cpatullo Posted February 4, 2006 CID Share Posted February 4, 2006 Upgraded to the 7000 and up to the professional plan. Am seeing some speed differences for the better. Just curious as to whether or not anyone is using any tweaks to get this thing flying or not? If so, what are they? Also, are there any specific Cablenut CSS files for the DW7000 yet? Thanks. :::.. Bird Fan Posted February 4, 2006 CID Share Posted February 4, 2006 Welcome to the forums cpatullo! There aren't any cablenut files just for the 7000, but you can just use the 6000 settings... Your speeds look average and pretty good for the time of day. I uploaded my settings below.

bryanb602 Posted February 5, 2006 CID Share Posted February 5, 2006 seemed like cablenut helped with the 6000. that is it made things more consistent. no big increase in either download or upload. I've even tried using tcp optimizer. But I don't believe you will get any big increase if your already over 1000Kbps.(unless your on a business plan) During peak hours no tweaks seem to help anything. I have had no luck tweaking the 7000, but i'm no expert. I've tried everybodys tweaks i could find. I was gonna upgrade to the small office plan until I realized my dish and transmitter will not work for that. $1000 for new dish anybody else thought about getting Wild Blue? They offer a plan for 1.5down/250up alot better price.
mrcleanshaven Posted February 5, 2006 CID Share Posted February 5, 2006 hi bryanb602 i have been experimenting with many different tweak settings, and there seems to be no effect, with all registers set to nothing, is the same or better than any tweak settings I have tried. as for upgrading your system to larger dish; did you purchase from a local 'dealer' or online? i purchased from local dealer and was able to upgrade systems for only the difference in price, did not have to purchase entire system again, but my dishes are all mounted on poles not one trimast mount (for house). This meant that only the dish had to be swapped out and the plan changed. I must emphasize that I have a great relationship with the dealer and have purchased many systems. perhaps you can negotiate? Thanks for the reply mrcleanshaven I puchased online. I might could come across some used equipment a little cheaper Just was looking at the price on dways website I have kicked the idea around now for a little while, but never got serious about it. Might be good to go to a local guy so I can have someone to turn to for warranty issues if anything bites the dust. I would rather deal with a person face to face on stuff like that. I can get about the same speed without tweaks as I do with also. i have had times where I'm sure applying tweaks has had a negative effect. (with 7000 modem). Back when I was on the 6000 I never saw big increases, But did a little good after a few tries with different settings. They seem to have cut out all of the fun with these new modems. They've all ready changed thier FAP to regulate the heavy downloaders. read about that over on the dslreports forum. alot of people seem unhappy about the fap change, but yet they are still getting decent customer reviews. I'm just waiting to see what comes about since their still a new company. I think dway is trying harder now since they might have competition I even heard something about dish network starting some kind of a satellite internet service. the more competition for dway the better things will get. It will be interesting to see what happens over the next year or so (if anything happens).

R Posted February 6, 2006 CID Share Posted February 6, 2006 Re: Wildblue...I looked at them, but they want a two year contract...Plus, if you cancel, the termination fee is equal to the remaining months on the contract x the monthly fee for whatever plan you're on...I won't go near that, personally..Direcway's termination is "only" $300...So, I bought a used DW4000, had it installed last week...Dudes, it flies...Couple of negatives though...Slower uploads (of course), and the home plan ($59.99) fap bucket is 169MB...Apparently, you have to get the $89.99 plan for the professional size bucket...You get a static ip too...I like the 7000 Pro plan for $69.99 better...So, there's trade-offs... ghostmaster Posted February 6, 2006 CID Share Posted February 6, 2006 There is a 400 dollar surcharge if you don't return the equipment (if you didn't buy the equipemt up front and took the promotional plan). There is a 300 cancellation fee on the contract. So it's really a 300 fee, but they take 700 until you return the equipement, then they credit you back 400. Either way it sucks..... fikester Posted February 7, 2006 CID Share Posted February 7, 2006 that would be scary, but Dway has nobody local that works with them around me, so that makes a bad situation worse. I still think WB has got something going for them....Dway would not quit installing if a meteor shower took out each and every satellite they had! The ads would continue and the installers would temporarily hook people up to dial up accounts.

Dway used to run fine for me all the time. now it still runs but slows down greatly between 5pm and 10pm every weeknight.
R Posted February 7, 2006 CID Share Posted February 7, 2006 bryan, you're correct regarding the contract terms for WB...That's the only reason i'm still a Dway customer...And, it's also true WB has stopped installations in certain parts of the country, because the beams are full...Supposedly, WB is launching a new satellite, before the end of the year... fikester Posted February 7, 2006 CID Share Posted February 7, 2006 When I had the 6000 only problems I had were slow uploads.....download connection speeds were 1000 pretty much 24/7 on the same bird. My problems started Dec 1, 2005 with the upgrade to the DW7000 and upgrade to the pro account........have nothing good to say about the upgrade, Dway, or Hughes Network, absolutely nothing! I have had an account with them for over a year. The truth is now shinning bright as the sun, the lies, tricks, scams, word games are all point blank.
