Nuclear warheads mistakenly flown on B-52, landing at Barksdale AFB

A B-52 bomber mistakenly loaded with five nuclear warheads flew from Minot Air Force Base, N.D, to Barksdale Air Force Base, La., on Aug. 30, resulting in an Air Force-wide investigation, according to three officers who asked not to be identified because they were not authorized to discuss the incident.

The B-52 was loaded with Advanced Cruise Missiles, part of a Defense Department effort to decommission 400 of the ACMs. But the nuclear warheads should have been removed at Minot before being transported to Barksdale, the officers said. The missiles were mounted onto the pylons of the bomber

there are constantly nukes being ferried around. (it's safer to fly them on the planes they were designed for than to put them on the road with everyone else) this case was just brought to the public eye because they weren't supposed to be nukes, they were just supposed to be the missiles ferried down for decomissioning.

well, they are re-certifying everyone involved in the incident. and if someone gives a wrong order, someone checks out the wrong missile (the one with the warhead still attached instead of the one without it) the crew on the walkaround doesn't catch it... granted, it takes a lot of things to go wrong for something like this to happen, and they did notice it afaik while the thing was still in flight, so the safeguards in place kicked in, if a bit late.

i used to be a B-52 weapons loader in Barksdale AFB, LA and the truth is when they move the nukes from base to base they can do it by land (truck) or by air. what i mean by air they move it on cargo aircraft( ex. C-5, C-17). But this was a big ups from Af's officials. When we do the Nuclear exercise we are allowed to load real nukes on the aircraft, we can run the engines on the aircraft simulating a real world commitment, BUT they are not allowed to fly real nukes inside the aircraft belly or on the wings thats a threat of WAR!!! thats why people are being "fired" (not really they will force the guy to retire because of his rank) and every one in the pentagon is freaking out.

Could you keep us posted on what you know? You know they have dropped it from the main steam media. Thanks

as of now all Bomber and Fighters in the Continental US will be grounded on September 14th (Sorry BinLaden our Overseas guys will still looking for your a$$) for an AirForce wide shake down. That said they basically will review all they're procedures regarding the Nuclear Weapons and Associated Equipment. For sure will get more secure to avoid another booboo.
