Marcin541 Posted November 27, 2004 CID Share Posted November 27, 2004 Verizon? Ive been trying to upgrade for a long time already. I called in like a week ago telling them i wanted to upgrade my current dsl to 3/768. The man upgraded me and all, but i didnt get my speeds. I called in again and they told me i needed to sign up for 1 more year (cancelling my current year which meant sending back my current modem), and i needed to get their new modem/router. I asked if i could keep my old modem which would be doing them a favor, and they said no. I said i'd think about it. Is it really worth getting? I heard that the modem/router overheats or something and you cant leave it on 24/7. Do you have to pay $34.95 after the 1 year is over? Any hidden charges? I know you and FishNET have that plan, any feedback is appreciated. P.S. Sorry for going off topic : /
Nymostwanted21 Posted November 27, 2004 CID Share Posted November 27, 2004 Yes, Verizon. To be honest, I have not been able to use the modem they supply because UPS made a mistake and ship it back to them. All I do know, is that some people have had trouble using SP2 with the versalink. The upgrade is definetly a huge difference! You will not be let down. I must warn you, when you get switched over, your data path will be switched to Interleaved, meaning higher pings Overall, service is great! * Also Sorry To Go Off-Topic.*
Marcin541 Posted November 27, 2004 CID Share Posted November 27, 2004 So i will get higher pings with the newer, faster service? One again, sorry for offtopic
Nymostwanted21 Posted November 28, 2004 CID Share Posted November 28, 2004 Yes, Higher Pings Luckily, you just have to call about you having a slow download. They will file a ticket and switch you over to fast path, thus, reducing pings. Thats what I did.. My first hop is 5ms. I am very happy with service. Mr. Hahn Posted December 2, 2004 CID Share Posted December 2, 2004 Is DC++ a BitTorrent client? Are hubs basically big chat rooms?
VanBuren Posted December 2, 2004 CID Share Posted December 2, 2004 Is DC++ a BitTorrent client? Are hubs basically big chat rooms? Its not a BT client, try it out here http://dcplusplus.sourceforge.net/ its a big chatroom and you can do global search for files on every user in the hub, or you can download file list for a specific user. Mr. Hahn Posted December 2, 2004 CID Share Posted December 2, 2004 Is there no way to search all hubs for the file you're looking for? It's pretty frustrating because it's hit and miss on whatever you want. EDIT: Actually, I can't even get connected to a hub. Why is the sharesize to get in one so large? I don't have 15 and 20GB of things to share...
xs1 Posted December 2, 2004 CID Share Posted December 2, 2004 Most hubs do want 15 gb and up. Hell theres some hubs that want 175 gb + .. its crazy.

I dont think there is any way to search all hubs at same time I think its good with a 15 GB limit, a hub with 1000 users then has 15 000 GB of data to download. and you can connect to several hubs at same time, alot of hubs require you to have 3 uploadslots (so that 3 users can dl from you), i total shate 9 slots that makes it possible to join atleast 3 hubs. that give you atleast this 3 x 15000 = 45 000 GB of data to choose from. Mr. Hahn Posted December 2, 2004 CID Share Posted December 2, 2004 I'm familiar with the hub thing now. You can pretty much find any file if you connect to a bunch of hubs, and downloads are pretty fast from people with a LAN connection. I never got downloads higher then 20KB/s on BT (3-5KB/s most of the time though). This is so much better.
Marcin541 Posted December 2, 2004 CID Share Posted December 2, 2004 Maybe you can copy + paste the same stuff all over just to connect?
Mr. Hahn Posted December 2, 2004 CID Share Posted December 2, 2004 I don't think that's possible. DC++ works in a different method than BitTorrent does. You go into one of the hubs(chat rooms), do a search to see if anyone has the file you're looking for, and download it from them. It's a one on one transaction. I have six hubs I connect to and get my files from now. In case any of you are thinking that you have to talk to people to search for a file after reading the above, that's false. Everyone's files are indexed. You just do a search like in any other P2P program.
just- Posted December 2, 2004 CID Share Posted December 2, 2004 So whats urs guys favourite Van what you use? Mr. Hahn you a DC++ guy? .s1 what about you I'm personally a Bittorrent fan and user D it rocks
VanBuren Posted December 2, 2004 CID Share Posted December 2, 2004 i use DC++ only, i tryed alot of other p2p programs but i like this best. these is my fav hubs maximumspeed10mbit.no-ip.org maximumspeed-bbb.no-ip.org bbb.ancient.se fenix.dnsalias.net alliance10mbit.myftp.org 10-1.lightnetwork.org thehubness.no-ip.org:1090 (.s1 hub) 2 of the hubs i use to connect to is 10 Mbit only, so all has to have atleast 10 Mbps upstream aswell. mainly Swedish hubs, but lately i connect to .s1 hub aswell. Mr. Hahn Posted December 2, 2004 CID Share Posted December 2, 2004 As I said, I've gotten nothing but slow downloads on BitTorremt. Kazaa Lite is all I used up until recently. I'd say I like DC++ the most now. The fast downloads, chat, intuitive interface, and the making people share GBs of data just to download are great. Strange thing is alot of ppl in the US cant get any speed fom my server and not to forget RTB, he dl faster overseas then from me, but it has been some routing issues between our ISP
