spudler_t got a reaction from LigmaBalls in Since 2001 5 years prior to Speedtest.net? HMMM???
I was looking to see when Testmy.net started as I Swear (Even though my profile says 2009) I came across this site approx Sept or Oct of 2001 or 2002. I lost my login info and think I had to start over in 2009 as I know I used the site in 2005 as I was always testing the Internet at a club I did music for .
Back to the Title, Being a site for 5+ Years prior to speedtest why do you think they have more visitors (or considered #1 Site to test)? I have my opinion.
Also I have yet to have a ISP ever tell me to use this site though have had them argue with me about the results until I show the history and when the speed dropped as well as consistency in the results
My Opinion, I think a lot of people do not like the facts or truth even if ignoring it is detrimental , Would rather have results that match what the ISP says and they pay, when they get the accurate results more than likely it is not what they want to or have seen, Plus when you go say something to say Xfinity or Other ISP's that you feel the sped is not what you pay for they want you to test where they know they will get a higher speed and it is hard to argue with that unless you have been doing this awhile and have had to deal with all the scripts they read that state it is on the customer end, I can list things till my KB wears out
Honestly I think the only times I knew for sure it had to be either a Xfinity issue (Or 1 time iRacing Server issue) was thanks to be able to test here and use my history or results to compare with.
Sadly until they make a set of test parameters/Rules as far as Internet Speed Testing a lot of people will be missing out on the bigger picture about their connection speed.
I am just thankful we have Testmy.net as a tool to use as well as all the Time and $$ CA3LE has spent on the site

Funny how you mentioned yo do not play games back in 2008 I was building the armor plating for the MRAP (Mine resistant Ambush Protected) Vehicles The same Tan 4X4 Ones we left in Afghanistan they have shown on the news Moving those plates by hand I ended up rupturing a disc in lower back and smashed a nerve disabling me so I was attempting to get a degree in Machine technology, doing CNC Programming on CNC Lathes and Mills but ended up realizing I could not stand for the 4+ Hours at a time needed to do that. anyway to make a Short story long I got a ASUS ROG G73 SW top of the line Gaming Laptop (Late 2010) yet never played a single game till 2019 when I came across iRacing LOL

This is cool, Ive been using or around Testmy.net for a long time, I assume my slower memory recall (Personal) Is due to getting older but it seems like back when I first started using The site I do not remember picking servers or maybe 2 or so been awhile
I have my PC 99% for iRacing and I have
ASUS STrix Z-490 E Gaming MB
i7-10700K 5.2Ghz All Core
32Gb Corsair 2600 DDR4
ROG Strix RTX 3060 Ti OC V2
Corsair 280MM AIO
Every item was either from iRacing driver sale or Ebay
The most shocking is the GPU it is a Diamond or a Winnining silon ticket
as it easily runs at 2100Mhz GPU with 18002Mhz Vram about a 35% boost over V1 cards In mAx power for sure

Well said.
TestMy.net started in 2001... but my first internet speed test became popular in 1996, on accident. Was pretty crazy trying to run it early on, not knowing anything. No real tools to even learn online yet either.
I hope one day more people find TestMy.net again. I'll just keep building.

spudler_t got a reaction from xs1 in Just found out my Xfinity plan is changed to 2000/300 Mbps What to expect??
I cannot recall what the realistic expected speed one should be expecting on a ISP Tier of 2000/300
As usual I did not hear about this other then coming across this information searching online about latest Xfinity Gateways etc. I guess this upgrade was implemented Some time in January of 2025 in my area
I think 90% of advertised speed was what would be expected or considered proper, now with the higher speeds ( The 90% I Think was back when speeds were like 1000/20 or so) the 10% would much greater amount lost IE 100/2 now it would be something like 200/30 or expected speed of 1800/270
IS this still valid with today's technology.

spudler_t got a reaction from CA3LE in Xfinity 1200/200 speed tier showing 1200/64 Bad Gateway?
well now it shows 2 download and 3 upload . LOL it has come issues.

spudler_t got a reaction from CA3LE in Xfinity 1200/200 speed tier showing 1200/64 Bad Gateway?
-Prior to my internet speed was great, like 1200-1400 Mbps Down and 200+ Mbps upload but after that it drastically dropped Not the Download it is the same or close to it but the upload now appears to max out around 64Mbps. Nothing has changed as far as my setup, my computer, my Ethernet cable. ( I run hardwired from my 2.5 Gbps Network card to the Xfinity 2.5 Gbps ethernet connection on the gateway.
As far as iRacing goes I am absolutely Steller there I have only had connection issues back when Xfinity woudl for some reason restart my gateway at like 03:15 sat morning about 45 min after my weekly NIS race would start, is early but have between 200-400 drivers racing at that time (In Different sessions of course)
After my 5th contact with Xfinity and basically explaining if this keeps happening I will have to end using their service and find something else. It was fixed right then never to happen again.
I noticed again when looking at the specs in the URL that something is not working correct in the gateway as my Ipv6 is not connected, my 4 Upstream channels only have 2 Showing as well as my 32 downstream channels are down a few as well and when I did a hard reboot then no upload channels were showing up and only 8 downstream ones.
To me that is obviously a issue with the Gateway or Xfinity Software.

