how to change from usb to ethernet
resopalrabotnick replied to fattymcbluff's topic in Make it Faster...
what surprises me is two things: 1. why would an installer go through the trouble of hooking up usb and then installing drivers instead of just hooking up ethernet and being done? 2. being readers of this site why did you let the installer anywhere near the modem/comp holding a usb cable and driver cd? the only reason i could think of for an installer doing that (besides being a complete idiot) is that the isp has them do it to cripple the connection to keep the user from using up too much bandwidth on the line. -
i don't know what internet you use, mine doesn't have any malware/adware/spyware/viruses on it. it might well be the mother of that trojan looking for infected systems to integrate into it's bot collective.

hm. as a first step i would take the cable modem usb cable and hold it out the window. then i would set fire to the lower end and enjoy the sight of it going up in smoke. (careful, burning bits of plastic may drip down). then i would take an ethernet cable and hook the pc up to the modem with that and see what happens.

polarization = or <> is irrelevant. one is sending, one is receiving, they don't touch each other. H/V is simply a way to use the same freq twice in the same direction. even if he Tx/Rx on the same freq at same polarization there should be no interference.

ok. they can't find you. the cable provider looks and sees a sgment of his net sucking more bandwidth than it should. maybe because other customers on the net complain. so he compares all mac-addresses on that segment to a list of mac addresses known to be the modems that are supposed to be on it. by simple process of elimination the offending mac address is located. it is then a small thing to go out to the street and locate the wire that leads to the offending modem. this information then gets forwarded to the DA's office. Damn, you are hard to catch. (btw, stealing connections off of a landline based net on which connections can be physically traced by following the wire is a good way to become the quicker-picker-upper for that prison issue bar of dial. post here what slam they stick you in, i'll send you a family-sized tub of lard to ease the pain.)

you have cigarrettes that can install modems? can you send me a pack? i need some gophers to help me repai/upgrade comps. shut down comp. power down modem. unplug usb. plug in network cable. both ends. maybe a crossover. check documentation on that. start the modem. wait for it to sync. if it doesn't sync, place it in deeper water. power up the pc. see what happens. report back. have a nice day. -
if you do filesharing and the like you should get a static ip. it makes it easier to track you and in many cases you will get some time off your sentence for cooperating with the authorities in this way.

in all likelyhood the board in the notebook is hardwired for just that processor. saves money.
-
you will pretty much be stuck with the options the mfr offers. go to their website and see what upgrades they still sell. processor unlikely, ram and hd more likely.

old enough to know and having driven in cold weather enough that the only difference between letting it idle to warm it up and driving carefully (meaning of course not redlining it, going easy on the throttle etc. etc. etc.) until you see the temp coming off the bottom peg is that letting it idle: is worse in regards to wear since the engine warms up slower than when being driven is econlogically unsound since you're just wasting gas and idling a cold engine makes the engine comp use a richer mix making the exhaust pollute worse. lets people nick your ride (ok, sorry, couldn't resist the barb though) the only idling i ever let my car do after starting it in cold weather is the 1 or 2 minutes to get rid of the ice on the windshield and mirrors, at least enough to let me see for the first few minutes until the car heats up and melts the rest. by cold i mean about -20 C or colder.

so how about you start the car and drive off? it'll start heating in a few minutes. and besides, them's nice temps for a sweatshirt and a windbreaker.

sounds to me like they need to roll back every transaction made in the time period in questio. all bids, paypals etc. etc.

when nato opened up an hq in stettin, poland, i forget what year it was, the evil reputation concerning car theft by poles came to be true. the nato paople from western countries were losing a car a week or more. it got so bad that the base commander, a pole btw, went to the local police honcho to have them patrol all the places the soldiers lived off base to keep the theft down. even funnier was that it is a fairly long drive for most of them to get there in the first place, and speeding in europe can quickly get your license suspended. so people either had their cars nicked or their licenses revoked. they ended up carpooling the people that got their cars nicked with the ones that lost their license, lol.

a brand new rx-7? that sounds like more than a few years...
-
did he put that in the report? if he was very very nice he might have forgotten...
-
while it sucks that your ride got ripped off, at least you got it back. and dude, you left the car outside running for 20 minutes? be sure not to tell that to the insurance dude unless it's already in the police report. putting a claim on the stolen gear is almost like trying to commit insurance fraud.

arrgh. at the point where they start bundling vid cards with psu's someone should or the responsible developers. granted, faster is better, but 150+ watts power consumption (that all gets turned into heat) per card? that's more cooking power than a lightbulb powered ez-bake oven! at the point where you can heat your dinner on your video subsystem something has gone awry. seriously.
