  1. Sorry Shug...didn't know that I did, shoot me a pm and tell me what I said in my post, I can't remember. Thanks!
  2. hehe I have a "friend" who does the same thing
  3. I dunno what he means either.
  4. Do not discuss any copyrighted material. Shug7272
  5. I call tech support because I'm getting 20%+ packet loss with pings to google, yahoo, and so on. They suggest I try a windows tweak. Comcast is craptastic in my book.
  6. Have you had anyone from comcast come out and take a look? I was having a very similar problem to what your describing. Paying for 8, only getting around 6. Turns out 2 ports were bad on the pole. They replaced those, and bam! 8 everytime.
  7. And you feel the need to broadcast that you are going to receive cable internet illegally, laughing about it.
  8. How do you get a Gmail account? I've checked out Google's site, and it says they're only offering them on a limited basis.
  9. Couldn't have done it without you guys Here's my upload...it isn't over the cap but I'm happy with it. :::.. 10. Ok the comcast guy just left again. Turns out 2 out of the 4 ports at the pole were bad. They replaced one but have to replace the other tomorrow. So far my speed is much improved. :::.. 11. Nope she said they were coming out on Tuesday to do that. I'm hoping that's the problem. I'm just ready to start getting what I've been paying for.
  12. I looked again. Still can't find anything that might be doing what you're describing. I'll keep looking, but I'm hoping its a problem with the cable lines. After all, the comcast tech said the problem was before it even gets to my modem.
  13. 1. Sometimes download tests on Testmy.net have hanged. If by hanging up you mean it will start the percentage bar, and then pause at say 18% for a second or two and then continue on. And yes the readings were lower if the test did pause. 2. I do have XP. And I have read that post, I wasn't able to find anything that would affect my performance though. (CCleaner helps fix those problems) 3. Here is a paste of my settings. 14. Tier 2 woman said "Crap, your connection is horrible". I said "Thanks, I know". Anywho they're going to send someone else out on Tuesday. Said they would probably replace the cable lines in the house. House is only 6 years old, but they said sometimes the contractors use the cheapest of the cheap. So we'll see how that goes. She said the problem is packet loss before it even gets to the modem. So with that conclusion, I guess I can quit trying to fix it through tweaks
  15. Oooh. I feel special. Called Comcast, now I'm hold for the elusive Tier 2 Technician. We'll see how this goes.

I've had a couple of tests get to 8.0 and then I have some tests that don't get out of the 5's. Why am I seeing the inconsistency? Here's my speakeasy results from the Atlanta server (I'm in Nashville). Download : 7744Kbps Upload: 647Kbps
  19. Thanks Van Buren...I'll give it a shot and post my new results now.
  20. Can you explain what those numbers at http://192.168.100.1/signal.html mean? Here are mine. 21. Ok. Comcast man just left. He checked the box outside, there was an old splitter on there which he replaced with a new one, and the entire box was soaking wet. The cables that he replaced had rust in them. He told me to wait about an hour before testing it (he was going to call comcast and have them do some things first) then try it. I'll post the results in an hour. I hope this fixes it!
  22. Thanks for all your help by the way Elite.Pete. I'll post my results of the Comcast man's visit tomorrow after he leaves.
  23. Oh well I've got one more question too. We just moved in June to the new house we're in now. I have never had Comcast come out to this house before, I set the internet up myself. I know there is a box outside on the side of the house that controls the frequencies of the different cable lines coming into the house, and I think the cable modem is supposed to be on the highest frequencies. So what do the different frequencies mean? And how big of a difference will it make for my cable modem to be on the higher frequency?
  24. He'll be here Sunday morning...between 8 and 12
