MUff1N Posted March 19, 2005 CID Share Posted March 19, 2005 Hey 24k...have you tried this site for your Cablenut settings? I looks at your connection a calculates the setting that you need automatically... http://www.j79zlr.com/cablenutXP2k.php I found that this CSS imput gave me a faster connection than the one that comes with CableNut... Worth a try!
pcalvert Posted March 19, 2005 CID Share Posted March 19, 2005 how do i set this stuff? You should be able to do it using Cablenut; however, I prefer to use "TCP Optimizer." You can find it here: https://www.speedguide.net/downloads.php Click the little button that says "Custom settings" and then change the values for MTU and RWIN. Then click the "Apply changes" button. Very easy. Phil
pcalvert Posted March 20, 2005 CID Share Posted March 20, 2005 im connected at 26.4Kbps right now real connection is probaly 23Kbps dont know MTU or RWIN Ouch. Something is definitely wrong. Are you using a surge supressor between your modem and the telephone jack? I've found that they can degrade performance. You should also try to rule out whether it might be the telephone wiring in your house. Open the network interface box and see if there's a test jack. If so, try plugging your modem in there. You may need to use a bit of an extension in order to reach it. That way you can bypass the house's wiring. BTW, that's how I am connected right now. There's so much static and noise on this house's internal wiring that it's unusable for dialup networking. The wiring is almost too bad to even use for voice communications. cholla Posted April 10, 2005 CID Share Posted April 10, 2005 24Kbps : What is a bonded dial up test? I would like to know.On the wiring pretty simple replace it.Try CAT 3 24g to 18g telephone cable you might go CAT 5 if you have EMI problems. If you don't know what I'm saying do some web surfing to find out there is plenty of info on this on the web. 24Kbps Posted April 10, 2005 Author CID Share Posted April 10, 2005 bonded dial up is like two 64k isdn channels they combine them together but the difference is what "bonded dial up" to me is : 2 Modems + 2 Phone Lines = Doubled dial up speed... my speeds kinda suck when doubled up Most often bonded dial up speeds: 48.0k and 50.4k Least often bonded dial up speeds: 52.8k my lines suck so bad if im lucky i can get 26.4k on 1 line and 26.4k on another line to make it 52.8k but most of the time i get 24.0k and 26.4kbps which is only 50.4k.... it isnt that fast if u think about it... compared to good phone lines anyways are there tests i can have my phone company do to check and see if the wires are bad? i think we have cat 5 in the house but.. im not sure

24Kbps Posted April 11, 2005 Author CID Share Posted April 11, 2005 good idea... isdn fees: 220$ to turn on the isdn line 12.50$ a month for line activity and 30$ ISP charge... Bonded dial up fees: 2 phone line amonth 25$ amonth already have modems that will do bonded dial up( agere modem and conexant modem) usual speeds on these modems doing bonded is: 48k 50.4k rare speeds: 52.8k i dont know...isdn sounds good but little expensive... 128k for 40-45$ a month is a lil spendy EDIT: bonded dial up speed test right now(48.0k) :::..
