At least it’s good and steady. Where are you? just wondered if the Dallas server is the closest TestMy Test server to you.

Yeah, the Dallas server is closest, Pgoodwin1.  I'm about 50-60 miles, as the turkey buzzard flies, SSE of Tulsa, OK.   I do try to stay positive about it.  It's sufficient to stream NETFLIX and Amazon Prime, et cetera, rarely pausing for buffering.  I started to have DishNet installed way out here in the boondocks, but got to reading all their legalese fine print and sundry disclaimers, then surmised that If I viewed 4 or 5 movies, early in one billing cycle, that would mean I had pretty much 'shot my wad' for streaming that month!   .. They would begin to throttle me back for the rest of the cycle.  .. Corporate hogs!  Absurdity!  Haha  . . At least with DSL, I don't experience rain fade, either. ..  The actual broadband 'connection speed' is comparatively faster than dial-up Netscape or AOL from days of yore,  of the last Millennium.   .. J/k, it is good enough for me. .. I think $60.00 mo.  total is fair enough with unlimited LD phone service.  I don't like smart phones because I'm dumb.  I used to pay $84.00 per month but I persuaded the nice folks at Windstream to 'gimme a break!'

I’m surprised that you can stream movies without buffering hiccups at the 1.3 Mbps.

The DishNet deal did sound like a loser.

OY VEY!! .. My $60 U.S.  Dollars are not purchasing very much at all,  sagerj, comparatively speaking!  .. I think I'll commence litigation procedures in Superior Court, ..Myself versus Windstream Communications,  for "Blatant Exploitation!"  Living way out here in the sticks,  the boondocks, my options are NIL!    Whatever happened to the Federal Communication Commission?!!    << Rhetorical.  I think I'll seek reparation damages.   These past 12 years I've been paying this company for that which I have not received, i.e. "Broadband Internet Services!" ..  By my calculations, at 1.3 Mbps Download, and  314 Kbps upload,  I figure they owe me $7, 247.38,  fees commensurate with my actual service connection speed, and adding 8% accrued interest for the sum total.     .. I'm not hard-hearted, so I'll probably relent and settle out of Court for  $Five Large!   B)

Peace,

Im on INFOWEST which uses a mini dish which is a radio reciever/transmitter off my roof pointed at a tower for my internet fix.  I pay $69 for the Platinum package which is suppose to get my at MAX: 50 mbps...yeah right...its has slowed somewhat to as crawl to 12 mbps lately. I call tech support and somehow they make some changes..and it goes up to max 35 mbps.

I dunno if its worth it to pay the mac and maybe I should drop down one tier to 25 mbps at $49.    I tried DSL amd its okay but slow from Century Link.  Well I am glad for testmy.net and its services!

Comcast

Internet only, no phone, TV, etc $91.00

They get a bad rap, but I've had them for 20 years and have only had 1 problem with "regular" service. That was 6-7 years ago they were doing line work in our neighborhood and my speed dropped for a few hours then went out for 30 minutes.

Even with storms they've been incredibly reliable. We live on the Southwest Gulf coast of Florida very close to the water. After Hurricane Charlie in 2004, Wilma 2005 and Irma 2017, internet was never down or was back on within a day.

With a 10 year old, 13 year old, myself and my wife using a 4K LED smart TV, 3 flat screen 1080p LCD TVs, 2 Kindles, 3 Android phones, 1 iPhone, Xbox 360, Xbox One, 2 gaming PCs and who knows what else, the 1 terabyte a month data allotment has been gone over a few times. In my opinion they need to bump that up a little since I believe my situation is becoming more common. I had never thought about it before I bought one, but a 4K 65" LED Smart TV eats quite a bit of bandwidth.

And remember, FIGHT TO REINSTATE NET NEUTRALITY!!!
