tommie gorman Posted December 20, 2007 CID Share Posted December 20, 2007 But if you really have to they still beat dial up. Just a bit pricy for what you get. Damn glad EVDO came along. No more sat crap.
sorrydishes Posted January 9, 2008 Author CID Share Posted January 9, 2008 Well here it is long past the Holiday's and still not getting my gig of download speeds that is in my contract that I am paying for. Most everyday my download speed high is abt 700 kbps and the lowest being intolerably below 200 kbps. I talked to some long winded tech tonight that stated that AVG,Norton, McAfee etc companies are not compatible with Wild Blue. That they cause most of the problems that consumers are experiencing with WB. OK any one want to have fun with that statement. The other thing when I asked why does Yahoo not accept email from Dishmail this same tech told some cocky story about a spammer who spammed Yahoo late December. Someone needs to tell these techs to get their stories straight. This started several months ago not recently. Also asked why when accessing Dishmail's web site does Explorer pop up with a warning about the certificate of this site...... advising to stop and not proceed. Needless to say this tech was very vocal ( enjoyed hearing himself talk) because he wouldn't stop talking long enough to listen to my questions and answer them with a knowledgeable answer just his opinion about each named company or server issue. I was told that my beam is closed in my area. So is that why my best download speed is 700 now? They say that unlike Hughes they cannot transfer you to another satellite because beams are geographically located per region. So since this is rural Texas does that mean we are permanently stuck with slow speeds and WB overselling bandwidth with false statements to the consumer? I think its time to contact the attorney general in my state.
sorrydishes Posted January 9, 2008 Author CID Share Posted January 9, 2008 Another call to Dishnetwork about their Wild Blue service being so crappy, They stated that my beam was closed in my area and the speed of 700 kbps is probably going to be my best speed download even though I am contracted for 1 gig downloads and that is what I am paying for. The night shift supervisor begged off telling me to call on day shift because the night shift has limited resources. They told me that they only deal with service issues DUH Awhipe what do you think this is? I couldn't even get pages to load this evening about 7 pm,, they stated network busy try again later. Better Buisness ,,, Attorney General,,,, FCC ,,, here I come.
cebjr_2008 Posted January 9, 2008 CID Share Posted January 9, 2008 I understand where you comming from I've had my system since Sept last year, didn't have any problems with it @ all for the first couple months November comes my modem goes out I call them they send me a new one, I'm through Dish Network 2. Then about the middle of December comes I noticed my speed wasen't running as fast as it used to be, I was always hitting 1500 & higher nothing lower then that & my up load was usually about 200 which is not bad, but as soon as December come I haven't been getting any thing over 1200 kbs, which I called them & asked them what was going on I also got a long winded Tech & he told me that there is something wrong on their end not on my end my stuff is working great so it's with them, IDK how many people have been complaining about this but I sure have been, & then to top it all off we got billed for the Sat Modem that we sent back they said they had no record that we sent it back, after about a hour on the phone telling them that I sent it back the same day I got it they finally gave in & put the credit on my account. I just did a test & heres my speed it was about 2:30 am CST should be better then what it is but oh well, ::::::::::.. testmy.net test results ..:::::::::: Download Connection is:: 1014 Kbps about 1.01 Mbps (tested with 1013 kB) Download Speed is:: 124 kB/s Upload Connection is:: 192 Kbps about 0.2 Mbps (tested with 386 kB) Upload Speed is:: 23 kB/s Tested From:: https://testmy.net (Main) Test Time:: 2008/01/09 - 1:39am D-Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-005SW7AZO U-Validation Link:: https://testmy.net/stats/id-IMUZ9VJ0Q User Agent:: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 7.0; Windows NT 5.1; .NET CLR 2.0.50727; .NET CLR 3.0.04506.30) Another thing the Tech told me that this site isn't vary reliable so he told me to use another site & my speed was just about the same so IDK what he was talking about this site is cool, but IDK whats going on with them just seems like something funny is going on. sorrydishes Posted January 9, 2008 Author CID Share Posted January 9, 2008 Are you the top package because I am the middle package with a high end download of 1 gig but at this time the best is 700 download during slow periods. I refuse to give them more money for the higher package when they cannot service this package for the 70.00 per month that I pay now. They have sold out my beam here in Texas and when I leave them here soon they will sell to one more person and make anywhere from 199.00 to 299.00 hook up and not provide what they advertise or promise the poor sucker. I filed a complaint with the state attorney general last night about their misleading sales vs what the consumer actually gets in services. cebjr_2008 Posted January 9, 2008 CID Share Posted January 9, 2008 Yea I have the highest package, becuase of the speed & the Fap thats the only reason I went throught the highest package, but I called them yet again & they offerend me to down grade to the medium package, & that would lower my bill by 10 dollars & then my speed would be cut & my fap would be cut, I don't use all the usage that I have but it's still nice to have if I have to download a big program. But I'm about to call them again cuz they said it would be about a month & my speed hasen't went back up yet they told me that it could take a week to a month to get the last time I talked with them they said something about there gateway is down, so IDK if that has any thing to do with it or not. sorrydishes Posted January 9, 2008 Author CID Share Posted January 9, 2008 It doesn't look to me like they have 3 tiers of service only FAP, your getting the same download and up load speed that I am getting, Looking at going to EDVO since I have cell service already but mine is with ATT and they don't have EDVO per se but HSDPA pcmi cards. Don't know what components to use for networking 2 desktop computers and a laptop but working on getting out of the Hughes and Wild Blue hell-0 that they deal for way too much money for what we get or should I say what we don't get. Tommy G has me thinking here about a better day. Found the card with ATT for $60.00 per month which is cheaper than WB middle package that I have now. ATT said that downloads for the GT MAX was 3.6 mbps.........hummm yea here I go. Kiss this WB and Hughes.
