  2. read the 2 links in my sig, p[ost all pertinent info, don't bother double posting, throw a first request for help in general discussion, someone will see it.
  3. read the 2 links in my sig, post all the required info.
  4. i bet he loves it. right up to the point that the first 747 tries to land on his roof. frickin fantabulous lightshow.
  5. if it snowed here in PR half the population would die instantly in traffic accidents, the way they drive here. if the temp goes below 80, people start wearing jackets. :haha:
  6. google for turducken. that's a good recipe.
  7. i made a new thread yesterday to keep this topic out of the name thread. just in case y'all didn't see it.
  8. since you are using the connection for a business, (i am inferring that you get paid by the users of the internet cafe) you might want to con5tact your isp to purchase a business plan w/o volume caps and probably better speeds than the residential plan you seem to be currently using. also check the terms of service for your plan, you may not be allowed to use it in the way you currently are.
  9. fine, they suck. but do they swallow? inquiring minds want to know.
  10. the best way to max out your mtbf is actually to leave it running 24/7. the one thing that huirts a hard drive most is spinning up/down. once it's at operating rpm, the bearings are at just the state they are designed for, there is no strain on the motor like when it has to accelerate to reach it's rpm etc. etc. goes for the fans and stuff too. surges in the electronics during power up/down are also harmful. google for diagrams on surges during the switching of a ps. some of them spike rather badly before stabilizing their voltages.
  11. um. why 2 routers? mothball the b, install the g and you should be well on your way to good times on the net.
  12. i just think those things look like they got taken off a supermarket checkout or something, which is fine if they build the wal-mart theme bike, but any other chopper should have a nice chain drive, if you're worried the primary can't take it use a double chain. choppers need parts that can throw grease around. as an addition some neat bikes. http://www.dolmette.com/ 24 chainsaw engines combined onto one harley tranny. with belt drives. oh well. but still neat. under the picture and souind there's videos of the thing actually running. http://www.werner-broesel.de/kultliter.html 1440 cc bike. engine is one cylinder taken from an aircooled tractor engine. the 4 valve head is machined from a solid block of aluminum. the fork is wood. the tank is part of the handlbars. the tires are front wheels of a tractor. drum brakes, kawasaki oil pump, shovel with hand forged leafspring as a seat, volvo carb, harley tranny. quite a piece of work. and it only has a kickstart, no pansy assed electric start.
  13. unlikely. just clean the dust and grime off of what you have now, and maybe repoint to get best signal quality. in 3 years wind and the elements can move your dish ever so slightly.
  14. i agree, sounds like the 'toy' laptop is a waste of money. as for the camera, if he is responsible enough why not get him a real cam. much better quality pics, also easy to use. mo3 players are pretty cheap too. (cellphone with integrated mp3, block all but home number on cell so he has emergency phone?). maybe try getting a cheap used laptop?

  16. plus you need 2 nics in one comp to share the connection or you need to run the modem over usb. a router is simpler to set up and config, has some firewall protection, other comp doesn't need to be on, doesn't need 2 nics in one comp, etc, etc, etc.
  17. hey, coknuck, i have a question to you as a bike builder. every time i see those bikes on american chopper (tv) i find it hilarious that they use those 4 to 5 inch primary drive belts iunstead of chains. i think they make a perfectly good bike look like a supermarket checkout conveyor. what's your opinion on that? (using a one inch belt for the final drive i find marginal but acceptable, seeing as it doesn't look too different form a chain drive. but those huge and sometimes even decorated to stand out primary belts, bleah.
  18. or if you've got two comps and want both on tyhe net you will need a router anyhow, and that will also serve as the link between the 2 comps.
  19. read the two links in my sig, post all info asked for.
  20. resistance is futile, you will be assimilated. - 14 of 35
  21. how did you know this was a dell laptop? but it's a dimension, not an infi.
  22. pretty good. them wimminfolk can't figure out nothin technical, least of all high speed connections. now if it was high speed knitting, fine. but here?
  23. he. honestly, it means nothing. it is the name a comic book character gave to an ironically mentioned boogyman type figure, i've only seen it mentioned, ever, in one panel. even googling or yahooing it returns only hits from here. i simply chose it because two other names i tried were taken, and i felt pretty sure this would be free.
