spudler_t got a reaction from CA3LE in Xfinity 1200/200 speed tier showing 1200/64 Bad Gateway?
-Prior to my internet speed was great, like 1200-1400 Mbps Down and 200+ Mbps upload but after that it drastically dropped Not the Download it is the same or close to it but the upload now appears to max out around 64Mbps. Nothing has changed as far as my setup, my computer, my Ethernet cable. ( I run hardwired from my 2.5 Gbps Network card to the Xfinity 2.5 Gbps ethernet connection on the gateway.
As far as iRacing goes I am absolutely Steller there I have only had connection issues back when Xfinity woudl for some reason restart my gateway at like 03:15 sat morning about 45 min after my weekly NIS race would start, is early but have between 200-400 drivers racing at that time (In Different sessions of course)
After my 5th contact with Xfinity and basically explaining if this keeps happening I will have to end using their service and find something else. It was fixed right then never to happen again.
I noticed again when looking at the specs in the URL that something is not working correct in the gateway as my Ipv6 is not connected, my 4 Upstream channels only have 2 Showing as well as my 32 downstream channels are down a few as well and when I did a hard reboot then no upload channels were showing up and only 8 downstream ones.
To me that is obviously a issue with the Gateway or Xfinity Software.

spudler_t got a reaction from ThylacineWings in Im lost here with new test and results
I do not know if I am getting Old is what is causing me to be so lost here (I know last 2 years I get frustrated easier and have a harder time learning new tech) but I have no idea if my results are in line with what I normally have been getting or if it has slowed down ( I think my download has again dropped down to about 1/2 the speed it was but ??) Hopefully as I use this ill start to figure it out
>>A great example of my acquired learning disability , my neighbors had a Galaxy Note 20 Ultra 5G was told it had a bad screen and was $400 to fix. They gave it to me and said if I can fix it I can keep it (as they make I Fix It kits) I fixed it though the screen was perfect it was some Software bug (So screen would not display anything) that took me 72 hours to figure out and get the screen to display then do a complete reset. It has not had an Issue since but am having a hell of a time figuring out how to operate the dang thing, Two days to figure out how to install a app so I can listen to music without ads blocking my ability to start or stop replay LOL <<
Example shows my speed to figure out how to fix things is about 1/4 speed I used to be and due to me using up all my patience when I was younger dealing with stupid people I no longer have any left.

spudler_t reacted to CA3LE in Don't trust, verify. I'm giving you ways to verify.
My beta gives anyone the ability to run TMN on any computer they'd like. Run it locally on a Docker images I've prepared for you or install it on any web sever, with or without SSL. It only takes 2 files, a total of 1800 bytes of code on your end. What speed will you see between two wired 1 GbE? Exactly what you'd expect to see, watch for yourself.
tmn-on-my-server.mp4
The Mac and Windows machines are fairly distant, non-direct routes. The connection traverses 2 switches, then the router, then another switch also adding in about 100 ft of cable before it arrives. Not lab conditions, I wanted all of those real world variables.
If you inspect I think you'll agree, TMN's results are pretty exact.
tl&dr
So average 916 Mbps | 904 Mbps. Adding 6% network overhead you get to 971 Mbps | 958 Mbps. Which is right in line with what we see coming across the interface in reality.
I did the same LAN testing when developing the current version (v18) you're using now, always do. But now I'm giving the ability to do it yourself, super quick. ... I've also done that before but not like this. This is very different. Cut and paste a few commands into Terminal or PowerShell and you're running local tests on all your devices in a few seconds. You can also audit all of the code and understand the entire container in just a few seconds.
Pretty excited to share that with you all. Curious how people will use it.

