Pgoodwin1 reacted to CA3LE in Upload Speed TID Chart Not Rendering
I wish it did that.  Those details, what I call TiP (Test in Progress) data, are only available on classic linear speed tests over 1.5 MB.  The upload speed test and multithread speed test do not have that ability... yet.  I'm working on it.  I'm also going to enable TiP for tests under 1.5 MB.  It's a complicated issue as to why under 1.5 MB and under doesn't work with TiP... for that, I know the solution, I just need to take the time.  It's just going to be tedious and time consuming.  I have it slated for update but it's a lower priority.

I'm working on making that happen with the upload and multithread too.  Which is definitely not a straight forward build.  It's a long process of trial and error, it's not like I'm asking normal things out of your browser.  There also aren't books out there on how to build this stuff, e.g. "Internet Speed Test Building For Dummies".  Instead there are trillions of bits of information scattered across the Internet.  The answer to what I want to do is out there, it's just not laid out for me.  On top of that, sometimes pieces of the puzzle are missing because either browser or language capabilities need to catch up and give me the ability to do what I'm trying to do.  I've been developing that TiP system completely blind, not even knowing if all the work will pay off and actually work to produce useful information.  It's worked beautifully on my classic download speed test but when it comes to the other tests... I'm not even sure if it's possible yet.  There are challenges to both.. just know that I am developing but it takes time.  I wish that you all could see my vision for TMN, stick around and you will.

... I know that doesn't help you much right now.  Maybe I should have that window shrink for results without TiP, with an explanation about why there isn't a graph.  At least then it wouldn't look like something was missing.

Thanks for the fix on the content.

I don't believe I was the one that had an issue going from v12 to v13; I don't think I've ever emailed you a message directly. I think I asked in a thread once how to get back and forth from 12 to 13. Funny, I don't remember what v12 was like - I am 65 yrs old, but I'm not too resistant to change though. I just upgraded to iOS 7. It's been out since Sept 8, but I don't typically dive into a major OS change until after a few updates. It was at 7.0.3 when I took the plunge. I just took the plunge on Mac OS 10.9 Mavericks the other day and it's been out since Oct 22. It's at 10.9.1. Pretty happy with both of those upgrades, although I don't yet know that much about the new capabilities in each one.

I can't wait to see what you've been cooking up

Yeah, I am gearing up.  No ETA and I'm not doing the next updates incrementally.  There will be a few things that will be updated and released as soon as they're available but for the most part my next version will hit all at once.  Visitors will have the choice to keep using Version 13 if they're more comfortable with that.  Seems that I have a segment of visitors that really don't like major changes.  Actually, Pgoodwin1 if my memory serves me correctly you first started emailing me because you weren't a fan going from v12 to v13.  ... but I'd bet money that you see the value in v13 now and use it exclusively.  Same may happen going to the next version if you're reluctant to change.  I've realized over the years that I can't make 100% of people happy... but I still try.

My aim in the next release is to make it as easy as possible for the common person (non-computer-geek) to use and fully understand what this site does.  When I first started building the TMN speed test I built it for myself and really didn't care if other people understood it.  I usually assume that you have a certain level of computer and bandwidth knowledge but I really want the other 95% to get it.  I'll also be adding advanced features but hopefully in a way that won't overwhelm people... it will only be overwhelming if you want it to be.

I have my work cut out for my on all fronts.  But once the fire is lit... like mudmanc4 said... the work is done before I realize that I did anything.  Hopefully you'll all like the end result.

He has to be powering up right now, I get that feeling from him again, some bad a$$ things are about to happen in the coming months. It's like the calm before the storm. He'll stay up for literally days on end, sometimes not remembering exactly what he did afterwards, behold let there be more features to testmy.net.

Not speaking for him , just throwing this in there if you don't get a response as fast as you might wish Guarantee he's on it though.

CA3LE - It's been empty since late December when the mySQL database had the issues. I'm pretty sure some others users' was empty back then too.

It doesn't seem to be logging new stuff either. This post didn't show up in My Content

Not an urgent matter. Put it on your Reminders. Ha. And like one of my old bosses used to say when we were overloaded - hurry every chance you get.

Late Dec or early Jan, TWC (or a company they're renting service from) fixed something. I'm now getting very close to the 50/5 service I'm signed up for. Some of those deep dips on the 60 day chart went down to 2-3 Mbps download - slower than the upload speed. It was painful.

I ran TraceMy for a while and got the info I need to build the real version. Thanks to the people that helped me test that. I'm shooting to have TraceMy as an addition to version 14... coming soon.

Thanks for the input on TiP, I just wish I would have made it years earlier. Provides such detail... makes diagnosis much easier. Especially would have been handy when I was a cable tech working on people's internet all day.

Thanks. I figured something went down. I saw the database unavailable message come up for a while. I assumed that affected the My Content stuff too.

Yea I hear you - overloaded / old nodes as usual. Maybe they have been working on their infrastructure. But today, if you have cable, and not in a densely populated area in a rural setting, you should not see slow does like this. Sure I agree there are those times, we all see them to an extent.

And still many school children are still off on winter break, so I can see this since Christmas.

there we go... fixed.  Table was crashed.  Please lookout for other database issues.  I'm having my bot go through now and repair everything though so it shouldn't be an issue.

It's still being logged, but maybe not since yesterday.  I had mySQL crash hard on me yesterday (300+ days up without an issue too) and I'm still going over my databases.  Please bear with me, you can still see that information when you test... it's just not being logged right now.

Thanks for bringing that to my attention, I'm on it.

