Old thread, but whatever. I had to respond... I get a 150 - 200 ping to testmy.net, and my speed is usually more than 90% of the advertised speeds. TRuSPEED shows speeds of >1500 kbps, which should be impossible to attain with this connection, too bad

Some windows versions use such amounts of memory very inefficiently, loading stuff multiple times into the memory... Let's hope Longhorn has improved memory management a bit.

It's already illigal to run a server using chello, but I don't care, sometimes I just have to host 4 - 12 KB/sec for a MPG? That's low, and if online gameplay is laggy, they must be limiting the ports to even lower. Swimmer: You can't prove that game ports are being restricted, they'll just say your tests were flawed and the results inconclusive. With specific port testing ZoneAlarm might be the biggest problem you'll face, it blocks any access to ports other than legally allowed ones, and then it's still very strict. Edit: Is there any way to improve online gameplay? Quake 3 offers a few options, but ignoring those... RWin doesn't affect it right?

It's a shame that not all files can be downloaded via DAP, the version I had could only download from direct links. It also requires additional connections to the server to get so fast, which is not very nice for the others users.

There's a rumor going around that Chello is limiting all but the most used ports to less than what you should get. Right now my download is ~1400 and the cap is 1500, that's ok. But playing online is almost impossible, since the connection just can't keep up. Is there a way to test download speed using ports that aren't used much?

182 KB/sec is 1490.94 kbps, and it was too low because I didn't start the download immidiatly. Conclusion: I'm going above the 1500 limit
