  1. 20 000 to be exact.
  2. sure you can. there's plenty of sites that tell you how to uncap cabke modems. btw, bubba wants to know if you're any good at picking up soap? he plans to teach you anyway, but he likes fresh meat...
  3. you have an advertised speed of 4 mb down and are running at capacity no matter what you do?
  4. how the hell does that finance itself. 1tb free or 1tb with larger attachments and pop3/imap for 30 bucks onetime? where is the catch?

  6. just remember, people will automatically try to give you the runaround, but do your best to be courteous non the less. smile on the phone. people can hear that. if they are treated with respect they will be more likely to do the same for you if you just rant at them, they will take your complaint and put it in the round file. (words of wisdom brought to you by an anger management anonymous member that never gets past step 2)
  7. they are. do the smartest. if you are fast enough you'll get them. maybe they aren't directly selectable to keep people with slow dsl or even dialup from waiting till they're blue in the face for em to finish?
  8. hm. durn. put it back in the high position and you have the same problem?
  9. under http://www.wildblue.com/legal/fair.jsp they give the limits up and down per rolling 30 days. (3up 10down for value pak) then throttles to 128/28 from what i read anything rolling over off the back of the 30 days becomes available again. once fapped the 128/28 link sounds good compared to dialup that is rarely in the high twenties. thanks for the help, i think this thread can be locked now.
  10. do the remove battery, jumper reset pair thingy again, then remove the speed jumper completely and see what the bios says.
  11. how does the 10 gig/30days lift? if they hit the 10gig, the next day they have as much fap available as they downloaded 30 days ago, the day that 'fell off the back'? that sounds troublesome. if they (the in-laws) for whatever reason dl 10 gigs in 5 days they have to wait 25 days for the speed to be back up?
  12. that would be due to the 'reset' you did.
  13. thanks! great link. wb being relatively new there is nothing of the kind yet?
  14. if you can get it to work, sure. if not, and if ytou rent it, your isp should have a more current model. and the thing seems to have some nice features, looks kinda neat, and that wave stuff is something i havent seen anywhere else. so if you can get it to work, fine. if not, see if you can get a free replacement. if not, then ask which models the isp recommends from their experience and ask for opinions on those here.
  15. use a bigger hammer.
  16. i'll be damned. the thing does appear to have routing functions. download the getting started pdf and look at chapter 5. you can have multiple comps attached via a hub. that means the thing should be a router. you can disable internet access for sertain devices in there. hook the comps up to the router and the router to the modem. go to the list of devices page it displays and see if only the router or all devices appear in the list. if all do, disable access for the non routrer devices. (better yet if you have a hub use that instead of the router. or try connecting the modem to the router using not the wan port but just one of the normal internal net ports so the modem does the routing. just some things to try out, see what happens. off topic, the wav files for modem events sounds like a cool feature!
  17. a free replacement from the isp would be favorite.

  19. sat is the only option. it's in the hills in pr, we have fancy schmancy wireless only in the san juan metro area afaik. even cell service sucks up where they are. so if ya have the faps and maybe avg speeds for the dway packs it would be appreciated. (i know dway works here, not sure about wb.)
  20. send me 2. when i find drivers for them i will let you know. but seriously. no stickers on the outside, anywhere? not just on the front panel, i mean on the top bottom, sides, somewhere? and if they're ide, connecting them and starting windows might well let windows detect what they are. that will clue you in on where to hunt for drivers.
  21. hm. are you renting this thiong from the isp? get a new one.
  22. what are the fap policies for the different dway and wb account levels? inlaws live in the sticks and want something faster than their dialup that gets max 26k due to shoddy lines.
  23. if you move the cursor onto the clockspeed setting, what does the item help say? and post a picture of the other setup pages as well. also, reset the admin and user passwords. just hit return on an empty mask, that should disable them.
  24. start cablenut, hit dlete cable nut settings, save to registry, reboot. this will reset you to os defaults. then pick the cablenut file closest to what you have and try that.
  25. mrrm. all i can think of is to go through the bios hunting for things like safe defaults, steeings auto/manual, things like that. something that lets you switch between autodetected settings and manual settings, where the manual settings unblock the fsb. kind of like auto/manual settings for ram timing.
