to boot, but i found out that the USB and network ports on my motherboard are dying..i'm going to try and get a network card and external USB card and see if i can run it without replacing the motherboard completely
  2. now the damn thing won't even start up. the little green numbers are flashing randomly and its not booting up. *cry*
  3. the first time it happened, that fixed the problem. but upon the next reboot, the USB that worked did not. also, one time none of the USB or the ethernet slot ( you know it lights up blue when plugged in?) worked. for now it works, but i really don't like the prospect of replacing my motherboard.
  4. is there a way to repair or get it repaired if the problem persists?
  5. or handicapped it, or made it retarded. here's what happened. my video card fan started making an annoying noise a few months after i put it in, so i finally got around to fixing the noise yesterday. after some inspection i noticed the source of the noise was that the fan blades were scraping against some of the plasting casing. so, i took apart the video card and removed the fan blades, got out the dremel and sanded the blades down. it worked, there's no more noise, however... now my computer has a hard time recognizing my mouse when i turn it on. i have to unplug and replug in the USB port and sometimes it will light up for a second but then die again. usually when i turn off the computer a second time and continue the same process, it will eventually notice the USB is plugged in and work. the only thing i can think of is that i tugged a little hard at the motherboard to get the video card out. does anyone know what would cause something like this? this is the first computer i bought all the pieces for and put together ( with help lol ).
  6. never mind, problem solved. i hooked up another monitor and it worked.
  7. i'm trying to fix a computer that does not turn on. it has power, the green light on the monitor shows up, but the screen stays black. the computer fan does not turn on, however i can hear things beeping and clicking around inside like it's trying to work. i haven't been able to get the side panel off yet, it's jammed for some reason. does anyone know what would cause this problem?
  8. i think i'm in the right menu in the Control Panel, and this is what the startup looks like..i dont want to mess with it without knowing what to type in though [boot loader] timeout=30 default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)WINDOWS [operating systems] multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect
  9. this is the first computer i put together and i don't know if it's software or hardware problems. its started to act wierd in Firefox, for example i started this thread and it automatically went 'back' to the previous page and i had to click again to start the thread.... on my motherboard there is a green light that usually says FF, my monitor went black and the green FF started showing a bunch of random numbers. then it went back to the startup after a minute and gave me this message Floppy Disk Fail(40) warning! Previous System POST failed-Reverting to Safe settings Please adjust BIOS settings in setup and reboot HELP!
  10. i have an HP, i went to their website and followed what instructions they gave. It just didn't work lol. friggin HP..i'm never buying one ever again
  11. i caught some crazy trojan virus. it had modified the system restore on my computer, graying out all of the buttons i needed to press. i re-installed windows with a windows CD thinking it would erase my drive, but all it did was install it on a seperate drive, so now i have the option to choose which one to start up on. so basically i have 60 Gigs of potentially contaminated information just sitting there.
  12. i want to do a total destructive format of myC:drive..i don't have a floppy drive. when i go into DOS mode i go to the drive and i type the command 'format c' , and it pauses like the command has been entered, but it doesn't do anything. is there any way for me to do this?
  13. I don't believe any 'ethical' arguement the government has. The only reason they are against it, is because it's not getting them any money/power.
  14. are there any good websites out there that will teach me everything from the basics to the advanced stages of HTML and web site production? i'm looking for a free website, anyone know of any good ones?
