wingzero2309 Posted June 8, 2005 CID Share Posted June 8, 2005 Well...this kind of sucks...my parents are basically switchin us internet service providers to SBC Yahoo (from RR) because fukin timewarner keeps raising their fukin prices. I'm gettin 5 Mbps w/RR (we're paying 49.99/month....SBC is going to be 29.99/month but i have no idea what their speeds are...)...and i have a feelin that I wont even get half this speed with SBC Well, what can I expect from sbc--or dsl in general? Also, will my wireless-g router work w/dsl? p.s. i think all telemarkets should die and burn and then have their guts eaten by hungry dogs!!!! its all their fault!!!! tbaker397 Posted June 8, 2005 CID Share Posted June 8, 2005 im guessing its their 3 meg service since its not 15 or 20 bucks. You also need to know how far away from the CO or an RT you are to you can get certain speeds. If you are over 9000 feet(i think) you cant get the 3 meg service. And yes, your router will work, just do it the exact same way you have it now: phone line into modem, modem into router, router to computers, thats just instead of co-ax cable into modem. and not ALL telemarketers are bad. I was using Direcway for going on 15 months(well out of the 12 month contract we had to sign) and my parents WOULD NOT make the switch to adelphia then one day 'Tom' from adelphia calls and 15 minutes later we have free professional installation the next week and a 21.95 price tag for 3 months and then to 26.
wingzero2309 Posted June 8, 2005 Author CID Share Posted June 8, 2005 idk how far we live from the telephone company but yea...i know not all of them are bad...but im pissed...on an average day...the telemarketer calls to actual people ratio is probably....3:1, if not more home phones are like hotmail accounts...a big junk collector cell phone only is the way to go

cholla Posted June 8, 2005 CID Share Posted June 8, 2005 wingzero2309:If you are being bothered by telemarketers you need to go to the site below & register you home phone number .I did this over a year ago & I get almost no telemarketing calls. They can still call if you have a prior business relationship with them.So it doesn't stop 100% but it really helps. http://www.ftc.gov/donotcall/ Here is a distance finder for the distance to your co. http://www.dslreports.com/prequal/distance The best way is to call SBC it is more accurate DSL still depends on distance to the Co or RT. wingzero2309 Posted June 9, 2005 Author CID Share Posted June 9, 2005 SBC=A bunch of dishonest SCUMBAGS The lady called today, and i talked to her this time, and she said the service she was offering was 1.5 Mbps service for 26/month. Hew Jass Posted June 9, 2005 CID Share Posted June 9, 2005 Too bad. I had Comcast till today.. horrible, HORRIBLE ping times. I got SBC this morning and works like a charm. I'm paying 15 bux for the 1.5 package and getting 1.3, pretty good. and pings are below 30 constantly.. I get 11 on my CSS game server. I'm so glad I got it. (no I don't work for SBC)

LilAznHobo Posted June 27, 2005 CID Share Posted June 27, 2005 yeh sbc are lieing mofo. i called them and they try to rip me off also, by making the rates higher. they say the pro plan was $35 instead of the $25 promotional price. i just said yeh watever and hung up. i called again and luckily i got a nicer person who agreed i was right. i got the pro price for $25 and running at 2.5ish mbs down and 400k+ upload. was running at 1.3 mbs down but since the new prices came out i had to upgrade! you just have to get around those scum bags that try to rip u off, but theres always those nice honest ppl that work there. The lower prices are for people who sign-up online only...that may be why you get higher price quotes over the phone.

I've helped out several folks on the other side of the county that's served by SBC, and SBC does a very credible job of providing DSL. Kinda wish I had SBC here on the wrong side of the county tracks. My VZ DSL works well, it's just $5 a month more ! Oh well, YMMV.
