ouch, Sadly after 2years and with you knowing something about how things work, I would try a new ISP if possible, or if you have the time I would do a face to face with an upper level manager of the company and demand some type of action ....at the very least I would ask for some free service until the problem is resolved. I worked service for thirty years and I believe any problem is fixable......if you can get a person that will admit you have a problem, and Will trouble shoot until its fixed.......one more thing I assume you have tried a single computer directly hooked up at the dmarc from your provider ,and that you have the same problem....correct?? anyway good luck and lets us know how it turns out......one more thing have you also either tried a different known working computer at your house or taken your computer to a new location and not had that problem.... often while testing the problem does clear but it doesn't always mean its the providers equipment thats at fault:) a friend recently found out that his problem was intermittent R.F.I. that was proven by some high dollar machine that I'm not familiar with......... The best browser is the one you like best...... I think you need to try all of them and then decide which you like best. You already said you don't want to go back to IE, but that is the one I use and I think most people also use this one, I haven't found any advantage in using a different browser, for me they all have about the same speed, and I'm so familiar with IE and most of my friends use it that I made a decision a long time ago to stay with IE, until "I" found one that "I" felt was better.......good luck and do lots of testing and you'll find whats best for "you". Swimmer, As you found out support is the biggest issue for all electronic devices....and especially computers,,,,so you met our friend in India...hehe I got pissed one time I couldn't understand what the guy was saying ....and he told me he spoke very good English.....so naturally I had to say .....theres the problem I only speak and understand American....lol ...so when I called back it was alot easier(for me anyway)I know its a pain but out of box failures are not uncommon,the good news is you got it working in not much time(for computers anyway)I hear stories all the time that after many days of screwing around ...it gets packed up and sent back to factory for a longterm visit.....but of course you got a Dell and they come to your house to fix if necessary:):) Microwave

Yeah, I use three or four different ones to remove all the scum ware these idiots try to put on our machines,Spy Sweeper is one that I use,and I run often,also have a firewall and McAfee running all the time.....but I still got nuked around Christmas ....and I wasn't even looking at porn then.....lol....anyway its a lot easier to try and keep them out then get them out after the fact.....what pisses me off the most about these guys is it kills my speed....I might even ignore them if they wouldnt mess with the SPEED....that gets my attention.....lol Microwave

The closer a connection is to the mpop the faster the connection will be.....What this means is you want to be as close as possible to where your connection is terminated by your vendor......the more cable that is involved the more resistance you will encounter......that means slower speeds......but I don't believe your connection is being slowed down by that large of an amount......as you know a DSL has to be within a certain distance of the C.O. in order to work at all.....your only getting less than one third of the speed you pay for......so I think you have more problems than a line cord......if you could hook up another computer to see if you get a better speed ......that would be the easy way to test and get an idea if its your problem or your ISP'S problem:). Well I'll probally get blasted for this but I think Dell makes a decent product.....what I think is best about Dell is if it breaks they fix it....even coming to your house to do so.....for the average user they dont know much about tweaking or any of the stuff most of us get off on....but it works great for most people......thats my two sense......lol Microwave
