mudmanc4 Posted May 3, 2011 CID Share Posted May 3, 2011 Hi TJS , no worries about the other posts , taken care of. As far s the tests , there may be heavy network traffic locally or along your route. Will you perform a traceroute to testmy.net to see where the slow down is and post it ? Windows Start > Run > type CMD [enter] > from the command prompt type tracert google.com and/or tracert testmy.net Linux / Mac Under Applications/Utilities open 'Terminal' > type traceroute google.com and/or traceroute testmy.net Paste those results here. (I know your on Mac, but the above is a macro)

xs1 Posted May 4, 2011 CID Share Posted May 4, 2011 Posts Merged. As far as your results go , id say poor network routing. Definitely looks that way from your trace. Thats why i have about 15 different test site locations i test mine from
TJS Posted May 4, 2011 Author CID Share Posted May 4, 2011 Im in england if that makes any difference, (i know not to mention other speedtests) but on speedtest.net to dallas t.x. i get a good 30 - 35 mb/s on a 50 mb connection
xs1 Posted May 5, 2011 CID Share Posted May 5, 2011 England! lol ya that makes a HUGE difference ! Your speeds to USA are going to be greatly less. Take a look. My results to testmy.net from USA : My results to England (your prefered server) from USA : See the difference? the distance makes a HUGE factor. D; I really didn't think there would be that much difference with there being fiberoptic cables joining the countries i didn't think that means any data was lost
mudmanc4 Posted May 5, 2011 CID Share Posted May 5, 2011 Well as xs1 stated , that is a long way for data to travel , considering it is not nearly all fiber. Sure , the global link is , but think of how many devices that a single packet must traverse through to get there and back. A site such as speedtest , has servers all over the place , so imo , you will get a good test when you test right next door ( as i see from your post ) , see ? TJS Posted May 5, 2011 Author CID Share Posted May 5, 2011 sorry for wasting your time then to upgrade from 50/5 mb/s to 100/10 mb/s is only £10 (~$15 ish) a month extra, would I notice any extra speed to the U.s. do you know; or would be it near enough the same? http://shop.virginmedia.com/broadband/up-to-100mb.html
