WOW. Getting frustrated are we. Your Vocational professor must be making you watch MSNBC or something because bull shit is just flying off you left and right. Your processor must be one of those far left loons if he's teaching you facts like this "Also, you are all forgetting one HUGE fact: The Mac OS (OS X) is based ENTIRELY on Linux." because thats not a fact, and yet you say I'm terrible at reading facts, your terrible at stating facts. You can't really be this dumb to think that I'm 30+, for someone who thinks he has all this knowledge of computers, yet he fails to click my name and figure out that I'm 24. Just so you know, I do this to challange people who put false information out there, you know people like you. I don't spend hours thinking up counter-arguments or googling around, I pull this out of my head while I'm typing. I've been fucking around with computers and tech for a very long time. Almost as long as you have been alive. I know my stuff because I have to know it. It's my job to know it. Yea thats right I actually do this for a living. Your not the first 17 year old to come around and think he knows it all and you surely won't be the last. Here is some advice for the real world because it I think you would maybe like to go in IT maybe some day and I suggest you listen up because this is the only advice i'm ever going to give you. Saying things like this "I get suspended for beating the shit out of people like you almost monthly." Gets you nowhere in the real world. All it does is make you sound like a total fucking retard and that gets me to when you say this "This is yet another person you have pissed off to the point where they have quit Testmy.net, you sorry excuse for a human being. I hope CA3LE is proud of you." All that does is put a giant banner over your head saying "I can't deal with any kind of pressure". And no one in the real world wants to do business with someone who is a fucking retard or can't deal with pressure. You need to grow up real fast because everything you wrote shows how immature you really are and your lack of experience.

Ok you want to be an ass hole, well two can play at that game. If you want to compare to a 27" iMac first off use the Dell 27" display and not that POS you picked out. The Dell uses the exact same panel as what the iMac uses. That adds $160 to your total. I know a stock 27" iMac comes with a i5 and not an i7 as you had with your config. I gave that to you, just as I gave you the lower cost display you picked out. But will play this game now. Here is your config with using the i5 you just said to use and the proper monitor that you should have used. Motherboard: $85 http://www.newegg.co...N82E16813130579 i5 Processor: $190 http://www.newegg.co...N82E16819115074 16GB RAM: $120 http://www.newegg.co...N82E16820104262 x2 Case: $70 http://www.newegg.co...N82E16811129066 HDD: $90 http://www.newegg.co...N82E16822136533 Video Card: $350 http://www.newegg.co...N82E16814131391 Monitor: $999 http://www.newegg.co...N82E16824260038 Total: $1904 Stock 27" iMac $1699 + 16GB Ram $70 - Total: $1769 Hmm..... Oh and BTW. Mr. Know it all, OS X is not based ENTIRELY on Linux as you say. Mac OS X is actually NeXTSTEP which is a Mach Kernel with parts of FreeBSD and NetBSD. I suggest you STOP being a smart ass, little 17 year old, that thinks he knows it all and go take a moment and learn what OS X actually is. It's very clear with your "in reality I could take Debian, add a "Dock," and modify the UI a little, and make OS X" that you have no clue what the hell you are talking about and thats a FACT. Well the monitor I was using when I made the post made it look yellow, It's a really old HP/Compaq monitor that is used just for managing a server at the office and it has a really odd color tone now.

EBrown, First tip. Never use yellow for text. It's very hard on the eyes. Next tip. You never buy Ram or Hard Drives from Apple or any OEM. You should know this because everyone else does. Include the Ram/Hard Drive upgrade price that you would pay on Newegg. Going from 4GB to 16GB of ram on the iMac is about $70 bucks http://www.newegg.com/Special/ShellShocker.aspx?cm_sp=ShellShocker-_-20-231-295-_-09012011_1 The current gen iMac can actually go to 32GB of ram. As with ram no one ever buys the SSD from Apple or any OEM unless you like getting ripped off. So anyone could put the same SSD you posted if you would like an SSD. Taking your config (No SSD) your at $1870 to a stock 27" iMac with 16 GB of ram from Newegg which is $1770. Ill give you that your not at the Dell Display at $999 (The DoubleSight one you picked really isn't equal). Is your config faster? Yes. But on a day to day basis the average person probably wouldn't notice much a difference between the two unless your rendering lots of video. But now if you know were you look, you know browse around a little bit you can find things like this: http://store.apple.com/us/product/FD063LL/A?mco=MjMxMjQ0MjE Hmm. Thats looking pretty similar to your config at $1869 Just gotta put 16GB of ram in it at $70 bucks. For that extra $70 you get a All-in-One design (Only 1 cable coming out the back), dual thunderbolt ports, OS X, better support, it doesn't sound like there is an air plane in the room when its running.

