since you dl'ed it i guess you bought the emergency download version. this is what the instructions on the site say so you use your 5-day emergency key to install on a machine with nero or the like and make a bootable to rescue your broken comp.

Wildly fluctuating speeds - is this normal?
resopalrabotnick replied to saskojec's topic in Make it Faster...
looks like it should be ok on your end. if powercycling the modem helps it could be a problem with the modem, more likely it is a problem on their network. if the network is logjammed with traffic your speeds will drop. like the timed out pings in the ping and traceroute when slower. call tech support, if they tell you the problem is on your side, ask for a supervisor. somebody should be able to either have somebody replace the modem (but i don't think that is the problem) or just admit that they are having general speed issues. if that is the case then ask for a credit. be nice, otherwise there's no chance of a credit at all. finding out that they have a general issue won't help you, but at least you will know that you can stop troubleshooting your system. btw, have you checked for adware/spyware/virii/trojans and other baddies? -
the thread being about getting winmx running i think makes it about sharing copyright protected materials, unless you are one of the few that believe that all people use p2p networks for is to distribute shareware and open source software. with the terabytes shoveled over p2p every minute being all share/opensource stuff, it's surprising linux and co don't have more market share, since everyone seems to have everything ever coded for it twice.

it /is/ funny. it's just such an obvious edit. if you know what i mean.

what's the other hdd? if it is of a similar generation as the new one, you should hook those two as master/slave on the primary ide and the cd on the secondary. although i will admit that most hdds and cds nowadays run in the fastest transfer modes anyway so juggling shouldn't be necessary at all.

why is it that you think the worst of me? i am hurt.

what other drives do you have. cable select is the safe option, means you don't worry about what plug on the cable you use. just format it with windows. if you feel the need to wait, check the mfr website to see if they have a low level format utility. but low leveling can in some rare cases screw up the drive.

yanno, photoshopping is nica and all, but at least look at the pic first to sea if there is some feasibility at all. the guy is in like 2 feet of water. the shark, judging by the size of the head, should be a 12 to 15 footer. now where in that shallow watr is the rest of the shark, or is the guy supposed to be standing just in front of a vertical drop in the seafloor. puleeeeze.

ok, the ethernet you use to connect direct to the modem seems to be ok. use that one to connect the router to the modem. before you do that, test other cables by direct connecting to the modem with them and find another that doesn't slow you down. use that to connect just your comp to the router. now test if you get full speed if not, you are now sure the cables are not the problem. if you have more than one comp connected, make sure the others are not running any connections while you test speeds. (those illegal filesharing things will happily steal all your upstream.)

help!! i'm getting hacked, pretty sure..

mh. interesting point. :haha: tell them the logs are from your pc firewall. then again, it might be your isp trying to keep you from running apache... -
first of all, return the router you bought if the dlink one is covered by warranty. and i agree, swap cables around. it sounds like a bad cable/connector.

Wildly fluctuating speeds - is this normal?
resopalrabotnick replied to saskojec's topic in Make it Faster...
if you get the speeds, it doesn't look like there is something wrong on your end. read the 2 links in my sig, post all the info, once when you're fast, once when you're slow. you mayu be experiencing slowdowns due to heavy traffic on your providers net. and if the tech asks you to reformat the drive again, ask for a supervisor. it sounds like a pile of stinking bs to me. -
