  1. Yeah having a fast upload is bliss. You can only use download as long as you have hard drive space. Upload is way more valuable. It seems like a company in Houston, TX is going to be offering 10, 25, 50, 75, 100Mbps symmetrical connections as well as IPTV and VoIP phone. http://www.dslreports.com/shownews/72149 http://www.getfision.com/videos/ All of their services seem to best what surewest offers, so it seems like soon I will have someone to be envious of.
  2. Blunted 2 I thought you knew who I was... I am the guy on Surewest FiOS in Sacramento, CA. I'm on a 20Mbps symetrical connection but my real upload is 25Mbps. The upload test to here seems to be capped by the testmy servers to 5Mbps.
  3. My upload is 23.49Mbps (2.8MB/s) to the Santa Cruz NDT. My upload truely maxes out at 25Mbit though as I have seen my speeds hit 2.98MB/s on Azureus for breif periods of time.
  4. I get 5602 AMD X2 4800+ @2.7Ghz single 7800GTX 512 (580core/1750memory) http://service.futuremark.com/compare?3dm06=15038
  5. Yeah, that was the point I was trying to make. Most 802.11g routers can get full speed on Verizon's FiOS service so there is nothing special about the Verizon one. I thought that a speed test and a couple examples of wireless routers which worked well for me would be helpful.
  6. I got my normal speeds 20Mbps/20Mbps when I had the D-Link 4300 (but I got rid of it because of other issues I was having with it). Now my setup consists of a Linksys RV0041 (for wired) and a Linksys WRT-54G (for wireless). I just did a speed test here from my laptop connecting over the WRT-54G wireless and I just matched the best speed I can get here. :::.. 7. I agree with you Dark Matter but these are my real speeds. My line is dedicated FiOS (FTTH) and rated at 20Mbps/20Mbps but my upload hits 25Mbps. Unlike some of these other people posting cached tests these are my real everyday speeds from Surewest. http://www.testmy.net/forum/index.php?board=70.0
  8. Nah, I can't beat it but I can match it with about 20-22 Mbps download and 23-25 Mbps upload (depending on network conditions). How is your upload speed sportcentermania?
  9. There are other surewest fios people who are members here??? I would have never known because they never post and say hello.

  11. I am interested to see how Verizon's IPTV works out. I Currently have IPTV though Surewest's FTTH (fios) triple-play solution and the quality is so-so. For low motion scenes the quality is pretty much perfect. For high motion (like sporting events) it is horrible with lots of video artifacts (mostly ringing along the edges but some blocking as well). Surewest's target date was November 2005 to roll out HDTV over IPTV (which they have been testing for awhile now) which means they should release it any day now. Citing the quality problems with the current SDTV I am unsure if they can get the crystal-clear HDTV right but I will give it a shot when it is available. For this new Verizon IPTV solution I would recommend to hold off until you see that there is positive feedback from people that have a large or HDTV. If you have a normal SDTV then it most likely won't pick up any quality imperfections so you don't have much to worry about. Big-Screen TVs and HDTVs will usually pick up every detail and imperfection so problems become more noticeable especially if you watch a lot of mpeg4 (xvid/divx) or lower bitrate mpeg2 (not full-quality 8Mbps DVD-9 Mpeg2) and are more sensitive to video artifacts. 12. Upload seemed to be the same, which is a good thing because my upload before was 24Mbps and I am happy it didn't go down. To testmy.net as always, I can only get 4-5Mbps even when I can get 10Mbps upload to Speakeasy in Dallas, TX... I think your upload test has a problem. For more local tests I get up to 24Mbps upload. For bittorrent upload I can also get those speeds because more than one connection is open.
  13. Every since I got switched over to the 20Mbit/20Mbit I always wondered why I could only get 18.5Mbps down. At first I didn't really care and was just enjoying the fast speeds but it just started getting to me over time. Why wasn't I getting the full 20Mbit? I mean come on this is Fiber there shouldn't any reason why I couldn't get the full speed. Well I complained to tech support yesterday about my fluctuating speeds and they sent out someone today (surewest is quick like that, if you have a problem they usually send out someone the next day) to take a look at it. When he saw my speed fluctuations he said he would brb and went over to surewest to test my port. Well it seems the port I was on had a problem and was lagging. So he got them (reluctantly) to switch me to a new port. Here are my new speeds on the fixed port. :::.. 14. Same here but I also get this: Connection Problems Sorry, SMF was unable to connect to the database. This may be caused by the server being busy. Please try again later.
  15. Its not accurate for high upload speeds. I can only get 500KB/s from your site but when I test from speakeasy out of dallas, texas I am able to get 1200KB/s For servers closer to home I get up to 3000KB/s (my max upload speed). So basically my upload speed is cut in half for your upload test.

  17. Actually most of it is import DVDISO's, music, and games that the MPAA and RIAA has no control over. When I have so much space and bandwidth I like to take a little caution, along with the fact that hollywood hasn't even relased anything that great in a long time and I am not a huge music fan. For US based films I either buy or rent them if there is something I like. Importing (stuff not sold in the US) on the other hand isn't very practical so I usually download a lot of that type of stuff. BTW: This is getting a little off topic now

  19. Right now they are still running a deal where you get the 10Mbit (this has a 40GB cap per month) for 29.95/month or the 20Mbit (no cap) for 49.95/month for an entire year if you sign up for at least one other service (TV or phone) and a 1 year contract. I am not stressing about it because they told me it was unlimted when I upgraded and removed the Power User 1 (35GB extra per month on the 10Mbit) which I was paying an extra $40 for before. I am going to enjoy it while it stays this way and rest assured that I will not have any extra changes (their words will protect me if they change the rules without notifiying me first). I do distro for anime fansubs groups and use Japanese P2P a lot along and sometimes run a private server. My typical download is 2.4MB/s and typical upload is 2.7MB/s. For close-by server is <10ms latancy (a good chunk of california and near-by states) I have seen my download reach 3.4MB/s (www.gamespot.com) and my upload reach 3.8MB/s (via bitorrent to a xo.net server) My speed tests from surewest (http://personal.surewest.com/internet/speed_test.php) seem to always show about 2.4MB/s download and 4MB/s upload.
  20. Yeah I am on surewest's 20Mbit fios. I have now come to the conclusion that the that the download speed is really 20,000kbps (2.4MB/s)-28,500kbps (3.4MB/s) but the upload is 23,000kbps(2.7MB/s)-32,000 kbps(3.8MB/s) depending on latency conditions. There are no caps to speak of so I usually use between 50-75GB per day (I am sure that surewest loves me for that

  22. There is no cap on the 20Mbit/20Mbit! Only the 10Mbit/10Mbit has a cap. I use about 1TB a month on the 20Mbit service and there are no additional charges.