spudler_t got a reaction from ThylacineWings in Im lost here with new test and results
I do not know if I am getting Old is what is causing me to be so lost here (I know last 2 years I get frustrated easier and have a harder time learning new tech) but I have no idea if my results are in line with what I normally have been getting or if it has slowed down ( I think my download has again dropped down to about 1/2 the speed it was but ??) Hopefully as I use this ill start to figure it out
>>A great example of my acquired learning disability , my neighbors had a Galaxy Note 20 Ultra 5G was told it had a bad screen and was $400 to fix. They gave it to me and said if I can fix it I can keep it (as they make I Fix It kits) I fixed it though the screen was perfect it was some Software bug (So screen would not display anything) that took me 72 hours to figure out and get the screen to display then do a complete reset. It has not had an Issue since but am having a hell of a time figuring out how to operate the dang thing, Two days to figure out how to install a app so I can listen to music without ads blocking my ability to start or stop replay LOL <<
Example shows my speed to figure out how to fix things is about 1/4 speed I used to be and due to me using up all my patience when I was younger dealing with stupid people I no longer have any left.

spudler_t got a reaction from matman in Beta Testers Welcome
I wanted to say Yes Definitely but i could only choose one LOL

spudler_t reacted to CA3LE in Don't trust, verify. I'm giving you ways to verify.
My beta gives anyone the ability to run TMN on any computer they'd like. Run it locally on a Docker images I've prepared for you or install it on any web sever, with or without SSL. It only takes 2 files, a total of 1800 bytes of code on your end. What speed will you see between two wired 1 GbE? Exactly what you'd expect to see, watch for yourself.
tmn-on-my-server.mp4
The Mac and Windows machines are fairly distant, non-direct routes. The connection traverses 2 switches, then the router, then another switch also adding in about 100 ft of cable before it arrives. Not lab conditions, I wanted all of those real world variables.
If you inspect I think you'll agree, TMN's results are pretty exact.
tl&dr
So average 916 Mbps | 904 Mbps. Adding 6% network overhead you get to 971 Mbps | 958 Mbps. Which is right in line with what we see coming across the interface in reality.
I did the same LAN testing when developing the current version (v18) you're using now, always do. But now I'm giving the ability to do it yourself, super quick. ... I've also done that before but not like this. This is very different. Cut and paste a few commands into Terminal or PowerShell and you're running local tests on all your devices in a few seconds. You can also audit all of the code and understand the entire container in just a few seconds.
Pretty excited to share that with you all. Curious how people will use it.

spudler_t got a reaction from CA3LE in Have the Xfinity 1200/40 Speed tier but dropping frames while streaming
Thanks ya I was thinking something was not right with it dropping frames when i was only running at 8,000 kbps.
Initially I was thinking Xfinity was doing something to limit me, then by accident I seen the GameFirst VI was setting the OBS stream section to low.
Once I changed that I was easily able to stream at 10,000 kbps
I just streamed a iRacing ARCA race at Indy RC and had no problems so all seems to work great.
Funny when you set things correctly how nice they work LOL

spudler_t got a reaction from CA3LE in Have the Xfinity 1200/40 Speed tier but dropping frames while streaming
I am not sure if I messed up the designation between B and b (Bits and Bytes). I did find the problem and I was shocked to be honest, my ASUS Strix Z-490 E Gaming MB has VI and I found it had the OBS Streaming set to Low which I guess was causing all the problems. I changed that setting to extreme (which is what iRacing is set at)
I set the OBS to 10000 kbps and since then I have not had a single issue of dropped anything and am in the bitrate suggested for 3440x1440
If anything changes or I find I start getting more dropped frames I will update this thread

spudler_t got a reaction from CA3LE in Have the Xfinity 1200/40 Speed tier but dropping frames while streaming
I have no Missed frames from rendering, Skipped frames from Encoding but when I stream at 8000kb/s or higher (or try to anyway) I start getting a huge amount of Dropped frames (Network)
I may be confused but isn't 1200/40 equivalent to 120000/40000 in kb/s??
If so I would think that streaming at 8000 kb/s should be a non issue it is 1/5 max upload and I seen where it is mentioned you should be able to set your stream bitrate to easily 50-75% of your upload speed Of course taking into account if you have other traffic uploading as well which I only have iracing running so do not think I should have issues with my settings
I am trying to upload higher quality iRacing streams (current resolution is 3440X1440 85 Hz (Fps)

1996 is when it all started by the way. Wish I still owned the old domain name, swapped it out in 2001 and then let the old one expire on accident.
Guys, I've been building this 27 years! It's still only 2% of the vision, which continues to evolve over time.
Hopefully the new version gets in front of even more eyes and with the new visuals more people understand what we're trying to show them here.
