Problems with new install of the 7000 modem
fikester replied to speedmeup2's topic in Show off your speed
Actually thing the upgrade is not so much in the dish, but in the transmitter.....you may not have this same form of LNB I was referring too earlier. If your already on a new contract.....would do the equipment upgrade. -
Yes I have read several complaints on the storm outages....that may very well be different at each site, as well as dish size too. Myself only see an outage with a very severe thunderstorm for a few mins...again my signal is in the 82-85 with a .74m dish. I dialed this dish in myself just as my DTV dish, the installer left with my TV dish at 70...with a little patience I scored a 98, made a big difference in a heavy rain. Same way for the internet dish....if your signal is 55 on a clear blue sky, you will loose service in the 30's, so when in storms the lower signal will have an outage much more often. Some location and sats re-aiming will not improve the signal at all and will need a bigger dish....and maybe a 2watt radio to get the job done. In anycase I cant complain with the outage time....but if I was one who was having to spend more money for a .98m dish and a 2watt transmitter to get on line on a rainy day.....would complain too! Overall the Hughes dish is more sensitive to rain than my DTV is......another thing to keep in mind is weather at the NOC which is located in Germantown, MD will also affect your site performance as well.

Geesh....sounds like the greed factor has kicked in now for WB just like Hughes

I have had Hughes/Dway for a couple of years now....actual down time is very little. The problems most of complain about is lazy installers, slow downs during peak hours, ping times, customer support, and the ignorant price we pay compared to what others are getting for $29.99. It is better than 26k regardless of what your doing on the web. One other thing you may later encounter is FAP bucket.....for some this is a serious issue, others never know it exists. As far as the upgrade you mentioned...Hughes is working on a Ka band system called Spaceway3, scheduled to be released in 2007

Problems with new install of the 7000 modem
fikester replied to speedmeup2's topic in Show off your speed
I had a bad seal on my LNB window, awhile back, signal did not drop that much maybe a few points. After replacing with a new LNB myself the plastic is always moisture free regardless of temp or weather conditions. Many people drill holes or remove the plastic all together from the eye.....myself recommend replacement. Its easy enough to check when having a look at the transmitter grounding, so what would be wrong with looking? My modem is never unplugged other than for the occasional reset. If you want to go with the usual or most likely issue.....the problem is at NOC. If thats the case maybe it will get fixed at some point. and a sig line so readers can see what bird your on and modem being used.... -

First check out the feedhorn area......look for water in the clear plastic lens, while your there look to make sure the transmitter is grounded properly. -

No need to upgrade to 7000s or a pro plus account......just get a DW6000 and tweak it for 1.5Mbps. Look at the great speeds one will get, I have already listed my DW7000 for sale on eBay! I also understand when getting the DW6000 since the older 500/50 plan gets 3x the advertised download speed (tweaks applied of course) I would now get 2.5Mbps down with a new home plan? So actually gorman your DW6000 is getting the same download speed as the ProPlus, or SHO account with the 7000s for $59 a month, while most of those who upgraded to the 7000s are not getting 1.5Mbps down but you do with these tweaks applied using the DW6000 on a home plan.

Yes, I will have to call, but seems as though new sign ons are always getting the better offers while a previous long time customer gets no deals

Heres an article that gives a few pointers about buying a digital camera....and yes I do realize its dated Nov 3, 2006. http://www.pcworld.com/article/125645-1/article.html

More mp may be better in some cases, but do not be fooled by thinking that is the only feature to choose the camera by. Optical zoom, expandable memory , ISO, size and many other features make the camera as well. For personal use, my Sony P-51 which is a 2Mp. is still doing the job some 5 years later....as someone mentioned the 2Mp as a rule will not allow much over a 5x7. I did this year buy the wife a Sony T-50, which is a 7Mp......its still under the tree.

I'm not sure if I did or didn't call it a burst, but do realize the first test is not correct. So really there is no sense in posting that incorrect score, especially when its known that first score is false. To my knowledge the pro plus, business accounts, or SHO plans are the only packages advertised to see 1500 I do realize the speeds change constantly, but also know that the NOC and the sat modem keep a reign on the system. This being why I don't get 5Mbs/2Mbs connection, the system is capable of much higher speeds than we actually do get. Lastly, some people on here tend to attack posts like wild animals...I recall posting some info on Spaceway3, "oh no rubbish that project has been trashed bla bla"...yeah it was pushed back, but is still being prepared to launch 2007. I stumbled onto this site looking for a speed test, and ended up joining a few years back..... myself not looking for an on-line brawl. -

I don't think there is a 500/50 plan, the home accounts are 700/128...but anyway do 3 speed test one immediately after another, this will show your true speeds....and also match very closely what your transfer speed is when downloading a file...? This is Hughes we are dealing with...there are many who are running the new modem and paying for 1500 down, and not getting it. Do you honestly think a home account is getting 1500 -- post what you want, but this is not helping others just getting the system thinking these different tweaks will get you 1500 or more down with the home account. The member stats area show the other scores. Take a look....almost postive my speed is not 1248, but pretty sure it is around 1080 :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::.. Yes...your DW6000 home account does do well during off peak hours, but dips to 200 during daytime hours. Thats great if your using at 2am to get the max speed of 1000 or so. -

Show me a screen shot of a decent size file download when the download is almost complete.....your saying it should be around 180kB/s on the transfer speed? Why is it when you run another test immediately after the 1.5 connection the rest of the test will show around 1000 connection speed? in fact run 3 test one right after the other.......without rebooting, clearing the cache etc. The test will show again around 1000. Myself don't care what you post or think your speeds are, but feel bad for a new Hughes customer thinking a home plan should be getting 1500 or better download speeds, when its simply not so. My first speed test normally shows around 1200-1300 also....the following test will match a transfer speed I get on a actual file download, around 1000 or maybe 132/kBs None of the Hughes modems 6000 and above will get the 1500 on a home plan....sorry -
