duke Posted May 18, 2005 CID Share Posted May 18, 2005 Hi there. First time poster, long time reader. I just signed on with Roadrunner Lite and my transfer rates are horrible. I am only operating at 6% of rr's total. My dl is something ridiculous like 244kps. I know it's the cheaper slow package but what can I do? duke Posted May 18, 2005 Author CID Share Posted May 18, 2005 Oh, and I tried all of the suggestions in the sticky and then some. Nothing speeds it up.
richcornucopia Posted May 18, 2005 CID Share Posted May 18, 2005 What are you paying for "rr lite" and what are your speeds supposed to be?
duke Posted May 18, 2005 Author CID Share Posted May 18, 2005 For the first six months, I'm paying $19.99.
richcornucopia Posted May 18, 2005 CID Share Posted May 18, 2005 Hmm Ive never heard of road runner lite, most people who subscribe to rr get 5/384. Where are you located? If you want more speed you should call up Time Warner and ask if they have a faster package.
duke Posted May 18, 2005 Author CID Share Posted May 18, 2005 I'm in L.A. Yeah, they have a faster package, I was just weary of the price. I thought that at least RR Lite would match SBC dsl. Not a chance. It's more like "dial-up plus" broadband.
richcornucopia Posted May 18, 2005 CID Share Posted May 18, 2005 If you dont feel like paying the price of the normal road runner package, then maybe sbc dsl would be a good choice for you. Its got decent speed and is fairly cheap...
duke Posted May 18, 2005 Author CID Share Posted May 18, 2005 I would have stayed with SBC but they don't service the area I just moved to. The only broadband option is RR, unless I want to use dial-up.
richcornucopia Posted May 19, 2005 CID Share Posted May 19, 2005 Well if you want more speed then your gonna have to upgrade your rr package.
duke Posted May 23, 2005 Author CID Share Posted May 23, 2005 Ok, I upgraded to the standard package and now get BLAZING speeds of 4.5 to 5 MBps. I even clocked in at over 7% of the typical RR subscriber. Nice to see I was in the red.
FallowEarth Posted May 24, 2005 CID Share Posted May 24, 2005 RR lite i think is 2/168 or something close
DJVageli Posted May 24, 2005 CID Share Posted May 24, 2005 Isnt it 256/128? I heard it was a real downgrade from their normal service
FallowEarth Posted May 24, 2005 CID Share Posted May 24, 2005 Isnt it 256/128? I heard it was a real downgrade from their normal service nope, its still about 2Mbps down
DJVageli Posted May 24, 2005 CID Share Posted May 24, 2005 Oh ok,2Mbps is not too bad, what about its price,it should be like $20-25 right,it only makes sense
FallowEarth Posted May 24, 2005 CID Share Posted May 24, 2005 Yeah about that I think, its quite rare....TWC/RR uses it as a downsell tactic when somebody is "paying too much for service" or "doesn't want all that speed" or something....it's decent. duke Posted May 26, 2005 Author CID Share Posted May 26, 2005 RR Lite is 19.95 a month for the first 6 months, then 29.95. The speed is I think 386/128. However, it never clocks in at that. It's good for emailers but not for people that need bandwidth.
TheHated Posted May 26, 2005 CID Share Posted May 26, 2005 Ok, I am subscribed to Sympatico High speed, it's suposed to be 3 Mbps but I always only get 2Mbps or lower. I used to have everyday 3Mbps and download speeds of 370 KB/s or abit lower but now I only get 170 KB/s MAX. I tried to speed it up with the tihngs you told to do with Cablenut and all that stuff and it doesn't seem to get any faster... Can you help me? resijs Posted May 30, 2005 CID Share Posted May 30, 2005 Make a new topic, this one is about Road Runner Lite. Guys, keep in mind that you are competing against the "Highest" speeds your provider can dish out with that percentile thing.
