Xylem Posted August 4, 2006 CID Share Posted August 4, 2006 http://www.killernic.com Is this really going to be worth anyone's money, or does it seem like just a novelty item?
dlewis23 Posted August 4, 2006 CID Share Posted August 4, 2006 there are a few companies that are doing this, it can make a difference but the ISP is still the main factor.
Swimmer Posted August 4, 2006 CID Share Posted August 4, 2006 this is more for network gaming than anything else.. it doesnt matter if you have a gigabit LAN and a dsl line that lags like no other.. that card will not help you..

gotmilk Posted August 5, 2006 CID Share Posted August 5, 2006 I dunno, the ping throttle looks like a pretty fun tool to mess with.... It might make a little difference, but $279 worth of difference, heck no.
php Posted August 5, 2006 CID Share Posted August 5, 2006 Major overkill. That card has specs almost as high as one of my test servers Unless your computer is maxed out as is I don't think it will help much, definitely not enough for how much it costs. gotmilk Posted August 5, 2006 CID Share Posted August 5, 2006 Say, does anyone know of a software ping throttler? I WANT ONE.
Swimmer Posted August 5, 2006 CID Share Posted August 5, 2006 my guess is that it is just another name for QoS.. Something that controlles the software that can run while you are play a game..
Swimmer Posted August 9, 2006 CID Share Posted August 9, 2006 Alright.. there was some more buzz about this card on the net today.. I guess it uses an onboard linux subsystem to off load the packeting of the information from the CPU.. which would help a little bit.. I am still not sure how much.. I guess I would need to see benchmarks before I am sold.
php Posted August 9, 2006 CID Share Posted August 9, 2006 It would be something to brag about though lol... "Hey guys, my NIC runs linux. What can yours do?"
gotmilk Posted August 10, 2006 CID Share Posted August 10, 2006 Yeah, it would definitely bee cool to say you have it, but it's still not worth it... I would also like to see some benchmarks.

dlewis23 Posted August 11, 2006 CID Share Posted August 11, 2006 for the price of that nic it better give me more then just lower ping times, it should do my taxes and empty my dishwasher while its at it.