$32K!  Dude, personally if I needed that much power... I'd get a loaded Mac Pro... and raid some Thunderbolt drives.

And if that didn't get it done... I'd get two or three of them and still come in under $32K.

That's like the size of a medium drink from McDonalds.  You can daisy chain them... (up to 36 devices) and have a 20 GB/s link between the machines.  Mac is superior in my opinion.

Wouldn't you love a more elegant machine...

It even knows to turn the lights on the ports when it detects that you've turned it... it senses that you're trying to to plug something in and lights the way.  The design is beautiful.  It was beyond what I need right now.  The way that I'd want to get it...

    Minus $3600 without the display...

For the people out there with super heavy computing tasks where time is money.  Like video engineers... that makes sense.  Not too many applications are taking advantage of the GPU aspect yet, final cut pro and some other high end software are doing it.  Sure, you can build a single PC machine that would be more far more powerful but can you do it with this kind of footprint? Can you do it this quietly? (only 12dB)

In my opinion, the Late 2013 Mac Pro is a work of art in every aspect.  You'd have to be insane to spend $32K on a PC.

Yea that new mac pro seems like the shit to git - although the design is obviously mastered for various reasons.

This old 07' MBP is still cruising along, save I'm mainly in a shell or several, otherwise it's troublesome. Slow when piling on the apps I mean to say. I can only imagine you must be smiling inside while using that new machine Ca3le

Wow... the new Macbook Pro rocks.

This is on AC wireless, to my Netgear Nighthawk AC 1900 using Comcast 105 Mbps.  Using Safari.  Someone was recently emailing me about Safari.  They said they were getting lower readings on their Macbook pro, only in Safari.  Well, I'm testing under the same conditions... same computer, same browser.  I think you have something else causing an issue because on my network, it's screaming fast.

Click the image and you'll see that one is a classic download test accompanied by a multithread speed test.

While I'm on the subject of speed, look at the PCIe SSD performance...

(testing with Blackmagic Disk Speed Test - by the way, my own write test of a 10GB disk image creation performed at a low of 780 MB/s and high of 988 MB/s so blackmagic seems to be a good disk speed test on Mac)

The late 2013 Macbook is ridiculous. I have the 15 inch, fully upgraded with 1 TB SSD.

Don't even get me started about the display.  Because of pixel doubling you can see that my screenshots are huge...

I've been starting to notice that my iMac is slowing me down so I needed to upgrade.  But I wanted something portable.  I can output this to my iMac's display when I want to and get a nicer work space for the type of stuff I do and at the same time take full advantage of the second discrete graphics card... well to truly take advantage of it I'd need a 4k monitor but I'm waiting till 4k monitors are much cheaper.  It would be really nice but when the display costs more than the computer... loses it's appeal.  The 4k resolution is at a lower refresh rate too.  60 Hz 4k would be nice Apple.

I think I need to replace my iMac's SSD.  I was getting 500 MB/s read and write at first but I've used it a lot... they degrade over time.  This is a 2011 model I bought in April.  With only 256 GB Corsair Performance Pro SSD

Don't get me wrong, my iMac is still very fast.  But you guys know me... I have a need for speed.  It's kinda what I do... hence the website.  Anyone looking to upgrade to a laptop that can put badass desktop computers to shame should be looking at the new macbook line.  Pair it with a solid network and you can't go wrong.  I'll be able to blaze through my routine and get two or three times the work done.

You can't upgrade the memory later, so make sure that you get what you'll need up front... but speaking of SSD degradation.  The SSD is a discrete component according to my research... so that's good, although Apple says it's "not a user serviceable part" ... it is, I change "non user serviceable parts" all the time and I would bet that there will be third party drives released.  So when it degrades, which it will... it's replaceable.  ... 2000 MB/s SSD performance may be possible with aftermarket PCIe SSD.  They run PCIexpress 2.0, I believe it's 4 lanes.  So there is headroom there for improvement.  Time will tell.  Funny, the girl at Apple told me, "it's soldered on the board..." -- probably just wanted me to spring for the more expensive one.  Bitch.  Oh well, I'll put it to go use.

All I know is that I'll be able to work faster and more conveniently now.  Thanks again Apple.  (killer battery life too, especially for an core i7.  Past hour, 9% used.)

I'll try it on my computer later, I'm on my iphone.

By the way, I'll be updating IPB as well as a ton of other stuff in January so we'll be picking up a bunch of new stuff. January through March I'll be programming heavy so the whole site will get new stuff. So be on the lookout for new stuff everywhere on TMN.

Pgoodwin1 got a reaction from jb847 in Why Do My Results Differ From Speedtest.net / Ookla Speed Tests?
CA3LE. And you should also mention that most of the OOKLA based test sites' speed tests won't run on an iOS device because the tests require Flash (the memory and battery hog technology that's not allowed on iOS devices). So kudos for you having iOS compatible testing. And although Speedtest.org now supports iOS/Safari, the results are way off. They even have a disclaimer:

    "Warning
For best testing experience and accuracy, Broadband Speed Checker requires at least version 8 of Flash. Please update your client by clicking here."

And when you try the support Contact Us on Speedtest.org, you get:
"Not Found. The requested URL /contact/ was not found on this server."

Plus you can't choose a server like you can on TestMy.

There is an OOKLA Speedtest app for iOS that allows you to pick servers, and the results trend kind of like the results I get here on TestMy, but the UI and the results displays and overall functionality of the app is orders of magnitude less than this site.

For iOS device users, nobody else that I've found is even in the same universe as TestMy.
