lorne Posted July 1, 2004 CID Share Posted July 1, 2004 Swimmer is entering the HELL zone. I have never heard anything good about any DELL. I had to fix one for a neighbour last week and it was the biggest pain in the ass i have yet to encounter!!! I hope though that yours works good for you Swimmer Are you still playing BF 1942 or DC?? If you are let me know, i found a really good server to play on with no Smacktards. PM me and i will send you the servers ip. Could have some good games Offer is open to the rest of the TestMy.Net crew to if anybody is interested.

MICROWAVE Posted July 5, 2004 CID Share Posted July 5, 2004 Well I'll probally get blasted for this but I think Dell makes a decent product.....what I think is best about Dell is if it breaks they fix it....even coming to your house to do so.....for the average user they dont know much about tweaking or any of the stuff most of us get off on....but it works great for most people......thats my two sense......lol Microwave

Swimmer Posted July 9, 2004 Author CID Share Posted July 9, 2004 Well day one didnt go so well.... I had problems with my intel wireless card... It turns out that dell installed the wrong drivers for the card when they build the system.... That only took me about 90min to find out... and i got to talk to me best new friend in India... Damn outsourcing... But once I got to talk to a "network" specialist it was smooth sailing I got the driver.. upgraded my firmware on my router and now we are back in business... I will tell you guys one thing... Dell make solid machines spec wise.. but they do some really stupid stuff when it comes to support...I dont know of any Americans that enjoy calling India for tech support... The best part of the entire adventure was that the network guy was in Texas... Anyways... I have to wait for my camera batteries to charge... I will have pics soon! MICROWAVE Posted July 9, 2004 CID Share Posted July 9, 2004 Swimmer, As you found out support is the biggest issue for all electronic devices....and especially computers,,,,so you met our friend in India...hehe I got pissed one time I couldn't understand what the guy was saying ....and he told me he spoke very good English.....so naturally I had to say .....theres the problem I only speak and understand American....lol ...so when I called back it was alot easier(for me anyway)I know its a pain but out of box failures are not uncommon, the good news is you got it working in not much time(for computers anyway)I hear stories all the time that after many days of screwing around ...it gets packed up and sent back to factory for a longterm visit.....but of course you got a Dell and they come to your house to fix if necessary:):) Microwave

Swimmer Posted July 12, 2004 Author CID Share Posted July 12, 2004 It is a pretty solid machine... It is large but still portable... I like it a lot so i guess that is all that matters... I think I am going to put it up against a 64bit hp that my friend just bought.... 1.8 centrino vs. 3000+ 64bit We will see
junkieXL Posted July 13, 2004 CID Share Posted July 13, 2004 IMPRESSSIVE notebook for sure....i used Dell here at home until i got bored enough to build this Tornado3000 frankenstein & currently i maintain 42 Dell workstations at my job so i guess you can call me a "fan" of the Texas billionaire~! Plus the fact that Michael Dell had the balls to offer Linux installs alongside the typical MS rubbish, two thumbs up & a glass of VSOP enjoy & be well -JxL
