  1. repost this thing and make it a poll, makes it easier to keep a tally. <- dude.
  2. maybe the lag was due to running cs in a window on a dual display setup? if you run it fullscreen it takes over the system a lot more than when it just runs in a window, at which time the windows multitasking routines can take away processing time and resources a lot easier.
  3. hey, let us nonbelievers here take advantage of all the fuss people make about some holiday declared by the church for their own reasons and turn it into a commercial frenzy. do you celebrate halloween? if so, why? to go trick or treating with the kids/give out candy or to honor the pagan origins?
  4. for the java problem, try reinstalling or updating the sun java runtime?
  5. i think it all depends on how close you are to their closest node. the shorter the path the better.
  6. sounds like normal behavior of an ip network to me. performance is by no means constant and a little lag introduced by peak traffic at certain points across the route can cause that choppyness. keep in mind that to produce a hickup in the audio stream only a split second delay is needed in your connection.
  7. then just open it in excel, save as new file w/o read only and there you are.
  8. simply go to the command prompt and attrib away the read only bit?
  9. manufacturer. as in mfr rebate etc. not 1337 afaik, just a normal abbreviation.
  10. and why should they. to my knowledge microsoft never claimed that their website, or other websites that decide to design for the leading browser to cover most bases, is completely compatible with other browsers. if someone decides to bring out a different browser, they need to ensure that their product works on everything, not vice versa. i would like to run my car on rails, but the roads here use the proprietary asphalt technology, so i have to keep my car on tires as it is. i can of course mount rail wheels and set up rails in my back yard and drive it there using that in my eye superior technology all i want, but i can't comlain that it doesn't work anywhere else.
  11. go to the mfr's website and look there, usually most drivers etc can be found there.
  12. [glow=red,2,300]why should microsoft have to change anything? the microsoft update works just fine with ie, everyone that needs the microsoft updates has received a copy of ie. if they want to claim that firefox is so great, why don't they stop bitching about websites being designed for ie and not other browsers and instead go make their browser compatible with the industry standard. just because i like british sports cars and buy a classic with right hand drive doesn't mean that everyone else in the world suddenly has to change the way they build roads so that i don't have a disadvantage from my exotic choice in cars.[/glow]
  13. yeah. where's robin hood when you need him.
  14. wireless will always be slower than wired. you need to adjust some registry settings in win98 to be able to use high speed internet. read the links in my sig, and use a cable connection if possible to make sure you reach your specified speeds before switching to wireless again.
  15. higher dimensional swirly twister is an awesome name! sir, would you be interested in buying stock in a higher dimensional swirly twister?
  16. hm. true. some people are too gullible to be allowed to hold on to their money. but then this pesky conscience (and undoubtedly my better half will too) tells me you can't just go ripping people off because they don't know any better. why the hell not i say, but that's two vs. one.
  17. the thing is that you could probably put together a pack of lies and half truths good enough to fool an investor. if you can come up with something that sounds patentable, then, if you get lucky and the inspector is having a bad day, you might even be able to patent it. armed with that, it should be no trouble at all to fleece a bunch of investors. so, what's the consensus, shall i go into the free energy business? and it wouldn't even be a perpetuum mobile, i would just sell futures on energy to finance the rig to produce it and be able to fulfill the futures. if i can get the paperwork done and run it out of some country where the sec can't get to me...
  18. i have studied the phenomenon and found that by placing a web of magnetic material in orbit i can use this distortion of the space-time continuum to transmit energy into the future. all that needs to be done now is to place a receiver at the exact time and place in the future and voila! free energy.
  19. i looked at the headers of several of the returned mails and found out, which actually jives with what my hoster for the domains/mail addies tells me, that the mails were sent via a third party mail server that was apparently unsecure enough to let someone massmail on it with a fake from. as to malware, that is not the problem, and i still have not checked what the mysterious attachment is. (and honestly, i have no real intention of doing so. why bother dl'ing content that i know is fishy.) if someone else wants to take a poke at it and see what it is out of morbid curiosity, pm me with your e-mail and i'll forward you as many of the bounces with attachments as you want. trust me, i got plenty of em in the webmailer... as for measures i'm taking, well, nothing i can do, somebody used somebody elses mailserver to spam, i got stuck with the bouncebacks. my hoster said that examining the headers can yield info as to who and when from where, but if the guy is spoofing his return address, then i guess his ip will also be covered up or it will be a throwaway stolen account used to do the mailing. no way to protect against that except making sure that any mail server someone may feel inclined to run should be up to date concerning patches and the like. how do i feel about this? it sucks to see not only <quota full> bouncebacks bnut bouncebacks with out of office notices. <yeah, i received your spam and will get to it on the so and so date when i return.> all with MY address. would like to see the damned spammer strung up by his balls is what i'd like to see. pour encourager les autres.
  20. let's hope the antivir compan ies don't put this new variant in their db's. hehe.
  21. limewire, limewire, hm, isn't that p2p stuff? MWUAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
