ramdaspadhye Posted June 2, 2007 CID Share Posted June 2, 2007 Hello. My name's Chris and this is my first post on this forum. I've been doing a bit of reading about tweeking my connection settings. Here's what I've got... Cable internet through suddenlink comm. :::.. Download Stats ..::: Download Connection is:: 4351 Kbps about 4.4 Mbps (tested with 5983 kB) Download Speed is:: 531 kB/s Tested From:: https://testmy.net/ (Server 1) Test Time:: 2007/06/02 - 9:52am Bottom Line:: 76X faster than 56K 1MB Download in 1.93 sec Tested from a 5983 kB file and took 11.265 seconds to complete :::.. Upload Stats ..::: Upload Connection is:: 507 Kbps about 0.5 Mbps (tested with 1013 kB) Upload Speed is:: 62 kB/s Tested From:: https://testmy.net/ (Server 1) Test Time:: 2007/06/02 - 9:55am Bottom Line:: 9X faster than 56K 1MB Upload in 16.52 sec Tested from a 1013 kB file and took 16.375 seconds to complete I'm not 100% sure on this, but it looks like my Upload speed is pretty bad. The little bar scale showed that the average for suddenlink.net is 395kbps, and I am running at 507kbps, so I guess thats...okay. It also shows that the typical cable upload speed is around 1100kbps. What do you guys think? I have downloaded the cablenut software and ran the cable 2k and didn't help me much. Any other advice?
tdawnaz Posted June 3, 2007 CID Share Posted June 3, 2007 welcome to the forum ramdaspadhye...stay long come back often all looks pretty good to me...someone is gonna be asking...what are your advertised speeds?? i don't get much more than you for upload...
starship_troopers Posted June 3, 2007 CID Share Posted June 3, 2007 upload will almost always be slower than download by a bit. my upload is only 300kbps while my download is 3mbps. so it looks ok to me. but yeah, what are your advertised speeds?
ramdaspadhye Posted June 3, 2007 Author CID Share Posted June 3, 2007 I have no idea what their advertised speed is. I have great downloading speeds from sites like MegaUpload (usually around 300kb/sec). Whenever I am playing battlefield 2, I sometimes get kicked from servers for having a "higher than average ping." I was just wondering what you guys thought the problem might be with that. I have a pretty decent computer... Pentium D 3.0ghz, 2.5gigs of ram (2x1gig and 2x512mb), the graphics card that came with it (radeon x1600), and the integrated ethernet card. I know people talk about how much they hate SuddenLink, but I haven't had TOO Much problem with them as far as the service. It used to be Cox, then they came in and took over. anyone have any recommendations to give me a little more umph?
Shug7272 Posted June 3, 2007 CID Share Posted June 3, 2007 Your speed looks pretty good. I had suddenlink and your upload is pretty good for them. I dont know of any suddenlink package that offers over what you are getting.
Siryak Posted June 3, 2007 CID Share Posted June 3, 2007 Try a larger file and see what results you get... Also welcome to the forums!
ramdaspadhye Posted June 3, 2007 Author CID Share Posted June 3, 2007 I download 70 and 80mb music albums all the time. I never really get below 150kb/sec. Sometimes it's lower, but I'm assuming, too, that a lot of people are downloading the same thing.

ramdaspadhye Posted June 3, 2007 Author CID Share Posted June 3, 2007 Man I don't know. They only offer 2 services here...a 29/month and a 39/month. The 29/month is about the same as dialup, seriously. I got the 39/month because a friend of mine had it and his was going pretty good. I really don't have too much info about it. I do know I have a lot of packet loss, though. I know that much.

ramdaspadhye Posted June 3, 2007 Author CID Share Posted June 3, 2007 Don't really need to. I've heard PLENTY of people on this board talking about how shiotty the service at suddenlink is. What i don't understand, though, is how they can come in, use the same stuff as COX had, and still have SHIOTTY service (packet loss). Let me run a trace real quick ont hat same file one sec. ramdaspadhye Posted June 3, 2007 Author CID Share Posted June 3, 2007 Says 0.0% packet loss, but packet discard = 1.5%. Round trip latency is 190ms, loss periods min, avg, and max = 20ms. My score was a 4.0 out of 5.0. Said from me to Boston, my packet loss was 0.00% and the packet discards was 44.3% and the Codec was 55.7% This help? just- Posted June 3, 2007 CID Share Posted June 3, 2007 well i think u dont have much of a packet loss my friend do u have anything to complain about ur internet connection ? looks good to me
ramdaspadhye Posted June 3, 2007 Author CID Share Posted June 3, 2007 The only thing I complain about is why I always get kicked from different game servers for having a high ping. I try to find servers that are remotely near me in order to lower the ping by shortening the distance. Some servers that are just in dallas (i'm near memphis tn) i get kicked from because of the high ping. I figured it would have something to do with my ISP or the service that I have. Any ideas? I've got a Pentium D 3.00ghz, 2.5gigs of ram, Radeon x1600 graphics card (came with the computer), and have the graphics set on medium. It runs fine during the game, but sometimes I get kicked from those servers. Any ideas?

ramdaspadhye Posted June 3, 2007 Author CID Share Posted June 3, 2007 Well, yeah, my mom's computer. She's hardly ever on it. We haev it shared with a switch, not a router. The switch was used whenever I was back at college and my roommate and I shared the connection over 1 IP. could this be the problem?
