you would be correct, it is directly attached to the southbridge, and has direct communication to the the north bridge and the CPU.
mrcrash you need to also make sure you have the latest chipset drivers as well.
S0rtna have you done any tweaking on your connection with cablenut or any other tweaking program? Do you have any firewalls running on your computer? and are your speeds like that all the time?
it will install on top of xp like a upgrade but you still have to restart becuse it wants to boot from the DVD. you can not mount this image and expect to install it. you have to boot from it at some point.

go to internet options then the security tab. and on internet click custom level and make sure that "automatic prompting for ActiveX controls" is enabled and make sure "download sined activex controls" is set to prompt. also make sure that "run activex controls and plugins" enabled.
calling them is always a good thing, you may also want to make sure your getting the proper modem sync rate. there is a page in your modem that will tell you what your actually downstream and upstream sync rate is.

any wireless connection in general is not going to be good for gaming. in your case bandwidth is not the problem its because you are on wireless. as much as i hate to say it, there isnt much you can do about your ping times becuase you are on wireless.
sean5900xt i would try talking off a few and see what happens if that is possable. you are asking alot from that cable modem. you may want to look into getting a few cable modems setup.
