  2. freezes before i can get into recovery console but as soon as i get it that far will do for sure. and no such thing as buggin when the person is asking for help
  3. I try differant ram. tryed differant power supply. i am in process of downloading the ultimate boot disc will give that a shot but will take awhile to download. the pc freezes when the little running bar on the bottom is runnin another weird thing is that it wont post if i take out the ram i have to mess with it for awhile. screen stays black no beep no anything. Happened to me 3 times now when changing up parts but somehow i get it back to posting and having a image on screen.
  4. hmmm Left it in bios and it froze after a few min. Maken me think its a chipset or the cpu getting too hot.
  5. PhoenixBIOS BIOS Version: 83.09 KBC Version: 6810
  6. I can get into the bios before boot but I do not think this bios has info on temp its a very plain crapo bios
  7. Tryed ram seems good to me. Trying to boot from vista cd... freezes with green bar at the bottom as well after it loads the files. I am noticing that the hot air coming out of the pc is very warm for it only being on for 1-2 min at a time. I am begining to wonder maybe just maybe if the cpu is getting too hot and needs new thermal paste. as for recovery console i would love to try it if i could just get to it
  8. after more tests on it i decided to try an xp cd in it jsut to see if it would boot off of it. froze when it says setup is starting windows.
  9. also did a motherboard tester on it and throws no codes.
  10. Well the person said that the it was not reading the OS. That was the message she saw i never saw. I received it and the screen would not even turn on. I messed with it for about an hour and somehow i got the screen to turn on, but i am not getting the message she got. I can get it to the screen thats black with the green bar at the bottom and the bar freezes after going across a few times. Try to boot into safe mode and it freezes before it gets there. Was thinking try a restore or a fix with the ultimate disc but not sure if that will work on vista basic. its a gateway ML3109 laptop
  11. Is it possible to fix a non booting vista basic with a vista ultimate cd?
  12. After tons of research and countless amounts of downloads i have found a program that works for vista to reset or change the password. Thank you to all who have posted. I will not post how i did this unless an admin asks me to do so. I do not want to break any rules nor go through the policy's set on this forum. You guys are great always a fast reply to my weird questions i ask
  13. lol Alucard that was pretty neat Everything i encounter requires a cd though this having no cd drive makes it a little tougher then that.
  14. Thanks for the advice. I am not sure about this it says to burn a cd and the pc it needs to go on cant be logged into at all and has no cd drive. Will it work on a usb drive? Any advice on maybe tryn to get linux to boot from a usb drive there is many portable choices. I was looking at this. http://www.pendrivelinux.com/ Due to my very slow internet speed it will take me years to try them out and with little linux knowlage i have no clue on what one to get. Any advice appreciated.
  15. I do alot of small side jobs for people with pc trouble. I am seriously scratching my head on this one. Friends teenage son has a HP Mini with vista on it. He has forgotten his password. I thought it had xp on it so i said i could fix (oops) Not as familiar with vista i am coming into problems fixing this. First problem is only user available is him as admin Second problem is no cd drive on a mini.... booo Third problem i have no external cd drive I do have usb flash drives and external drives. Also have a usb floppy drive. Any suggestions on how to get the OS to fully load without password?
  16. Thank you this information has been very helpful and clear.
  17. I am looking at 2 video cards and come to end up scratching my head. I am not sure what card is better. One is 1 gig with a memory clock of 875 and one is 512 with a memory clock of 2000. I would think that the more memory the card has it would be better. When i read comments from other people not on the site i am buying from they are saying that the faster the memory clock the better. Sounds reasonable but i cant get the fact out of my head that 1 gig sounds better. question is what one is better? cards in question are these 2 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102842 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102820 Another thing is can a motherboard thats a 939 socket even read a 2000 mem clock?
  18. When i was on that kind of internet i had to log into the website for the company and check out how much i had used. The charts where not very accurate but it gave me a rough idea.
  19. Case is allways open. I hvae removed the video card and tryed to fix. ram hdd vid card and psu have all been tested and known to work. The mouse and keyboard get dissconected and reconnected everytime i try to adjust anything they are also tested and fully working. The funny thing is i have a working A drive and thats what error i am getting. I do not fully understand how to do anything to it because it will not get past post or even into bios. I cannot boot to cd get into bios or for the fact do anything. If the flash protect jumper is moved the pc will not even light up or fan move or anything no power will go through it. Same results as the reset cmos does. I can try to do the hot flash but to be honest i do not understand the instructions fully. I will need to follow the links and get a better handle of it in my mind.
  20. I dont think it is possible to flash bios because i cant even get into the bios let alone do anything to it at all. It simply says bios checksome rom error no A drive then beeps like crazy continous. I try reseting the bios by jumper and it will not power on at all. I try to set bios flash protect will not boot at all.
  21. got a new battery in still nothing tryn to find jumper to reset cmos dont got a manuel :/ i see a place to enable bios flash on a jumper on mobo when enabled power will not come on at all
  22. Yes i am directly connected now cause it wont boot both ways.
  23. I installed the os with it directly plugged in. Hard to believe but i am having problems getting the battery out of the motherboard. Has some little metal piece holding it in. Is there a way to set a jumper to reset the bios? Or a way to reset the bios without being able to get into it?
  24. Sorry it took so long to get back to this i have been swamped at work. Pretty much this is a motherboard that is about 2 years old. Not as in manufactured as in purchused new along with cpu athlon 2800+ I had it as a pc that would be able to turn on without any keyboard or mouse and be accesed remotely. It has a ECS motherboard in it. Two gigs of tested ram. 1 hard drive and i have tryed 3 now that are known working drives. Last time i flashed the bios on this same kind of board it took it down to 800Mhz for the cpu speed and this is scary to me to try that again with this board. I think i have an extra battery laying around in another board i will give that a try. Motherboard: ECS KM400-M2 rev 3.0c OS: Xp pro corp sp2 Ram: 2 gig 2700 (tested) PSU: 500watt (tested) CPU: Athlon 2800+
  25. I have seen a few cases ware if the screen goes black without saying any messages and reboots it was due to a faulty power supply not giving a steady voltage out. That would be my guess. In my experience when the ram goes bad it will not boot up, and when the hard drive has a bas sector it will just freeze but stay on. Not saying that that is not the problem just stating what i have come across in fixing computers.
