saygoodie Posted September 10, 2006 CID Share Posted September 10, 2006 The router is a Linksys NH1005 and i can connect my pc to it and go on the internet just fine, but when i try to connect my xbox it gives me a "No DNS server" error. I'm not a noob at computers so you can tell me what to do or recommend and i should understand. thanks!
DJVageli Posted September 10, 2006 CID Share Posted September 10, 2006 Hey saygoodie..when you are in your xbox configuration settings..do you have everything set to detect and automatic settings?
Swimmer Posted September 10, 2006 CID Share Posted September 10, 2006 problem is that it isnt a router.. it is a hub.. so once you have the ip adress, from the ISP, released to the computer the Xbox will not work... I bet if you disconnect you pc it will work.
saygoodie Posted September 11, 2006 Author CID Share Posted September 11, 2006 yeah everything is set to automatic... so there's no way to make them both work at the same time?
dlewis23 Posted September 11, 2006 CID Share Posted September 11, 2006 listen to what swimmer is saying. main point its not a router its a hub, so its going to be diffferent.
saygoodie Posted September 11, 2006 Author CID Share Posted September 11, 2006 yes i understand that but is there any way for me to make them work at the same time.
FallowEarth Posted September 11, 2006 CID Share Posted September 11, 2006 You will need to purchase an additional IP lease from your ISP. A router takes one public IP address and uses that to connect multiple client machines. The reason for this is that it has a Network Address Translation (NAT) firewall, which issues private networking IP addresses (usually 192.168.x.x). A hub does not have a NAT and does not configure the connections logically. It merely forwards a broadcast to any devices hooked to it. saygoodie Posted September 11, 2006 Author CID Share Posted September 11, 2006 well i got it to work by installing a new NIC card, (one NIC connects to the modem, while the other connects to the HUB) thanks for the help/info guys!

Swimmer Posted September 12, 2006 CID Share Posted September 12, 2006 that is pretty much the only what to make it work.. I would still invest the money in getting a router.. It will save you lots of headaches in the long run and then you dont have to have your computer on at the same time that you are using your xbox.. unless you are using xbconnect.