spudler_t got a reaction from CA3LE in Have the Xfinity 1200/40 Speed tier but dropping frames while streaming
Thanks ya I was thinking something was not right with it dropping frames when i was only running at 8,000 kbps.
Initially I was thinking Xfinity was doing something to limit me, then by accident I seen the GameFirst VI was setting the OBS stream section to low.
Once I changed that I was easily able to stream at 10,000 kbps
I just streamed a iRacing ARCA race at Indy RC and had no problems so all seems to work great.
Funny when you set things correctly how nice they work LOL

spudler_t got a reaction from CA3LE in Have the Xfinity 1200/40 Speed tier but dropping frames while streaming
I am not sure if I messed up the designation between B and b (Bits and Bytes). I did find the problem and I was shocked to be honest, my ASUS Strix Z-490 E Gaming MB has VI and I found it had the OBS Streaming set to Low which I guess was causing all the problems. I changed that setting to extreme (which is what iRacing is set at)
I set the OBS to 10000 kbps and since then I have not had a single issue of dropped anything and am in the bitrate suggested for 3440x1440
If anything changes or I find I start getting more dropped frames I will update this thread

spudler_t got a reaction from CA3LE in Have the Xfinity 1200/40 Speed tier but dropping frames while streaming
I have no Missed frames from rendering, Skipped frames from Encoding but when I stream at 8000kb/s or higher (or try to anyway) I start getting a huge amount of Dropped frames (Network)
I may be confused but isn't 1200/40 equivalent to 120000/40000 in kb/s??
If so I would think that streaming at 8000 kb/s should be a non issue it is 1/5 max upload and I seen where it is mentioned you should be able to set your stream bitrate to easily 50-75% of your upload speed Of course taking into account if you have other traffic uploading as well which I only have iracing running so do not think I should have issues with my settings
I am trying to upload higher quality iRacing streams (current resolution is 3440X1440 85 Hz (Fps)

1996 is when it all started by the way. Wish I still owned the old domain name, swapped it out in 2001 and then let the old one expire on accident.
Guys, I've been building this 27 years! It's still only 2% of the vision, which continues to evolve over time.
Hopefully the new version gets in front of even more eyes and with the new visuals more people understand what we're trying to show them here.

spudler_t got a reaction from CA3LE in Is there any Issues with Testmy.net servers as far as speed testing?
Ill run some more of the multithread tests, I know your tests are good and your results are what I used on many occasions to make my point in the past to Xfinity (Comcast) that the problem I was having was on their end not my equipment nor something to be expected or normal Since I have the ability to bring up past results and can show a history of multiple test results and when exactly the problem (Usually drop in Download speed) Started.
That was why I was concerned and posted on here as I was puzzled as to what had happened.
I will have to look at my result history to see how many tests I did prior to installing the XB8 Gateway as far as when I installed it I got it on Sunday 7-17-22 somewhere around 18:15 PDT I had some issues getting it provisioned the Customer service person was confused and did not speak very good English so it was hard to explain why I was calling so I think it took an hour or so to finally get it connected.
One thing I did do (By Accident to be honest) was update a couple of my programs that I use in iRacing while the Task manager was open on my second monitor and I seen it downloaded the file at 1.2 Gbps but it only took it about 10 seconds max I just got lucky to look at the monitor while it was downloading.

spudler_t got a reaction from Baxter in Ha HA LMAO here at Xfinity speed test
The golden Site Xfinity always tells you to use to test internet speed keeps saying Ooops something went wrong, More like oops our Lie we tried to feed you is so obvious we had to crash the test. They always show me as getting 950Mbps or above and I know that is Pure Pooo. I like to test here and then there just to document how much they try to BS people.

spudler_t got a reaction from CA3LE in iRacing, New Broadcasters LSRTV, More coverage
Ya I seen the way did not do a very good job of showing my car or the Logos on it, Though I guess I can expect that as I have missed some of the cup races , the truck though I have not missed any.
I'm sorry I thought I posted my car is the #333
I'm also the #333 in truck.
It is kinda Ironic how I had to give up positions as to not wreck the #40 car 5-6 different times for his driving tactics then he ends up winning and I get 7th.
Thing is that kind of stuff is what i'll remember next time and maybe won't be so giving, It just takes a Minor bump at Corner entrance to cause the car in front to push wide allowing to to easily pass underneath without wrecking them.
Ill work on getting some better pics, Just realized I usually save the replays and upload to you tube but rarely get a 360° set of pictures of car or truck sitting still.