cebjr_2008 Posted January 10, 2008 CID Share Posted January 10, 2008 I wish I could get any thing else but Satellite is the only thing in my area, I've been trying to get DSL but I live out in the sticks, as every one calles it. I've been trying to get DSL or Wirelss or any thing for that matter better then dial up & better then Satellite, but no can do, I can get T1 But thats not cheap, for the lowest price Its over 200 dollars a month & I'm just like yea right ok. But I'm hopeing that we'll get something out here soon, hopefully ne ways.
sorrydishes Posted January 10, 2008 Author CID Share Posted January 10, 2008 Do you have a cell phone that works out there in the sticks?? I know what you mean because that is where I'm at too. No mans land the land that no company wants to invest in. That is why we have these leaches like Wild Blue and Hughes sat systems preying on unsuspecting but oh so wanting consumers. I'm fixing to switch over to a PA card with ATT others are EDVO cards and they run monthly between 50-60 per month no limit or FAP
cebjr_2008 Posted January 10, 2008 CID Share Posted January 10, 2008 Yea I've had my cell phone for over 3 years through Alltel & I get a good signal in my house, but I don't know if they offer any thing for internet & I can get ATT Cell Phone 2, I called & asked them about it. But I called ATT & they told me that there is nothing else they can offer me then the Satellite Internet, which I was like ok, I even asked about T1, I know it's expensive but I still asked them about it & I chatted with a kid sounded like, & he told me that hes never even heard of T1 & that they don't offer T1 any more. I was like ok, but he also told me that they are trying to get every body eithor DSL or Fiber, but I've been waiting for 6 years I've called, & called & called for about 6 years now, & they finally told me that they are starting to work to get us out here in the sticks some sort of high speed. Hopefully they wern't just telling me that.
sorrydishes Posted January 10, 2008 Author CID Share Posted January 10, 2008 no its a wi fi card that u use for laptops to surf while being mobile. Look up EDVO I don't know about Alltel but they may have it. Don't believe them about bringing you into the new mil. on dsl and fiber optics in the sticks. My state hasn't even got the biggest city close to that yet and its been 8 years since they started. I think if you call Alltel about a card for a laptop to access the internet from anywhere they may have a card that wouldn't cost what you are paying now. tommie gorman Posted January 10, 2008 CID Share Posted January 10, 2008 H:ere is what I know as of this moment. Verizon and Sprint are the biggies for now. I have verizon cor my cell phone. But damn if Sprint ain't the good way to go for EVDO. Seriously. So I'd check first with Spriint for the service. I understand the speeds zare better and the service and billing way better and the same price. Plus when I signed up last fall each had their own area. So actually I wasn't given a choice at the time. But EVDO kicks sat's ass. And for the same $$$$$$$$$$ with in a nickel. No more frozen dishes, rainstorms here or anywhere else. In fact it has been spotless as to needing tech service. Except for initial setup, and recently for a resetup due to a reformat. And my CD player had gone down. So yes I needed the assistance. Otherwise its been great.
cebjr_2008 Posted January 10, 2008 CID Share Posted January 10, 2008 Well I called Alltel about getting internet through them gave them all my info & then he said I'm kinda in a in and out place, where the signal comes & goes @ times, So I'm kinda afraid 2 go through them if it isn't going to be any worth having for $59.99 a month, which is cheaper then what I'm paying now, but if it's about as reliable as the Sat then yea I would be better to stay with the sat, I know I can't get cell phone service through Sprint, but I can Verizon, so I don't know if that will help me or not, but doesn't verizon have the EVDO, I'll just have to call & find out 2 day some time gotta get some sleep just got off work,
tommie gorman Posted January 10, 2008 CID Share Posted January 10, 2008 Sprint did offer a free 30 day trial here. It worked ok, so I went on from there. dongo50 Posted May 1, 2008 CID Share Posted May 1, 2008 i have had wb for almost a year now, silver. same problems. usually when it rains it loses signal, sometimes for over an hour. i have had dl's from 0 to 23,477. when i first got it, it was between 500-700, slowly degraded. now is 100-400, mostly around 200-300. the 23,000 was a fluke on thier part i'm sure. i have called them at least 100 times and have spent many hours on the phone with them. had equipment checked and dish re-aligned once. after 90 days you gotta pay $50 for it.my ul's are better, 50-300, mostly around 100. they expect you to know, that if it is raining you will be down for awhile or extremely slow. my neighbor just got hughes and says it's great, dl's 700-1000, but he is not on as often as i am and he has only had it about a month. i basically can have wb, hughes or dial-up, i'm screwed. they also always try to blame it on your computer also. ben1488 Posted November 20, 2008 CID Share Posted November 20, 2008 I've had my system for a year and a half, absolutely 0 problems, no downtime (aside from that one time when the cable was cut down in Texas), slowdowns, or anything.
