that 30 gig business model has to be based on people sing on average only a few hundred megs at most. just 333 users would mean they need a TB of storage on hand. i'll bet that anyone using more than 2.5 gigs, which they can mirror out to a gmail account, get's shut down. or something like that if you want e-mail with lots of storage, imap access, forwards etc. look at what webhosters are offering. you will get a few hundred megs of ftp storage, webspace, a domain or two, a bunch of e-mails, all for just a few bucks a month.

first of all, if this is a day one thing, bestbuy has to give you some support, at least they have to point you in the direction of e-machine support. 2nd. if you have cable why do you have aol. get rid of it. back up any data you have collected (documents pictures valuable Pr0n etc. and reinstall. do not reinstall aol. contact aol(this will take multiple attempts) and tell them you do not want to keep paying 24.95 a month for BS.

well, read the 2 links in my sig, post all the info.

i concur on leavong room in the board for more ram, having the latest drive connectors etc. as for being able to upgrade the cpu, history shows that that is hopeless. you can hope to do a jump of maybe 1 ghz max with the socket you buy. anything faster, better with a new architechture will force you to buy a new board anyhow. and by the time you feel it's time to upgrade the cpu, everything else will be slow too, so you might as well plan on getting a whole new box with board, cpu, ram video card etc. after all, the next step up from pci-e is already announced for 2k7.

i understand your problem and my suggestion was interpreted correctly. you hgave a fixed install, hence no need for wireless and all its headaches. run that one cable, and use a switch in your room for the comp and laptop. (if you have central a/c there is a perfect cabling duct right there...)

you said the magic word. /current/ cable tech. but if you're hooked up to hastily cobbled together 3 generations old cable tech that is oxidizing away in shoddy weatherproofing you can holler for an upgrade til you're blue in the face. it just ain't gonna come till that part of the net has so many failures that the cost of upgrading is finally lower than the cost of keeping the old gear working. it will always be the case that the newest installations have the newest gear and the highest speed. -
allergy? no idea. google for it. ask a vet. stop feeding it to the cat?
-
is it raw or cooked? if cooked, check the ingredients to see if there is any funny stuff in it, google the brand and crazy cat to see if anything turns up?
-
off topic. organ shifter, are them smilies public domain or bought or spyware dependent? would the license for them enable ca3le to put them here?
-
there you go. told you i was just guessing.

i show him as dec 25. just before midnight. and i am on atlantic time atm, eastern time +1. so it looks like he came in late on the 25th. -
not sure what your exact problem is, but i have a suggestion for you. the router is 2 floors down. is there a way to run a cable from it to the room you use the laptop and desktop in? it might be worth the effort to run a cable from the router to the room and set up a switch there for the laptop and desktop to connect to. this is faster than wireless and also more secure.

if it seems defective and you are renting it talk to them to replace it, if it is bought, talk to them anyway and see if there is a warranty.

hm. traceroute looks fine. speed problem could be just an overload on the isp's network. is the speed constantly low or does it vary with the time of day?
-
post a traceroute to testmynet
-
you can't erase it, but you can install girlfriend 1.0 over wife 1.0. this will cause a conflict and wife 1.0 will remove itself. it will however take most of your current and future posessions and the children, dogs and cats with it.

:haha: if you were that far from an exchange you wouldn't be able to get dsl at 2 Mb. ask em about it again and if they try to feed you the same line ask for a supervisor. but be nice. then see if they have something in the way of fastpath (that is a routing option for dsl that gives faster pings) or can do something about the long ping some other way. dsl should /not/ be that slow to ping to the first hop outside your net.

A new Virus has been detected. It carries the codename "work". should you receive work from a colleague, boss or other source via e-mail or in other form do not execute it! "work" will destroy your entire social life! If you receive "work" take at least 2 good friends with you to the nearest bar and order a round of drinks. repeating this ten to fifteen times will completely erase "work" from your thoughts. Send this warning to at least five friends. Should you have less than five friends that is a sure sign that you already got infected with "work" and should take steps immediately.
-
that is a mighty long ping on your first hop to the isp. call them and ask em about it and inquire if they have a fastpath option.
-
frankly that depends on the isp. post a tracerout to the site you tested against to see if there is any long hops in there, try just plain downloading from a site close to you and see what kind of speeds you get, maybe play around with the settings cablenut makes. also post a traceroute here. there should be some improvement possible, at least theoretically, but you /are/ pretty close and you have to remember that caps on dsl are usually pretty close to what is advertised and there is an overhead to the transmission that slightly reduces the net speed achieved.

full-time. i'm sorry if i interrupted your feeble attempt to get people to admit to uncapping modems. (maybe you shouldn't have claimed to be affiliated with them before?) and speaking of resumes, you should either sign it handwritten or like so: the way you did it could be misunderstood as a personal attack, which is one of the things frowned upon here, along with spamming multiple threads with the same post. and yelling. hm. calling me an asshole, spamming and yelling. three strikes. you're out! -
sp2 isn't strictly needed. generally it is a good idea to install it though. so you connect to the router via a network cable? firmware should be available from the manufacturers websites. (there are modified firmwares out there to boost wireless range and whatnot. shouldn't play with those until the connection is fast and stable) try connecting computer directly to modem, retest speeds. have you called the isp to find out if they are having problems? also make sure that since you are running dsl all the filters in the house are properly installed, the phone line is connected properly to the modem and the like. try uinplugging all phones and see if that changes anything.
-
bought a new phone line? you mean a new cord in the house? with phone line quality being relevant he meant the line from the telco to you. all the connections on switches, the state of the cables, gauge of cables, interference on cables etc. etc. etc. playing into that. if you've got a cruddy line to your house you can pass the signal to the comp through gold ingots and it won't affect your speed. well, ok, it will slow you down because gold, while being good as a contact because of it's softness doesn't actually conduct all that well. but you get the general idea. or not. doesn't matter. have a nice day.
-
but posting fast speed tests under dway... tsk, tsk, tsk. that's like running across a bull pasture wearing a red shirt.
-
welcome. there's 2 links in my sig. read em. post info gathered. have a nice day!