spudler_t got a reaction from CA3LE in iRacing, New Broadcasters LSRTV, More coverage
So some know I run 2 cars in a League and have TMN Logos on them as what a better place to spread the word then some place where your internet speed and latency is equal if not more important to success.
Our league Broadcasted our races last year on a smaller company which this year purchased the rites and merged with two huge broadcasting companies so now on Mondays and Thursdays were on on LSRTV which is livesimracing.com.
I do not get anything from this but a cool truck and cup looking car and just thought I would remind everyone in case anyone is interested in watching Sim racing some time.
I will update this post prior to the Monday race and Thursday race at Milwaukie Speedway with the links
One last sort a off topic question?? I see I started using TMN back in 2009 ( I thought it was earlier could be wrong) When did TMN officially start anyway For some reason I was thinking 2001-2003 possibly no idea where I came up with that year just was in my head.

spudler_t got a reaction from CA3LE in Internet Speed drop since Stay at home ordered?
But still... you're getting 50% of that. Over the years I've stated in general that you should get at least 80% before complaining. Which is 20/2.4 Mbps... right about where your speed was before.
Interesting how much I have forgotten over the years I remember this you said oMG back when I started using Testmy.net.
SO even when I was at my best connections (pre Pandemic) I was just hovering around the 78-80% range.
What IRKS me most is the blatant way Xfinity, and im sure others to push their speed tests and recommend you test to the closest server to your location (Then try to blame the suns position, the Ethernet cable, my Gaming desktop with mega RAM, best NIC must be the problem I was so mad on time I asked the tech if next he was going to say since my cat was orangish colored that was the problem)as network traffic over distance will degrade or (Turn SLUG-ISH) When we all know every thing we search for download, stream, etc. is always located as close to your location as possible correct?
I mean I must of been insane thinking I needed good speed and low latency to the servers in Boston since they are far from me
I am being super sarcastic BTW to those who may not realize this

spudler_t reacted to CA3LE in Who testmy.net is
I'll work on a page that cites examples for you. They're here, just not compiled nicely for you.
I just go off of what many people tell me. There are hundreds of stories (just that I've heard) of people who test perfectly fine using other speed tests and testmy.net reports the correct... much lower number. They email me, often by starting out BLAMING testmy.net. I tell them to trust the results and they usually email me back later, "testmy.net was right." I get blamed whenever someone is slow. The other speed tests misrepresent the numbers so people think I'M the one who's wrong because I'm the outlier. Just because the majority comes to the same answer doesn't mean they do it right. --- testmy.net is often an outlier because it's a real test. And instead of focusing on what they're not doing right... how about we all just use TestMy.net and call it a day?!?! ?
I just posted one from the other day to a topic with some other examples I've shared in the past.
There are some in other topics in the FAQ / Ask TMN forum
When you're having issues and REALLY need testmy.net... that's when it works best and shows how it's truly proprietary. Why anyone uses anything other than TMN with evidence that the others fail when needed the most... makes no sense. Fact is, people just don't know.
I try not to be all in your face with the ads. Large portions of the site are purposely ad free (like the forum) and I'm also showing no ads to mobile users.

spudler_t got a reaction from tdawnaz in Someone tell me about the little black box that replaces my tower...
I think those are Nodes? I may have name wrong we had those at the fab shop i worked.
I think the server is the main system and those are just like access points instead of running multiple computers and connecting via LAN

spudler_t got a reaction from tdawnaz in Someone tell me about the little black box that replaces my tower...
oh ya tour right I remember that now it was just like you said , it was much smaller more like my Creative X-fi 5.0 Pro usb sound card about the size of 1-1/2 credit cards and 1/2 thick had the Monitor out, keyboard and mouse connection, this here is much larger,
Sorry to have be incorrect about your setup.

Awesome! Thank you for sharing.
Sweet, you swooped in to take 4th place.
I like the part after the race is over where you smash into the winner... coming from the wrong direction.

spudler_t got a reaction from Sean in Finally Got some great iRacing coverage
So last nights race at ISM in my league was awesome, got some great coverage and mentioning of the Testmy.net site.
No I am not officially sponsored by the site, but due to the great tools and time I have been a a member of Testmy.net and watched the site expand I could think of no better way to say thanks not to mention a better tool for those who run the Simulation as it needs great internet reliability and there is none better to use to ensure you are in top shape.
I added a link stating from where race starts, I hope you guys enjoy this and thank you for all the help you have provided to allow me to keep Xfinity honest and tools to know my internet is up to snuff.