Really? Go spec me out a 27" iMac equivalent with much better specs for less. We will even ignore the all in one part of the iMac.

From the way I have read everything. Nothing is really going to change. SInce he was on a leave he really wasn't the "CEO" Tim Cook was. So Tim Cook is going to stay were he has been since January and Jobs is going to become the chairman which is kind of the way he already was since he wasn't there for day to day opertations as it is. It wouldn't surprise me if in a year or so he was back as CEO.

Yea this would be of course if you had a few extra sitting around lol. Most VPS's now only give 1 IP but dedicated servers still get a few.

Changing the port is not actually the best solution because if anyone really wants to find out what port SSH is running on all they have to do is run a port scan to find it. I have found the best solution is to actually bind SSH on one of the secondary IP's and do not use that IP for anything. Then they can port scan on the domain all they want and they will never find any SSH on that IP.

No thats not what they are suing for. Apple is suing Samsung because Samsungs phones (Hardware and OS) look an awful lot like the iPhone and iOS. http://www.engadget.com/2011/06/24/apple-sues-samsung-again-for-copying-the-iphones-design-this-t/ Samsung probably should have hired a different designer of the OS because he was clearly looking at a iPhone when he was photoshoping up the UI.

CentOS 6 is pretty stable I haven't heard many real complaints about it so far. But I will run 5.5 and will till my next main server build. For virtualization I would only do OpenVZ or Xen. OpenVZ is cool because its free, can do a ton of things but the containers part sucks for at least my needs. I hate not having support for things like Fuse/SSHFS out of the box. I prefer Xen because of better performance and it has all the features I've ever needed built in.
-
That actually won't work anymore.
-
Hey hey hey... Don't knock using a beta in production. Sometimes it works out well I've done it before. Of course I tested the crap out it first. I keep it simple now to keep things stable. I run CentOS on every server and I never run anyone else's scripts. Everyone is custom to what I want.

:2funny: :2funny: Mac's don't have to defend against any viruses because at this time there are no known viruses in the wild for OS X but if there was since OS X is based on the Unix permission system it would fend just fine. I wouldn't exactly call the GUI enhanced since they are going for a Web 2.0 look the goal is to simplify everything not enhance. And if it makes you sleep better at night, you go right ahead and keep on thinking windows is better for design and animation.

Download SMC fan control and set the fan profile to default. If they still rev up. make a new profile and set everything to 1500 RPM. How old is the iMac? I've seen older ones do this because dust and dirt gets clogged in the heatsink because the turbine blows directly through the heatsink. Also put iStat Pro on it and post what the temps are when the fans are running at full.

...and thats exactly the reason why I haven't responded.

Check out Audio Hijack

This isn't really a big out there deal if you have the mac set to login from sleep this can't happen. Otherwise the password has to be kept it memory for you to be able to login automatically when you wake your computer. But it requires physical access to your computer to get your password anyway so its nothing to really worry about.

There are 3 ways. Either install a copy of SL then install Lion before anything else. Use the new Lion recovery console to install a fresh copy (Really cool because it does the install from the internet) or make your own bootable DVD or USB stick. Here are the instructions for #3 http://mashable.com/2011/07/20/lion-clean-install-guide/#20859Step-1-Download-Lion-From-the-Mac-App-Store

It's still there. It just seems like it works about 10% of the time. I've already submitted a bug report for that one on the dev. site. For me it seems to work 100% when I start the computer fresh but as soon as it goes to sleep then I wake it back up it doesn't work. And the moving the mouse to wake from sleep is another bug. It's not suppose to do that. 10.7.1 should be out rather quickly, I would say by the first or second week of August.

Ca3le just for future reference. You should do a clean install.

Dude to change the scrolling go to system preferences > mouse > uncheck scroll direction: natural

It clears the SMC, resetting the PRAM is also a good thing to do. Another one of those fun things that come with an EFI.
