The good news: If you've survived Hurricane Katrina, the government will let you register for help online. The bad news: But only if the computer you're using is running Windows.

Yes, it turns out that to make a claim with the Federal Emergency Management Agency's Individual Assistance Center, your Web browser must be Microsoft

probably some security issue or other. besides, number of people running macs or linux: unimportant. even more so since most people making use of that will have lost their comp or be without power iternet anyway, so they will use an internet cafe to do so. and most of those run win.

For those of you that think Microsoft is evil, you might want to investigate what the employees have been doing to help the people of the region.  Everyone is so quick to trash them.

You also might want to check the page at http://www.fema.gov/register.shtm which is the subject of Gary KraKow's article.  It states they are modifying the page to support other browsers.  You can also pick up the phone and call.

Since Microsof had nothing to do with the FEMA page, why don't you just blast the government and leave it at that.  FEMA obviously needs improvement.

I dont think that MS is evil.. I happen to run their product on all of my machines.. I just think that it is funny that after the US government, which FEMA is a part of, suit them for a monopoly.. they then turn around and require only IE6 on a government form.. so much for progress..  I am not sure what has to be done to get the browser to display a page.. unless they are using some activex control there should be no need for the delay..
