Dark_Matter Posted July 15, 2005 CID Share Posted July 15, 2005 uncap your connection speed? improving your connection so you can achive an advertised package is one thing trying to uncap a limit set by your isp is illegal, and probably not something 99.9% of even experienced people can do. unkn0wndj Posted July 15, 2005 CID Share Posted July 15, 2005 Actually it's not that hard to uncap your modem I know a lot of people that can do it. Obviously it's illegal so its not worth it. But yeah anyways you mean "optimize" not uncap.

Guest helloimtim Posted July 15, 2005 CID Share Posted July 15, 2005 With what I see I do not believe tweaking your connection is gonna fix that problem. I myself run dsl with windows xp service pack 2. If there is one thing I have learned is this. Tweaking dsl with windows xp is a BAD idea. Xp is pretty tweaked out for dsl. I would try this. Reset your modum. Unplug it and turn off your computer. Wait 2 min then plug in the modum. Wait 2 more min then boot up your pc. Also I assume you have a good anti viurs and spyware program. If the modum trick does not work try this. Reboot your computer hit and hold f8. Start in safe mode with networking. It will take some time for your computer to boot up. Run a virus scan and spyware scan while in safe mode. If you have 2 diffriend anti virus and or spyware programs run them both. See if that is the problem. One last idea. http://readerror.gmxhome.de/ Download this handy free meter. Make sure your online with no browser open. Run the meter and give it say 5 or 10 min and see if you have allot going out or comming in to your computer. I am willing to bet you do. Let us know if that helped. If not may have another idea or 2.......
Shug7272 Posted July 16, 2005 CID Share Posted July 16, 2005 Aight I shouldnt tell you this but I will.... shhh... dont tell nobody. Ok if you have a broadband modem of anykind the easiest way to uncap it is the same. Get one gallon of water and mix in two tablespoons of salt, a pack of gum, two lubricated condoms and some ether. Now add 3lbs dry ice and very carefully stick your head in the solution. Leave it there untill the tingling stops. Now run the speed test again. Good luck. Blunted Posted July 26, 2005 CID Share Posted July 26, 2005 your gonna get caught trying to uncap and even if you did they'll get you on there end. dsl is also because un-cappable cause its speed is limited by distance and most people dont live very close to the central office to get those crazy speeds anyway. Orignal_Cronicus Posted July 26, 2005 CID Share Posted July 26, 2005 lol from what i understanding when a line is caped it is because the network is runing a rough say 100000mb over a part of the city, they change the caps when there shure the net can handle it ussualy when the net service has been upgraded kinda like when i uipgraded from residental net to comericla they had to uncap my line from 5 i think and move it to 7 but even though u can take more overhead bandwidth and put it to live use, ull never reach ur advertised speed ules ur isp kicks ass or u have $1500 to lay a t1 line when the line is caped its usually because thats the max for ur service type of bandwidth u can get to alow equal bandwidth to all and not to mention, helps networks to run right, if u uncap ur line ur basicly stealing from either the network, or ppl around u if u think about it for tha reason ur isp will pick it up almost instantly just think what woul;d happen is everone uncaped there net, everones net would basicly become slower and the stronger the net the more net ud proly get
