3DRiver Posted March 24, 2005 CID Share Posted March 24, 2005 ...For me. I am now downloading at less than average dial-up speeds. (Windows XP). To spare the long story, the representatives indicated that it could by spyware, viruses, blahblahblah. When I told them that this problem is suddenly occurring on my Mac as well, they stopped accusing my loverly VAIO of being the problem. I was taken around the corner and back again; was told several times to do their lousy speedtest, which was frustratingly inaccurate. I kept saying to one rep, "But the test at testmy.net aligns with what I'm actually getting... 19 KB/sec - 48 KB/sec... Your test STINKS!" (lol!) Finally the guy said, "What's that site again?" So he and I both opened testmy.net . Needless to say, he saw "true" scores from this site as well. Another rep admitted that he, too, was receiving very inaccurate speed scores from Verizon's test, and that the scores from testmy.net were accurate. They sent me a new modem, Westell 2200... Problem persisted. AnyHOO, I'm in Philadelphia, frustrated as Hell. I'm on the phone right now to get cable service. Screw this.

3DRiver Posted May 1, 2005 Author CID Share Posted May 1, 2005 You got pwned, hope you like your gaming now with the cable. LOL, I sure did! Yah, I'm enjoying my new download speed... I thought DSL was great (when it worked) until I switched. Even heavy flash files zoom on down.

Marcin541 Posted May 2, 2005 CID Share Posted May 2, 2005 Everyone in the tristate area is affected by this. Verizon simply oversold their services here. They are selling 3mbps to everyone now and they (from what i know) forgot to inform level 3 technitians about the upgrade, That is for the december slowdown, which was caused by a router in San Jose not being able to handle everyone. Right now, i feel pretty damn lucky here in NY. All of us who use Verizon are on the packet routers, but for some strange reason they put me on the empty router and i get pretty good speeds :::.. 3DRiver Posted May 3, 2005 Author CID Share Posted May 3, 2005 You need to tweak that RR. https://testmy.net/topic-4547 I looked at that topic; maybe I missed it, but I didn't see anything telling me how to tweak my settings? I have read about tweaking here, and have never understood it. I always thought that you got what you got. lol How is it done? Everyone in the tristate area is affected by this. Verizon simply oversold their services here. They are selling 3Mbps to everyone now and they (from what i know) forgot to inform level 3 technitians about the upgrade, That is for the december slowdown, which was caused by a router in San Jose not being able to handle everyone. Its 6:30 PM, around the time you all get slowdowns. Ahhh, I would agree with your stats not being bad at all. But for me, downloading at 19 KB/sec (and at times, as low as THREE KB/sec)... was just completely unacceptable. The lack of any viable information from the tech support staff, accompanied with a total of hours wasted after work on the phone... drove me to RR. We can never recover time lost; but we sure as hell can save it up with future downloads! lol
