DJVageli Posted September 7, 2006 CID Share Posted September 7, 2006 I know this has probably been asked millions of times already lol..but tomorrow Im planning on buying a new wireless router and am looking for suggestions on which would be the right one to get? My old Linksys BEFW11S4 eventhough functioning..has been giving me many problems the past few months and is 3 years old so I guess its time for a new one..so any suggestions on what to get within $100 would be appreciated

asubaseball727 Posted September 7, 2006 CID Share Posted September 7, 2006 Linksys wrt54g with firmware version below 5. (Check a wal-mart or sam's club. Not a tech store that would have the updated models.

Swimmer Posted September 7, 2006 CID Share Posted September 7, 2006 My fav out of that list were the Dlinks.. I refuse to buy anything that has the word Netgear on it as far as consumer products go.. I would be likely to buy the DI-624 and the wifi card instead of the mimo router.. that is just going to cost more money to get up and running... As far as the linksys goes.. I am a sucker for any pre v5 wrt54G routers. There is now a v6 out.. my brother just had to buy one and I was shocked to see v6.. There are a few options.. I personally think that the best firmware out there is DD-WRT no questions asked. There is always ebay.. or the WRT54GL which is made to run linux firmware.. Yea Im staying away from netgear..and some of those routers dlewis23 showed me looked pretty good in both performance and visually as well...and as for the Linksys I guess ill feel more at home with it since I currently have one..but which version would be the best..and whats wrong with v5? lol I've been using a WRT54G for about 3 years now with no problems. Firmware is version 2.02 So it looks like everyone is having good experiences with it so far..it doesnt look like a bad choice to get

There really isnt a problem with v5 or v6, it just has a low amout of internal memory. I actually have a v5 and have not really had a problem with it. It works.. but then you are going to have to spend the money on the cards so that you can use the mimo technology.. and they are not cheap
