start>accessories> command prompt then type in ping testmy.net then hit enter.....type exit then enter use ping -t for continuous ping use control c to quit

Two things ....your paying $60 each x 3 right? ....lets see a ping -t to testmy.net Hughes business plan FAP is at over 1200MB
-
Thats right they can restrict if they choose.....if you didn't buy the router and priced at $60 per card x3, you could have got a business plan with Hughes getting 2MB /500k or a small office plan with 1.5/300. A few post down a user mentioned pings between 220-1400ms(looks like not always better than sat).....thats not comsistent at all? I see unity last download with a small file even shows only 397 (not faster than sat) My mother still has dial up which I use when there at times, not even close to Hughes speed....26.4k (no thanks waiting 4-6hours to update a few programs) This Sprint system is not available where I live, but so far what I have seen compared to what I have, this would not be an upgrade to me. I'm sure your problem with Hughes was the FAP and not knowing what the total MB's the other PC's were eating up. I know very well if DSL came buy here or anybody who has it is far superior to Hughes satellite service. My point here is the speeds in the testmy log/price/contract/higher pings than DSL (the big picture) ....this Sprint plan would not be an "upgrade" for all sat users in my opinion.

Direcway - Hughesnet - Earthlink - whatever... help!
fikester replied to unitychild's topic in Make it Faster...
I have AVG on two PC's and McAfee on another.....do not see any difference in speeds on any of the 3 PC's. If McAfee is so bad and no good...why is it always rated higher than AVG and many others? -
yes....that may be, haven't seen a ping test with that system....gotta be lower than 650-900 I'm sure. The ping difference wouldn't make it any faster for downloading or uploading large files. According to the log on here for unity's test results looks like 800 was the highest with a smaller test ...larger test were looking at around 500? I seldom see below 1000. Trust me I know Hughes doesn't compare to DSL at $30 or less, but for what I have been getting there is no way I would spend several hundred bucks on equipment/phones/modems/cards plus a 2yr contract for 500k or less down......sorry I just don't see the "upgrade" Did you read the fine print on that contract, they can restrict usage and change the terms if they feel the need to? In my opinion its not at all any faster than what I'm getting with Hughes now.
-
Glad you like it, at least unless something changes you wont need to watch usage.....but I don't see where it is any faster.

My uploads are a little slower in the evening....early morning they are most always 190-214.

Not sure about the S model but my best performance is without using the proxy? ....easy enough to try it both ways. I would be very unhappy with those speeds at any rate.
-
That was a good clip.....but I'm sure the same amusement can be found at the local Walmart parking lot. People can not seem to get to where they are going fast enough, even if point B is pulling out in front of another car.....logical thinking is gone?

I call it the greed factor

Yes all 3 computers can be using at once.....my suggestion if you thinking of Linksys is a WRT54G this offers wireless and 4LAN ports for hardwired too. You can set this up right out if the box will work fine.....or config with DHCP off. Its all a matter of what works best for you. Mine is configured as a switch (DHCP off). Performance is the same for me on the hardwired desktop or the laptop on wireless. You will have to buy wireless adapters unless for example your laptop already has one for the wireless connection. The router itself (WRT54G) will run about $50 at Walmart.

Yes...26k dial up here, staying connented was a good day So many think well the dial ups next to nothing in cost so its good enough? 200k up is not a world record but way better than dial up.

This link shows 5 broadband providers for my phone # now thats funny! In reality there is one cable provider for 105/month for basic cable and 128k internet that works about 12 days out of the month....(this guy is not even on the list)...the rest of the IP's listed do not provide service here?

Hughes does not offer a 192 plan If you on a "up to" 200 upload plan of course anything above 130 would be normal. :::.. Hows the peak hour slow downs on 1270 now?......I switched form that transponder about a year ago.
-
Think I will have another and let it snow.
-
I'm surprised that the wind does not seem to cause any signal problems as sensitive the dish is to movement. Even with a very solid pole mount, still plenty of flex allowed? I have seen plenty of high wind gust 60+ and still not out of adjustment.

Hughes.net/Direcway Upload Speeds.
fikester replied to tommie gorman's topic in HughesNet (DIRECWAY)
too bad thats not your upload speed -
These would not be acceptable speeds to me at no given time...I use the older 7000, see very little slow down during peak hours but even so still should be no less than 700/150. Have you removed all previous software that was connected with the DW4000?

Not sure what the fuss is about the itunes?.....if I were that anti something, sure would never purchase that brand product. Just like windows.....so many will run out to buy Vista then bad mouth Microsoft and nothing with windows is any good etc.. ? A large number of those anti itunes, I have reason to believe are just auto anti itunes and never even used it. The songs can be imported into itunes individually or by the folder....as well as shared with media player from the itunes folder. Why worry about buying the biggest fastest PC if you dont dare install a program or two on it. Might as well use an old 5GB hard drive? Solution #1: Make it easy on yourself, don't buy an iPod Solution #2: Macs are readily available for sale, buy one.

The latest version of itunes comes bundled with "apple software update"....which easily updates all apple products. My iPod does not loose the songs when performing the updates. --the songs would be lost if your set up to auto sync when plugging in the iPod and the current songs (already on iPod) have been removed or no longer on your computer. Never seen a software update remove any of my songs.

WB will have the new sat operational at 111 degrees by April '07, looks like improvements may be just ahead

How good is the signal on a clear front ? Mine has to be caked with heavy wet snow to knock it out...cant complain as the cable here is compared to rabbit ears?...and trust me the channels the rabbit ears picks up has the best picture quality! So if it requires a sweeping its not a big deal to me.
